Leeds: Radrizzani given reprieve amid likely Laurens De Bock exit

Andrea Radrizzani has been handed a huge financial boost knowing that the long-suffering dilemma of Laurens De Bock could finally be coming to an end…

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the defender’s loan club Zulte Waregem are expected to make his move back to his native country permanent next year.

The 28-year-old joined the Jupiler Pro League side in the summer and will remain there until the end of the season, but the club are reportedly keen on keeping hold of him for good.

Relief for Radrizzani

Leeds have made some smart signings over the years, but they have also had their fair share of flops too. De Bock is definitely up there as one of their more questionable business deals.

The Whites brought the left-back to Elland Road in 2018 and paid a little more than £1million for his services. But since his arrival, he has spent more time at other clubs than he has at Leeds.

In two years, De Bock has left the Yorkshire outfit on four occasions to pursue temporary moves whilst being out of favour at his parent club.

The Belgian has played a total of just seven games in white – his last appearance came in October two years ago in the Championship, before he was axed and passed from loan club, to loan club, via Transfermarkt.

The Marcelo Bielsa reject is on a contract worth a reported £15,000 per week. This is more than the likes of Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich are currently earning, despite not playing a single match for Leeds in more than two years.

Radrizzani clearly made a huge error in working with former manager Thomas Christiansen to bring De Bock to Elland Road. The Italian will be glad to see the back of him next summer and finally stop his wages rinsing the club’s money pot.

Sheffield Wednesday: Tony Pulis must make U-turn on Tom Lees contract offer

Sheffield Wednesday boss Tony Pulis has offered new deals to three of their out-of-contract stars this week, though after the performance in midweek, he ought to consider making a U-turn on one player…

What’s the word?

According to the 62-year-old (via The Yorkshire Post), current skipper Barry Bannan, ex-captain Tom Lees and long-serving utility man Adam Reach have all been offered extensions to their current deals.

He said:

“Barry, Leesy and Reachy have all been offered new contracts. That’s something that the chairman is dealing with.”

The Owls suffered a fourth successive defeat on Tuesday night, losing 2-0 at Nottingham Forest, and are yet to win since Pulis took over from Garry Monk.

Lees was particularly shocking at the City Ground.

U-turn needed

Things haven’t gone to plan for the 30-year-old centre-back in recent times. He was stripped of the captaincy by Monk in the summer and found himself heavily out-of-favour – for good reason too.

Given he’s among the highest earners at Hillsborough – he’s thought to earn around £27.5k-per-week – his performances have just not reflected that.

Lees is averaging fewer tackles (one per game) and more fouls (1.3 per game) from last season and on Tuesday night, the former Leeds United man hardly covered himself in glory.

It was his mistake which allowed Forest to punish Pulis to yet another loss.

SofaScore graded the £2.25m-rated defender as Wednesday’s worst player with a 6.1 rating – he also committed one foul and one error, was dribbled past once, won just five duels all game, and made just 50% of his eight long ball attempts.

At times last term, Lees was described as a “liability” who was in “horrendous form” by supporters. Evidently, not much has changed this season either.

If Pulis has any sense, he’ll make a damning U-turn on the former Owls skipper, at least until he proves he deserves an extension to his massive wages.

Right now, he’s not fit to wear the shirt – even Monk could see that.

Signing £18m-rated teenager would be seriously smart business from Wolves

Wolves have been named as the club in pole position to sign rising talent Rayan Ait Nouri from Ligue 1 side SCO Angers.

That’s according to RMC Sport (via HITC), who tip the Premier League outfit to be leading the race for his services, with Valencia also reportedly interested in tabling an offer. The left-back is looking for a way out of the club following their recent heavy 6-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

A price tag hasn’t been specified for the 19-year-old yet, but he is currently valued at £18million by Transfermarkt.

How Ait Nouri would fit in at Wolves

Wolves are currently in a predicament when it comes to their left-back position. With talisman Jonny Otto currently out with a knee injury, it leaves Nuno Espirito Santo with just one available option. Ruben Vinagre has been doing a fine job on the left flank but he is set to move on, leaving Wolves in seriously hot water, with no other left-back available.

Ait Nouri can be deployed in both the left midfield and left wing positions as well as his natural role in defence. With Diogo Jota no longer at the club and Wolves running low on options, the Frenchman could provide some much needed depth in attack too.

In three appearances for Angers this season, the teenager has already bagged himself an assist. He tallied three assists last season and seven clean sheets in 17 appearances – he was sidelined for the back end of the campaign due to suffering a fractured jaw (via Transfermarkt).

Wolves planning for the future

After snapping up Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool, it seems that Nuno is very much invested in creating a strong and youthful squad. The young Dutchman joined the club last month for a fee of £9million, becoming part of the bigger picture at Molineux. Ait Nouri could arrive in similar fashion, but he may be called upon sooner than expected.

Wolves currently have just four senior midfielders on their roster and may opt to utilise the 19-year-old’s admirable versatility in the middle of the park. Angers manager Stephane Moulin has given a preview to what Nuno could expect from the France youth international.

“For Rayan, I have rarely seen a boy with this talent, he is very ahead of the game,” he told RMC Sport (via GFFN). He was very well balanced and I think that he will find himself in a big club.”

Wolves finished in a very respectable seventh place last season, behind sixth-placed Spurs only on goal difference. Despite their sticky start to this term, the Wanderers could easily pull back another strong season and adding another talented and proven player to the ranks could be a step in the right direction.

Predicted Liverpool lineup to face Aston Villa

Liverpool will hope to continue their winning streak in the Premier League with a victory on the road against Aston Villa.

The Reds may look to be favourites on paper, but Dean Smith’s side have come flying out of the blocks to make amends for their poor 2019/20 campaign. The Villans have won two out of their two games played and are yet to concede a goal, which puts huge pressure on Liverpool this evening.

Football FanCast has predicted how Jurgen Klopp might line-up to face Aston Villa, including two changes from their last league game against Arsenal.

With Sadio Mane ruled out due to illness, Klopp could choose to hand Diogo Jota his first Premier League start following on from his late goal against Arsenal last time out in the division. It will be exciting to watch the new signing operate with Mohamed Salah on the opposite flank and Roberto Firmino creating pockets of space up front. A second goal may be on the cards for the Portugal international.

With Takumi Minamino having found his feet in a more central role, Klopp may opt to start him to help break down Villa’s tough backline. The support of Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum will help create play and keep passes flowing.

However, with a more attacking midfielder deployed, it’s difficult to see Fabinho being dropped. Instead, he may return to the heart of the Liverpool defence to pair up with Virgil van Dijk. The Brazilian played the centre-back role against Chelsea and tallied a very impressive 97% passing accuracy along with four interceptions, four tackles and 5/8 successful long balls (via Sofascore). This would mean that £36m-valued Joe Gomez drops to the bench.

The usual full-back combination of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will help create chances but also restore Liverpool’s full-strength defence.

Coventry: Matt Godden touches on Callum O’Hare link

Coventry City player Matt Godden has said that he and his teammates would ‘love’ to see Callum O’Hare return to the club this summer.

The Aston Villa academy graduate saw his contract come to an end at Villa Park in June, leading to much speculation that he would return to Coventry, having spent the 2019/2020 season on loan with Mark Robins’ side.

O’Hare performed well during his time with the Sky Blues, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in the process.

The youngster’s form played a big part in the club’s automatic promotion to the Championship via League One and his former teammate and Coventry striker Godden has now called on him to return.

Speaking to CoventryLIVE, Godden revealed his thoughts on a potential return for O’Hare.

“Every single person at the club would love him back.

“He knows what all the boys think of him and obviously it’s a massive decision for him in his career so I don’t blame him for taking his time.

“But the fans, players especially and the staff as well all love him. He’s a top lad. He’s a quiet one but he’s no trouble and he’s one hell of a player as well.”

During his time at Villa, O’Hare made just nine appearances for the first team, appearing 61 times at under-23 level.

Callum O’Hare’s role at Coventry over the last 12 months has been so important and his return would be a massive boost as they look to take on the challenge of the Championship.

The young midfield talent will, like all at the Sky Blues, be relishing the chance, if he returns, to test his ability in England’s second tier.

Talk of a move has gone fairly quiet in the last few weeks, but you have to feel Coventry are still in pole position.

Tottenham Hotspur: Alan Hutton insists Spurs will miss ‘quality player’ after devastating injury

Alan Hutton admits he is disappointed after Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga missed the Premier League restart with a devastating injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hutton insists it is a “real shame” that Tanganga is currently out of action with a suspected stress fracture in his back.

Tottenham confirmed earlier this week that he remains sidelined alongside his teammate Juan Foyth.

The former Spurs star believes the defender may miss out even more, as Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford suffered a similar fate in January.

Hutton told assistant editor Russell Edge “it’s a real shame, this is the thing with injuries like that, you never know when it’s going to pop up and when it does it’s normally the wrong time.

“I feel for him, you look at Rashford, he was out for such a long time with the same thing so it’s going to be difficult for him.

“I think we’ve seen enough in him to know that he’s a quality player and definitely one for the future.

“He’s very young, plenty of time on his hands so it’s all about getting right, not rushing back, taking the time to sort it properly and I’m sure for the upcoming season he’ll be in Mourinho’s plans.”

It is hard to argue with Hutton here, as Tanganga has been one of the few success stories in a difficult season for Spurs.

The 21-year-old, who only broke into the first team this season, was a regular feature for Jose Mourinho’s side prior to the nationwide lockdown, which bodes well for the future.

He has played in a variety of defensive positions so far and impressed Mourinho his debut against league leaders Liverpool.

With Foyth and Jan Vertonghen seemingly on their way out the door, the stage was set for Tanganga to stake his claim.

Unfortunately he picked up a knock in training ahead of the clash with Manchester United and his return is as of yet unknown.

The Lilywhites are currently seventh in the table, six points away from fourth-placed Chelsea, although their London rivals have a game in hand.

While Tanganga should not be blamed for the latest setback, his injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Mourinho as Spurs seek to qualify for Champions League football.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans welcome William Carvalho transfer link

Some Wolverhampton Wanderers have welcomed a transfer link to William Carvalho after Transfer20 reported that the Midlands club are interested in signing the Real Betis man.

As per the report, Leicester, Tottenham and West Ham are also interested in the ace who is valued at €30m (£26.3m). Carvalho is apparently tempted to play in the Premier League and the article claims that Betis would welcome a capital gain if they are to sell him to a British club.

Being from Portugal, the 28-year old would arguably suit a move to Wolves, with their Portuguese contingent as strong as ever. Carvalho may relish playing with players like Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the heart of midfield, as well as having compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.

In a season scuppered by injuries, the central midfielder has only made nine appearances in La Liga this campaign, according to Sofascore.

Nevertheless, these Wolves supporters welcomed the transfer link on Twitter:

Man Utd fans react to key Odion Ighalo update

So after initially looking like he was returning back to China, Odion Ighalo’s stay at Manchester United has been extended until the end of January.

The Nigerian arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day at the start of this year, and enjoyed a pretty impressive few games for the club, netting four times in just eight appearances across all competitions.

But with the current situation putting contracts of players up in the air, there was a concern that Ighalo may have to leave United without completing the end of the season.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have managed to convince Shanghai Shenhua to let him stay, and now, The Daily Mail have revealed some crucial pieces of information about the deal.

It’s suggested that the club have agreed a £6m deal with the Chinese Super League side for the loan extension, and that they will have to pay £130k of his reported £300k-a-week salary.

And after hearing about the report, United fans flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts on the situation.

Some United fans however seemed to be far from pleased with the deal, with one supporter bringing up Sadio Mane’s wages at Liverpool – the Senegal international currently earns £100k-a-week, some £30k less than what Solskjaer’s side will be paying Ighalo.

With Marcus Rashford also returning back from injury, the news on Ighalo means United look set to be heading into the Premier League’s restart with a lot more attacking firepower at their disposal than they may have thought of even a couple of weeks ago.

Solskjaer’s side are battling to get into the top four, and having Ighalo as a viable option from off the bench or even in the starting eleven, means United should be more confident of finding the back of the net more regularly.
