Crystal Palace linked to Sven Botman

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Lille defender Sven Botman as new manager Patrick Vieira begins to make his mark on the club.

What’s the story?

According to Sky Sports News, the Eagles are one of many sides interested in acquiring the 21-year-old’s signature this summer, with Atalanta currently believed to be in pole position to get him.

The report states that La Dea want Botman to replace Tottenham Hotspur-bound Cristian Romero and that he would be keen to speak to the Serie A outfit.

However, despite the promise of Champions League football at the Gewiss Stadium, the Dutchman is open to a move to the Premier League. West Ham United are believed to be the keenest on the 6 ft 3 beast, but Palace, Newcastle United and Norwich City are also credited with an interest.

Fans will be buzzing

Botman came up through the ranks with Eredivisie giants Ajax, but never made an appearance for his boyhood club, joining Lille 12 months ago following a successful loan spell with Heerenveen.

And the gamble paid off for ex-boss Christophe Galtier as the youngster played a pivotal part in the club’s remarkable title-winning campaign.

In 37 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille, Botman averaged 1.5 interceptions, 3.2 clearances and 0.6 blocks, placing him in the top three amongst his teammates for each metric, as per WhoScored.

His eye-catching displays attracted the attention of several clubs across the continent, but the top teams in England reportedly remain unconvinced that he’s ready for the elite level after just one full season of regular top-flight football.

After starring for the Netherlands’ U21s at the European Championships last month, Sky Sports claim Lille have placed a £27 million price tag on their prized asset and would be willing to sell this summer.

It’s believed that Les Dogues want to keep hold of Botman if possible, but their finances have been seriously impacted by the ongoing pandemic and the collapse of the television deal for french football.

Although Palace have already seriously strengthened at centre-half, Botman would provide Vieira with a natural left-footed option at the heart of defence, which is a real commodity in the modern game.

While adding a striker, right-winger and central midfielder may take priority over a third central defender for the capital club, the opportunity to acquire a player of Botman’s quality and potential is not something to pass up.

Palace fans will rightly be excited for their club to be linked with such a quality young player and they will be hoping that the talented defender makes his way to Selhurst Park this summer.

Sky Sports News report that, should a team come in with an offer of around £27m, Lille could give it genuine consideration. Palace should make that offer now, and look to beat the other interested clubs to Botman’s signature.

Chukwuemeka can be Rangers’ Defoe heir

Rangers have been linked with a move for Caleb Chukwuemeka recently and the 19-year-old could be the man to replace Jermain Defoe in Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, Rangers are interested in signing the Northampton Town striker, although it is Aston Villa who have made the first official move to sign him, as they saw an offer rebuffed by the League Two side recently.

The Villans arguably hold an advantage over Rangers in the race to sign him, as his younger brother Carney plays for their academy, but Gerrard will be hoping that he can be tempted into a move to Ibrox.

Despite featuring 28 times for the Cobblers’ senior side, Chukwuemeka is yet to sign a professional deal with the club and will reportedly become a free agent in January, which suggests that he could be a very cheap option for the Gers this summer.

Jermain Defoe’s heir?

Defoe recently signed a new one-year contract at Rangers but will take on some coaching work as his influence in the first-team dwindles, and Chukwuemeka could be the man to step up as his replacement when he does eventually retire from professional football.

The 38-year-old has scored 32 goals in his 72 appearances for Rangers thus far and is always likely to pop up with a goal when he does play due to the incredible goalscoring instincts that he possesses.

It bodes well for the future that he will be coaching some of Rangers’ brightest prospects and if Chukwuemeka were to arrive at Ibrox, Defoe would no doubt be in regular conversation with him on how he can improve his game.

The teenage forward has scored twice in his senior career thus far but is highly regarded at the League Two club, with former manager Keith Curle singing his praises last season, saying:

“Caleb has got an unpredictability about him and he can be unorthodox at times. What we’re trying to do is get the fundamentals in place in his play without taking away that excitement and that freedom in his play.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776″]

If Chukwuemeka does arrive at Ibrox and starts to score consistently, there’s no reason why he can’t be the long-term replacement for Defoe at Rangers, so Ross Wilson should definitely be looking to bring him in.

Everton make Harry Winks enquiry

Rafa Benitez has acted methodically and shrewdly in the transfer market to date, completing deals at a cut price, rather than splashing the cash wildly at Everton. As a consequence, he’s turning himself to another move which could be done relatively cheaply this summer. What’s the word?Everton have already signed Andros Townsend, Asmir Begovic and Demarai Gray but there is still plenty of business left to do.The Toffees are now attempting to bolster their options in the middle of the park with interest in Harry Winks being revealed. Fabrizio Romano revealed on his Twitch stream on Thursday evening that a move is a possibility. That came at a similar time to the Beautiful Game podcast claiming on Twitter that: “Everton have submitted an enquiry for Spurs midfielder Harry Winks. Spurs have told the player that he can leave the club this summer. THFC looking for a fee of around 25mill.”Stay awayEverton already have a number of midfielders at their disposal with Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan, Andre Gomes and Tom Davies all in their ranks. That’s without reckoning on Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who is finally returning from injury. With that in mind, one has to question whether Winks would actually be worth the price tag.[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-everton-news-benitez-kamara-romero-dumfries” title= “Read the latest Everton transfer news!”]After all, many supporters have already been left angered by the performances of Tom Davies, who was relatively under par last term. He failed to score all season and only provided one assist during an inconsistent campaign for the 23-year-old.His defensive play also failed to set the world alight, registering 1.2 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game. Those numbers aren’t bad by any stretch of the imagination but his force and aggression has nothing on a player like Doucoure, for instance.Winks is a similar player, so spending £25m on him would fail to make much sense. The England international was impressive a few years ago, being described as a player who “dominates the game” by Paul Robinson. However, since becoming a regular in the England setup, he has slipped out of the team and failed to impress at Spurs. Winks didn’t contribute to a single goal last term and, like Davies, was mediocre from a defensive point of view.He completed 1.1 tackles and just 0.7 interceptions per game, while providing 0.3 key passes. On that evidence, it’s difficult to work out what he’d bring to the table at Goodison Park.Consequently, fans would surely be perplexed if Benitez completed this deal. It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest they may be rather livid, too.The Everton hierarchy surely have better ways of spending that sum of money than on another midfield player.AND in other news, Rafa can set Everton on fire by signing “exciting” 17-goal gem who’s “destroyed” teams…

Fry drops big Declan Rice claim amid Chelsea, Man Utd interest

Barry Fry insists West Ham United will not let Declan Rice go for any price this summer.

The midfielder is currently away on international duty with England at Euro 2020.

But he has been heavily linked with a potential exit from the club this summer, amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

Fry believes that Rice would get a significant pay rise if he did decide to leave the London Stadium.

But the Peterborough United Director of Football, who knows the Hammers well, cannot see any scenario in which the Irons allow Rice to leave.

Indeed, he has been an integral member of the club’s squad this season and has repeatedly captained them in the absence of Mark Noble.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Fry said: “He’d get miles more money at Chelsea, we all know that, or Man United or Man City, whoever went in for him, but I can’t see West Ham letting him go at any money.

“The owners and Moyesie are very ambitious, they want to make West Ham the leading London club. They nearly did this year by the way.

“He’ll want to go one better and the worst thing you can do is get rid of Declan Rice, no matter how much money you get. It won’t appease the West Ham fans.”

Rice made a total of 32 appearances in the Premier League last term and will be a key member of England’s squad at the European Championships this summer.

Bye-bye Moura: Spurs eye Bundesliga star

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered talks to sign Marcus Thuram…

What’s the word?

According to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, the 23-year-old is set to leave Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and discussions with the Premier League outfit have advanced in recent days.

He tweeted:

“Marcus Thuram will leave Borussia Monchengladbach this summer. The player is in talks with Tottenham. It is a priority of the club. Sources close to the English club explain that the discussions have advanced in recent days.”

It remains to be seen how much the Bundesliga side will command for their first-choice winger but Transfermarkt currently values him at around £31.5m.

Bye-bye Moura

With the future of Lucas Moura up in the air, the North Londoners could already be preparing for life after the Brazilian, who would leave renowned for his come-from-behind hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League final.

As per Goal.com, the 28-year-old has been subject to interest from Saudi Arabia, with rivals Al Hilal and Al Nassr thought to be considering a move for him in the transfer window.

If the new director of football, Fabio Paratici, wants to find an instant replacement, then perhaps he’ll find it in the Gladbach sensation.

The three-cap France international has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign at Borussia-Park, where he has delivered 11 goals and 12 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions, via Transfermarkt.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-manager-gossip-transfer-rumours-team-and-injury-updates-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, manager gossip, transfer rumours, team and injury updates and more!”]

That included a brace against Real Madrid, whilst he has also found the net against big league rivals RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

Thuram is described as a sharpshooter by the official Bundesliga website and they also liken him to Manchester United’s fellow Frenchman, Anthony Martial.

At 6 foot 4, he’s certainly bigger in stature and is a tad bit more stockier than the Premier League marksman but his quick, direct and strong capabilities have made him a left-winger to be feared.

“I believe that Marcus is far from the end of his development. There’s a lot more to come from him,” claimed his former boss Marco Rose. “Marcus is a footballer who benefits greatly from his physique and stature. He’s also a fine technician, who can always deal with situations in tight spaces.”

Thuram has also been described as “fast, robust and dangerous” by sporting director Max Eberl and lauded as someone who is going to have a “great future” by former coach Jean-Louis Gasset.

Paratici must look to make the towering speed demon one of his first signings at the club. He’d be a perfect replacement for Moura, even based on his goal record alone but it’s evident that he’d offer the Premier League side so much more.

West Brom: Fans flock to David Wagner update

West Bromwich Albion are set to look elsewhere in their managerial search, after talks with former Schalke boss David Wagner collapsed [Sky Sports].
