Predicted Man City XI vs Spurs

Manchester City will be hoping to make it 16 wins in a row when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad in Saturday’s late kick-off.

Pep Guardiola’s side are comfortable at the top of the Premier League after a superb run of recent form, but have struggled against Spurs in recent seasons, and suffered a defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this campaign.

The Spanish manager made plenty of changes for the game against Swansea in midweek and it seems likely that he will go back to full strength as he prepares to face his old rival Jose Mourinho.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects City to line up against Spurs on Saturday, with seven changes from the team that started against Swansea…

Ederson returns in goal, and the Brazilian could even end up on penalty duties for City should they be awarded a spot-kick against Spurs after Ilkay Gundogan’s miss against Liverpool recently.

There are four changes to the defence as Ruben Dias and John Stones resume their partnership at centre-back, replacing Eric Garcia and Aymeric Laporte.

Joao Cancelo comes in for Kyle Walker after being rested at Swansea, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko replaces Benjamin Mendy at left-back.

Phil Foden returns in midfield in place of Ferran Torres, although he will likely interchange with Bernardo Silva on the wing throughout the match, who keeps his place in the side.

Finally, Riyad Mahrez replaces Gabriel Jesus, with Raheem Sterling moving up front, with Guardiola having enjoyed a lot of success with a strikerless system in recent weeks.

Leeds: Victor Orta must prioritise a move for Celtic’s Ryan Christie this January

As the January transfer window draws near, Leeds United could be forced to scour the market for even more new signings. Despite their fruitful summer haul, Marcelo Bielsa currently finds himself with just one fit senior centre-back ahead of their clash with Burnley at the weekend.

His defence is undoubtedly where the Argentinian must focus his attention, but his attacking options could also do with some love. At the moment, Leeds’ only major source of goals is Patrick Bamford, which isn’t good enough for a side looking to survive in the Premier League.

Despite all their options out wide, the Whites are struggling to leave their mark when it comes to getting forward. However, there is a man that Leeds have been linked with who could help solve these worries.

Leeds interested in Ryan Christie

According to 90min, Ryan Christie has attracted a lot of attention from the Premier League. Both Leeds and Leicester are reported to be considering tabling an offer for the Scot’s services. Should the right one come Celtic’s way, Peter Lawwell might be forced into selling up, especially following the Glasgow outfit’s inconsistent form this season and the financial impact of their European exit.

Christie has contributed four goals and ten assists to his side’s campaign so far, along with his iconic performance for Scotland in their Euro qualifying win over Serbia last month. His influence on his country, along with his versatility to play in both midfield and on the wing, have seemingly made him a very hot target ahead of the January window.

Indeed, he recently received top praise from Chris Sutton, who lauded the £8,000 per week gem as a “manager’s dream”.

Christie would be a great addition to this Leeds side if Celtic are willing to let him go and Victor Orta must make him a priority for the club’s winter shopping. The 25-year-old’s attacking influence would be ideal in support of Bamford, who is extremely overworked in Bielsa’s front-line.

In other news, Orta must move for “real talent” Michael Olise to replace Forshaw…

Rangers should unleash Itten vs Ross County

Not that you’d know it, but Glasgow Rangers may have a few problems at the club right now.

Firstly, Alfredo Morelos’ form is patchy at best and they’re badly missing Kemar Roofe, who hasn’t featured for Steven Gerrard’s side since he suffered an injury in the Old Firm clash with Celtic at the start of the month.

Second of all, they missed a genuine opportunity to extend their 21-point lead over Celtic after they were forced to settle for a draw against Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.

Alfredo Morelos arguably produced one of his worst performances at Fir Park after the Colombia centre-forward looked increasingly out of sorts as he struggled to cope with the intensity and pace of the game, having completed just 18 passes, which was the third-lowest out of every Rangers player who started the game.

Given the fact he has failed to score since the 2-1 win at Aberdeen, you could certainly make the case for him to be dropped from the starting line-up. With that in mind, we reckon Cedric Itten could be the man to come in and make an impact in the middle of the park against Ross County.

Apart from Borna Barisic, Itten ultimately proved to be the only real saving grace for Gerrard. The Switzerland international came off the bench to rescue a point for the Scottish Premiership leaders and spare Gerrard’s blushes in the process.

He just loves a goal against Graham Alexander’s side, doesn’t he? Itten met a cross from Barisic with a well-timed header to score against Well for the fourth time this season.

It’s the kind of performance Rangers fans have come to expect from the 24-year-old, however, as his powerful header prevented his side from suffering their first defeat in the Premiership this season, with the visitors maintaining their standing at the top of the table.

Unlike Morelos, it’s fair to say that Itten is a player who has already started to exercise a tremendous amount of patience and control during his short stint with the 54-time Scottish champions.

Standing at 6 ft 2 in tall, he may not look like the typical ‘super-sub’ – if there is such a thing – but his record speaks for itself. 4 goals and an assist in 17 substitute appearances is a pretty decent return, considering he has only played 728′ minutes of football this season, via Transfermarkt.

However, since he signed on the dotted line last year, he has started just twice in the SPFL, which is rather surprising for a player of his obvious potential.

Gerrard has been using him off the bench effectively since the start of the season but perhaps he should take the opportunity to rest key players like Morelos, Connor Goldson and James Tavernier at home to the tenth-placed Staggies.

Last season, Itten scored 20 clubs goals in 36 appearances for St Gallen in Switzerland, which should give you an idea of the cutting edge he could give the Gers if he starts the game against the Staggies.

At the moment, you could argue that he is being wasted, especially when you consider the fact that Gerrard clearly rates him so highly. After the 3-1 comeback victory over Well last year, Gerrard said: “I thought Ceddy was outstanding, Ianis [Hagi] and Joe Aribo [too]. I’m really pleased with the character we’ve shown over the course of the 90 minutes.

“Ceddy does what he does. He’s a bit of a pest, he’s a bit of a nuisance, he chases lost causes.

“It was a fantastic header at the back post to put us in front and a lot of people would give up then and think the game is won but Ceddy keeps going and I’m sure the fans will really appreciate the effort he gave today.”

He needs to given a lot more game time by the manager and should be unleashed against Ross County at Ibrox on Saturday.

Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff has to step his game up

After making his breakthrough in the 2018/2019 season when he made his full Premier League debut against Chelsea, Sean Longstaff hasn’t kicked on some would have hoped at Newcastle.

It even led to then Magpies boss Rafa Benitez saying he deserved a call-up to the England boss, insisting: “Sean wouldn’t look out of place with England, there are not too many young English players with his quality. I think he will go, he’s doing well and playing in the Premier League. I like to see my players going to the national team.”

But fast forward more than a year, and Longstaff has yet to move forward, with this season seeing him play just 13 minutes of football in the Premier League – two games even saw him fail to make the match-day squad.

After handing him a rare start against Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup back in September, Steve Bruce admitted that Longstaff has got a lot of work to do to get back to his best.

He said: “Sean is in the last two years of his contract – we all know what capabilities he’s got he’s got to show it more often and more regularly. He’s got a lot of work to do, but he’s got healthy competition around him and as I said, he was another one who needed a game tonight and I think that showed.”

Bruce also added that he thinks the 22-year-old’s long-term future could be in the number ten role, and that’s something that tallies well with what former Scotland international, Kris Boyd, has said.

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

He declared: “Sean Longstaff is a throwback. He is willing to take risks. He is a midfielder who is willing to take a shot, willing to try that forward pass. He might lose it five times out of six but he is prepared to do that because he knows that the sixth time it might lead to the goal that wins the game. He is always on the front foot and that’s what I like about him.”

With Jonjo Shelvey out injured, Newcastle need one of their brightest prospects to really step up to the mark. If he can get back to his best, then he could be the kind of game-changer that adds something different to the Magpies midfield.

Romaine Sawyers has given Slaven Bilic a big West Brom selection headache

West Brom finally picked up their first win of the Premier League season on Saturday night as they defeated rock-bottom Sheffield United at the Hawthorns.

On-loan midfielder Conor Gallagher will take most of the plaudits as his 13th-minute strike from range was enough to separate the two teams in what was a thrilling encounter.

The Baggies won for the first time since their promotion from the Championship without one of their key men, captain Jake Livermore.

Albion’s skipper has missed the last two outings as he steps up his recovery from contracting coronavirus during the international break. Slaven Bilic revealed in the week that both the 31-year-old and Kieran Gibbs had since tested negative, but this game was all too soon for either to feature.

And Livermore ought to be worried about his place amongst the starting XI when he does indeed return to action as another man has been stepping up immensely during his absence.

Even more so when you realise the West Brom veteran hasn’t finished the full 90 minutes in any of his last three appearances for the club.

Romaine Sawyers has come in and stepped up to the plate, culminating in his best performance of the season against the Blades this weekend.

The 29-year-old, who came through the academy set-up at the club, was industrious on Saturday, recording two tackles, two interceptions and one dribble. He also won four duels and made 49 passes at an accuracy rate of 89%, via SofaScore.

After the match, BirminghamLive reporter Joseph Chapman waxed lyrical about Sawyers, he said: “This was comfortably Romaine Sawyers’ best display in the top flight. He moved the ball quickly, matched Sheffield United midfielders in the physical battle and his passing accuracy was back to the levels we expect from him.”

His former academy coach, Jimmy Shan, once claimed the midfielder was an “unbelievable technician” and a “huge talent” who “had this ability to pop up between the lines and to create.”

At times last season, we witnessed exactly this but for large spells since their top-flight return, Sawyers has been the back-up.

It’s time to keep him in the squad, even if it’s at Livermore’s expense. You should never change a winning team and Sawyers played an underrated part in that win on Saturday.

Veja as revelações do Campeonato Brasileiro 2015

Portsmouth: Mason Jones-Thomas features against AFC Totton

Former Swansea City winger Mason Jones-Thomas featured for Portsmouth against AFC Totton on Tuesday evening ahead of a potential move to the club.

With the new 2020/2021 season fast approaching, Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is under a wealth of pressure to improve his squad after failing to gain promotion from League One to the Championship for a second successive season.

Just one summer recruit has so far arrived with Sean Raggett agreeing a move following his exit from Championship side Norwich City.

With pre-season fixtures coming thick and fast, Portsmouth faced AFC Totton on Tuesday and the inclusion of a former Swansea City player has now seen a transfer link develop.

Portsmouth were held by the non-league side and Jones-Thomas featured in a right-wing role for the Blues, playing a total of 55 minutes.

The 19-year-old won Pompey’s second penalty at the Snows Stadium, which was converted by Alfie Stanley.

Jones-Thomas is now available on a free transfer after leaving Swansea’s under-23 setup and the report of his inclusion in Portsmouth’s side has been followed by a claim that he would link up with Pompey’s second string if he arrived at Fratton Park.

As mentioned in the report, if the 19-year-old does arrive at Portsmouth then he will initially go into the youth team at Fratton Park.

Indeed, the club are already well stocked in the right-midfield/right-wing position with Ryan Williams, Gareth Evans and Marcus Harness all available to Jackett.

Given he is available on a free though, he may be worth offering a contract to so that the club can take a closer look at him over the course of the campaign.

Do you think Jones-Thomas would be a good addition to the club? Let us know in the comments section below…
