A battling tail-end partnership extended Sri Lanka A’s lead to 90 in the morning, but a 98-run opening stand and a composed half-century from England Lions opener Joe Root put the hosts 92 runs ahead at stumps on the third day in Scarborough. The Lions lost three wickets before the close – including a skittish Ravi Bopara for a 21-ball 25 – but reached a position of reasonable safety at 182 for 3.Lions seamers Stuart Meaker, James Harris and Jade Dernbach eventually finished with three wickets apiece as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 389, but not before a stubborn 61-run partnership between Nos. 9 and 10, Sachithra Senanayake and Kanishka Alvitigala, had extended the Sri Lankans’ first-innings advantage after they had started the day on 329 for 8.Root and fellow opener Alex Hales lead a spirited response from the Lions, both men pinging the boundary repeatedly and Hales eventually falling for a 69-ball 42 that included five fours and a six. He fell to offspinner Senanayake, who helped himself to five wickets in the Lions’ first innings and ended day three with two more, Bopara his second scalp. In the meantime Root had brought up a 95-ball fifty, but immediately after Bopara, who had rushed out of the blocks and cracked five fours in his short innings, was dismissed, Root was undone by offspinner Sachithra Serasinghe and Sri Lanka A had found an entry into the middle order with the score at 143 for 3.Lions captain James Taylor and wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter held firm until the close, however, adding an unbroken 39 before stumps.”I’m pleased with the way I played today, overall I think its been a good day for us,” said Root. “I was disappointed with how I got out but we need to come back tomorrow and play confidently from the start and with our bowling attack we’re still looking to get a result.”

O atacante voltou a balançar a rede adversária e ganhou elogios do treinador.

“O André é artilheiro, bota a bola para dentro mesmo. Fez um gol novamente. Acho que isso é uma ajuda mútua”, completou.

Kanitkar, Bist build platform for Rajasthan

Rajasthan built a solid platform with bat on the first day of the Ranji Trophy final, albeit at a snail’s pace

Baroda did what Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu had done against Rajasthan, opting to bowl, and just like in those two matches, the visitors built a solid platform on the first day of the Ranji Trophy final, albeit at a snail’s pace. On a dry and flat wicket that, contrary to expectations, played low and slow, Rajasthan set themselves up for a big score on the second day, though captain Hrishikesh Kanitkar’s late dismissal evened things out a bit.Kanitkar and Robin Bist led a calculated batting effort, in which each of the four specialist batsman played more than 100 deliveries. The Rajasthan batsmen blunted the inexperienced Baroda attack and inched along at around two runs per over for the first two sessions. Playing themselves in was the target, and Rajasthan’s intent to bat big was evident from the fact that only one boundary came in the first 20 overs. But Baroda did not possess the venom to prise out the watchful openers on the flat deck. The wind that was expected to aid movement did not arrive, the bald wicket offered no help either, and left-arm seamer Sankalp Vohra’s first delivery died down on its way to wicketkeeper Pinal Shah. Pinal ultimately stood up to two of the three Baroda seamers, Vohra and debutant Abhijit Karambelkar. Only Murtuja Vahora managed to get decent carry, running in hard whenever he was given the ball. It was too much to expect 20-year-old left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt to take the wickets on a first-day track that did not take much turn, though he toiled for 23 overs. The openers fell against the run of play after having played themselves in. Aakash Chopra and Vineet Saxena had looked in no trouble from the outset, looking to leave as many deliveries as possible outside the off stump, and defending when they had to. Chopra, in fact, did not hit a boundary till his 64th delivery. He fell trying to sweep a delivery from Bhatt that was a touch full for the shot, and Saxena was run out freakishly, having walked out of the crease to do some gardening while the ball was adjudged to be still in play.Coming together at 73 for 2, Kanitkar and Bist consolidated, adding 117 in a partnership that had begun to assume threatening proportions when Kanitkar fell four overs before stumps, looking for a scoring opportunity and guiding an Aditya Waghmode delivery to a diving Connor Williams at slip.Kanitkar was the most positive of the batsmen, driving and cutting cleanly whenever he got a loose delivery, and offering a dead bat to the others. Bist was extremely cautious to begin with, remaining on 7 for 26 deliveries before he gave Waghmode a sudden charge and lifted him over midwicket for his first boundary. Both batsmen looked to step out against the spinners, especially after tea, as the ball was not coming on to the bat.Despite Kanitkar’s fall, Bist was in complete control at the other end, and his wicket will be key. If Baroda find a way to bundle Rajasthan out quickly and take strike early on Wednesday, they could make the visitors pay for their slow approach.

– Houve uma preservação do time titular.

West Ham must replace Rice with Kamara

West Ham United are set to face a hotly contested battle in their bid to bring Boubacar Kamara to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Mike McGrath’s recent report for The Telegraph, in which the journalist claimed that, with the Olympique de Marseille defensive midfielder’s contract set to expire this summer, the likes of Atletico Madrid, Leeds United and Manchester United are all contenders for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Previous reports had claimed that West Ham were also looking to secure a deal to sign the France U21 international in the January transfer window, with this interest expected to be continued in the summer.

Dream Rice replacement

While it is a situation that many West Ham fans would prefer to ignore, unfortunately for the London Stadium faithful, the rumours linking the club’s talismanic midfielder Declan Rice with a £120m move away from East London this summer are far from dying down.

However, while it would undoubtedly be a gutting blow to lose the “invaluable” – in the words of Teddy Sheringham – £75m-rated England international ahead of a season in which the Hammers could well be playing Champions League football, the addition of Kamara would certainly be one way to soften the loss of Rice.

Indeed, the £22.5m-rated prodigy has been imperious in marshalling the Marseille midfield since breaking into the 6.93 in 2017/18, 6.89 in 2018/19, 7.00 in 2019/20 and 7.03 in 2020/21.

The £46k-per-week midfielder has once again been in breathtaking form over his 21 Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring one goal and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.9 key passes, 1.2 interceptions, 1.7 tackles, one clearance, completing 57 passes and winning 4.2 duels per game.

These returns have seen the 22-year-old who Jacek Kulig dubbed “one of the most exciting talents” and “Marseille’s biggest jewel” average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.05, ranking him as Jorge Sampaoli’s sixth-best player in the top flight of French football.

Furthermore, Boubacar’s current and former teammates also clearly believe that the defensive midfielder is destined for the very top of the professional game, with Rolando previously stating of the youngster:

“This kid is a phenomenon. When he started training with us, he was 15 years old. And from day one, I said no. But this little one is going to be a great player. He is full of quality and, above all, he works, he listens. It is out of the ordinary.”

As such, while the loss of Rice would certainly come as a major blow to David Moyes and his side, should the 58-year-old go on to seal the signing of Karama this summer, the French sensation would very much appear to be something of a dream replacement for the Englishman – especially on a free transfer.

Crystal Palace: Journalist thinks Butland will start over Guaita at Wembley

Journalist Rahman Osman believes Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira could drop Vicente Guaita to stick with Jack Butland against Chelsea this weekend.

The Lowdown: Palace’s run to the semi-final

Palace have enjoyed a solid and sometimes exciting first season under Vieira and are now preparing for a Wembley showdown with their London rivals.

The Eagles have defeated Millwall, Hartlepool United, Stoke City and Everton on their way to the last four, conceding just twice.

Butland has played every minute of domestic cup action this season, with Guaita first choice in the league, and Osman thinks the Spaniard, who Roy Hodgson labelled as ‘excellent’, will be dropped following the 2-1 loss to Leicester last time out.

The Latest: Guaita to be axed?

Osman shared a story on London World on Wednesday, looking at three Palace stars Vieira may leave out this weekend.

One of those was Guaita, with the reporter believing Vieira will ‘break the heart’ of the 35-year-old by sticking with Butland at Wembley.

The Verdict: Right decision?

Some managers decide to bring back their first choice ‘keeper in the latter stages of cup competitions, but it only seems fair for Vieira to leave Guaita out and stick with Butland – just look at how Caoimhin Kelleher rewarded Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final this year.

Butland made a big blunder against Millwall in the third round but hasn’t been troubled much in the FA Cup since then, though he could be a much busier man on Sunday.

We will soon find out what Vieira decides in regards to selection, however, bigger calls may have to be made outfield, especially with injury concerns to Tyrick Mitchell and Michael Olise.

Bid made: Spurs eye attacking sensation

Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a bid for Luis Diaz as they look to bolster Antonio Conte’s attack this January transfer window…

What’s the word?

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the north Londoners offered around €40m (£34m) for the FC Porto winger but it’s not going to be enough to tempt them into a sale this month.

The 25-year-old is keen on playing in the Premier League and talks remain ongoing ahead of a potential deal before Monday evening’s deadline.

“Luís Diaz deal. Player and agent side there’s no problem despite rumours, he dreams of PL – Tottenham know that personal terms won’t be an issue.

“€35/40m opening bid is not enough to convince Porto. Talks still on while deal is considered not easy between clubs,” he tweeted.

Added firepower

Conte is desperate to see new additions to his squad this week and Diaz would be quite the coup indeed.

Although the Colombian winger is not in one of his three priority positions – right wing-back, centre-back and striker – he would still be a fine and much-needed acquisition.

Spurs have struggled in attack this season and that’s largely due to the form of Harry Kane, having scored just five goals in 19 league appearances. If he’s out of form, then there is little hope in the final third as he’s their only senior striker.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-thfc-spurs-transfer-rumours-gossip-conte-paratici-levy-updates” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Not to mention Heung-min Son’s continued absence through injury.

Last season, the Lilywhites were able to call upon Gareth Bale as a third-string to their attacking bow and whilst he didn’t feature as much as he probably would have liked during that loan spell from Real Madrid, he was still a major influence in the penalty box.

Indeed, the Welsh favourite still hit double figures across all competitions – as per Transfermarkt, Bale scored 16 goals and laid on three assists across 34 appearances, in which only 19 were starts.

He averaged a direct contribution every 87.7 minutes – one goal or assist every game.

Spurs never replaced him during the summer and they are now paying the price for that.

In Diaz, sporting director Fabio Paratici can add another source of firepower to Conte’s attack.

The 31-cap sensation has delivered 16 goals and six assists in only 28 appearances for the Portuguese giants so far this season, and that includes impressive outings in the Champions League, too.

Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 5 foot 10 dynamo has been dubbed a “livewire” in the final third as well as being “phenomenal” by Portuguese football expert Alex Goncalves.

The fact that Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United have also been mooted with interest only further highlights the talent that Diaz has on offer and it means Spurs must make sure they are leading the race to sign him come Monday evening.

Diaz could be a frightening prospect alongside Kane and Son in attack for Conte, so Paratici and co must do everything to pull this one over the line.
