Warwickshire fall short in fourth innings as visitors wrap up three-day success

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay18-May-2025Hampshire hit back from last week’s thrashing by Nottinghamshire in emphatic style with an 89-run Rothesay County Championship win over Warwickshire inside three days at Edgbaston.Set a target of 310, Warwickshire were all out for 220, unpicked by seamers James Fuller and Kyle Abbott. Alex Davies, with 66 from 106 balls, and Ethan Bamber (43) offered some resistance but the rest were blown away by a Hampshire side resurgent after their surrender at Trent Bridge.Hampshire’s second innings had closed in the morning on 203. Beau Webster took 4 for 57 and Bamber 4 for 60 but the match was decided by the visitors outbowling their hosts on a pitch which offered encouragement to seamers throughout.After Hampshire resumed on 159 for 6, already 275 ahead, Bamber quickly struck twice when Brad Wheal edged to second slip and Fuller’s middle-stump was sent flying by an inside-edged slog. Abbott pulled Bamber for six in a handy run-a-ball stand of 32 with Toby Albert before Webster had Albert and John Turner caught behind in three balls.A target of 310 offered an intriguing last chapter to an engrossing match and Warwickshire’s chase began spectacularly. They were 10 for 2 after three overs after Abbott hit Rob Yates’ off stump, Davies struck his first two balls for four and Tom Latham edged Abbott to wicketkeeper Ben Brown.Unfazed by the rocky start, Davies and Sam Hain added 68 in 24 overs. Hain looked in excellent form on his way to 30 but his season’s story so far of getting in then getting out continued when he offered no shot to an Abbott in-ducker and was lbw.Davies reached a 66-ball half-century but was among the casualties as Fuller unleashed a ferocious spell from the Pavilion End, ripping out 3 for 3 in 12 balls. Webster and Davies were trapped in front by balls that kept low, either side of Ed Barnard tickling an outswinger to the keeper.At 126 for 6, Warwickshire needed something special from their lower order on a pitch which had yielded just one half-century in each innings. It was understandably beyond them. Zen Malik hoisted Turner to fine leg. Bamber and Che Simmons fought hard to add 43 in 17 overs before Fuller returned to complete his five-for by removing both. Bamber edged behind, Simmons lofted to long leg and when Turner flattened Olly Hannon-Dalby’s off-stump, Hampshire’s reassertion of their qualities was complete.

They still trail Derbyshire by 210 runs at the 1st Central County Ground.Sussex, chasing 316 merely to avoid the follow-on, got off to the worst possible start against an impressive Derbyshire attack when the normally adhesive Ali Orr was out first ball. Captain and star batter Tom Haines was second out at 36, swinging at a legside delivery from Dustin Melton to give Guest another catch. Danial Ibrahim made just one before he edged the formidable Ben Aitchson to Wayne Madsen at second slip, and Aitchson struck again in his next over when he caught Harrison Ward bang in front of stumps for a duck.At that stage Sussex were 46 for 4 and being outplayed by Derbyshire in the battle to avoid the County Championship’s wooden spoon. But Brown, watched by his parents, and fellow wicketkeeper Oliver Carter then put on 142 for the fifth wicket in 40 overs. Carter scored his maiden first-class fifty, though he was out shortly afterwards, caught on the square-leg boundary for 51, and Melton made it two wickets in five balls when he dismissed the wretchedly out-of-form Delray Rawlins, caught and bowled for a duck off a leading edge.But Brown, who reached his hundred from 134 balls with 14 fours, went on to reach 150 not out.Derbyshire had resumed on 371 for 5 and they lost their sixth wicket to the third ball of the morning. Guest had not added to his 30 runs when he was lbw to the lively Jamie Atkins.There followed a brisk seventh wicket partnership of 54 between Anuj Dal and Mattie McKiernan, who played a number of handsome strokes before he was caught behind to a delivery from Sean Hunt that surprised him with its bounce.Aitchison, driving, was caught by Brown at first slip and then Melton was well taken by Ibrahim at deep backward square-leg. Finally, Ed Moulton gave Brown his second catch at first slip after it was parried by second slip. Both Atkins and Henry Crocombe finished with four wickets. The Derbyshire total of 465 included 57 extras.

أكد خالد الغندور الإعلامي الرياضي، أن مسؤولي الزمالك يدرسون أكثر من سيرة ذاتية للتعاقد مع مدير فني جديد، خلفًا للبرتغالي جوسفالدوا فيريرا.

وقال الغندور في تصريحات عبر فضائية “الزمالك”: “المدربون المرشحون لتدريب نادي الزمالك من المدارس الألمانية أو الإيطالية أو البرازيلية أو البرتغالية”.

وأكمل: “مسؤولو الزمالك توصلوا لاتفاق مع اثنين من الأربعة مدربين، الأول في العقد الخامس من عمره ولديه مشروع، والثاني مدرب كبير جدًا في العقد السابع ولديه استراتيجية مختلفة”.

واختتم: “الاتجاه العام داخل الزمالك التعاقد مع المدرب صغير السن، خلال هذا الأسبوع سيتم الاستقرار على المدير الفني الجديد للأبيض”.

هاجم محمد عبد الجليل لاعب الأهلي السابق إدارة القلعة الحمراء برئاسة محمود الخطيب بعد هزيمة الفريق أمام صن داونز بخماسية في دوري أبطال إفريقيا، مُشيرًا إلى أنها فضيحة كروية.

وخسر الأهلي بخماسية مُقابل هدفين في مباراة الجولة الرابعة من مرحلة المجموعات لبطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، لتضعف آمال المارد الأحمر في التأهل لدور ربع النهائي، حيث أصبح الفريق مُطالباً بالفوز على القطن الكاميروني والهلال السوداني، بشرط هزيمة الأخير أمام صن داونز، من أجل الصعود للدور التالي.

وقال عبد الجليل في تصريحات عبر برنامج “بوكس تو بوكس” على قناة “etc”: “حزين للخسارة التي تلقاها الأهلي أمام صن داونز للمرة الثانية بنتيجة كبيرة، ما حدث مهزلة كبيرة لا يُمكن السكوت عنها، لأنني سبق وطالبت كثيرًا بضم لاعبين مميزين وتدعيم الفريق بعناصر مميزة”.

وتابع: “سبق وطالبت إدارة النادي ولجنة التخطيط للكرة، بأن تضم لاعبين على مستوى عالٍ، الخسارة من صن داونز كانت صعبة ومُهينة للغاية، خصوصًا أنه للمرة الثانية يخسر الأهلي بخمسة أهداف وهي نتيجة كبيرة للغاية”.

وواصل: “الأهلي يُعاني من مشكلات في معظم مراكز الملعب، بدءًا من حراسة المرمى وحتى الهجوم، محمد الشناوي ليس فوق النقد ويستحق الهجوم الذي يتعرض له، ومستوى حراس الأحمر غير مطمئن للغاية، ولا يوجد بديل للحارس الأول، تم إعادة ميشيل يانكون من جديد دون أي بصمة”.

وأردف: “لا يوجد ظهير أيسر بديل لـ علي معلول الذي يستحق الشكر على ما قدمه لكنه لم يعد قادرًا على اللعب بمفرده، الأهلي محليا يمر بفترة جيدة ومتصدر بطولة الدوري، لكن من الواضح أن المستوى القاري بعيد تمامًا، وظهر ذلك واضحًا في دور المجموعات”.

واستكمل: “كولر لا يعرف أجواء إفريقيا، والعيب هنا على الجهاز المعاون، فماذا يفعل سامي قمصان؟، كان من المفترض أن يُنبه المدير الفني، سامي قدم ما عليه، ويجب الدفع بدماء جديدة، وهناك مدربون كثيرون من أبناء النادي، وقطاع الناشئين في الأهلي يضم بعض المدربين ليسوا من أبناء النادي، وتم اختيارهم وفقًا للعلاقات مع مجلس الإدارة برئاسة محمود الخطيب”.

واستمر: “الخطيب يركز حاليا على الرعاة وليس متفرغًا لفريق الكرة ويجامل الذين ساندوه في الانتخابات ويقوم بتعيينهم في النادي، الخطيب أسطورة كروية، لكنه خسر مرتين بالخمسة من نفس الفريق، وهذه الخسارة معها من المفترض أن ترحل مجالس إدارات، رئيس النادي هو من يتحمل كل هذا، فأين إنجازات مجلس الإدارة”.

وأشار: “النادي الأهلي ليس نادٍيا اجتماعيا، ولا يجوز الاجتماع كل يوم مع الفريق، صالح سليم اجتمع معنا مرة واحدة وكنا في المركز العاشر وقتها، وقال لنا (ايه هتهبطوا) أتحدث الآن وأنا لا أريد العمل في القلعة الحمراء مطلقًا”.

وشدد: “بدر رجب على سبيل المثال يعمل منذ سنوات في الإمارات، فلماذا لا يتم الاستعانة به، خالد بيبو لم يقدم أي جديد في عمله ولا يصلح لرئاسة قطاع الناشئين، وكيف يعقل أن يكون وليد سليمان نائبًا له، وأين اللاعبين الناشئين الذين تم تصعيدهم، حتى محمد عبدالمنعم كان سيرحل بالمجان لولا عمرو أنور تمسك بوجوده”.

واختتم: “بيرسي تاو تألق في المباراة الماضية لأنه كان يلعب لنفسه فقط، لجنة التخطيط تعاقدت مع لاعبين كثيرين لم يضيفوا ولا يلعبوا من الأساس، يجب هيكلة قطاع كرة القدم تماما، هزيمة الأهلي من المفترض أن تغير مجلس إدارة بالكامل”.

تحدث هيرون ريكاردو المدير الفني للمريخ السوداني، عن مباراة فريقه المقبلة أمام الزمالك ضمن منافسات بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

ويلتقي الزمالك مع المريخ السوداني عصر الجمعة المقبلة في لقاءات الجولة الثانية من مرحلة المجموعات بالمسابقة القارية.

وقال ريكاردو في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر قناة صدى البلد: “خسرنا أول مباراة مثل الزمالك، وبالتالي مواجهتنا معًا لا تقبل القسمة على إثنين، لن تكون مواجهة سهلة لأنها أمام فريق كبير ولديه تاريخ كبير أيضًا”.

وأكمل: “شاهدت مباراة الزمالك وسموحة، والأبيض دائمًا لديه روح المنافسة، وكل مواجهة لها خصوصيتها، وسنسعى لتحقيق الفوز عليهم، الزمالك فريق كبير ومليء باللاعبين الكبار، ومساعدي درس الفريق جيدًا لكي نحقق الفوز عليهم، وهذه أول مواجهة بيني وبين فيريرا، وهو مدرب قدير”.

وبسؤاله عن الخسارة أمام الترجي وشكوى المريخ، أوضح: “الحكم الرابع لم يركز في تغييرات الترجي على 4 فترات، لا أعرف أين ستذهب الأمور، ورغم ذلك أؤكد أن الترجي فريق قوي جدًا”.

وتابع: “المريخ لم يتجمع منذ 20 يومًا بسبب الانضمام للمنتخب، كنت أتمنى أن نجتمع في وقت مُبكر عن ذلك، لكن لا يوجد وقت للأعذار”.

وبشأن خوض مباريات الفريق في ليبيا؟، أجاب: “بالتأكيد هذا ليس أفضل خيار لنا أن نلعب في ليبيا، بل أن نلعب في السودان، ولكن الإدارة حاليًا تسعى لتطوير الاستاد ليكون جاهزًا في حالة تأهلنا”.

وحول سؤاله عن تعاقد منتخب مصر الأولمبي مع مواطنه ميكالي؟، أجاب: “أهنئ مصر بتواجد مدرب بهذه الكفاءة، هو صديق جيد لي ومدرب كبير وسيقدم الكثير للمنتخب المصري”.

بدأ الهلال بقوة في الشوط الثاني ليهدر علي البليهي فرصة أمام المرمى في الدقيقة 49 نجح دفاع الوداد في ابعادها.

وفي الشوط الثاني من ركلة ركنية سجل الوداد هدفه الأول عن طريق العاملود برأسية في الدقيقة 52.

وكادت النتيجة تتجه لفوز الوداد لكن في الدقيقة 90 ينجح سعود عبد الحميد في الحصول على ركلة جزاء نفذها لاعب الوسط محمد كنو بنجاح ليدرك التعادل للفريق الأزرق بينما نال لاعب الوداد يحي جبران البطاقة الحمراء.

ذهبت المباراة للأشواط الإضافة التي شهد نيل محمد كنو بطاقة حمراء في الدقيقة 95 بسبب تدخل قوي للتساوى الكفتين على مستوى البطاقات الحمراء.

وشهدت الدقيقة 105 من الشوط الإضافي الأول اهدار موسى ماريغا انفراد أمام مرمى التكنوتي حارس مرمى الوداد بينما لم تسفر الأشواط الاضافية عن أهداف لنذهب إلى ركلات الجزاء.

The visitors slumped to 111 for 7 before MS Dhoni rediscovered his form with a counter-attacking 77 as Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan shared eight wickets to do the bulk of the damage.Andrew Strauss won his first toss of the series and was happy to insert – as his opposite number had twice done in the series – but though conditions were helpful the pitch was slow and the Indian batsmen mostly aided in their own demise. The only real exception was Rahul Dravid, removed by a wonderful ball from Bresnan moments before lunch, while Virender Sehwag’s return lasted one ball and Sachin Tendulkar fell for 1 as England surged either side of the interval.If it wasn’t for Dhoni this match could well have been over as a contest already, but India still have a huge task to keep the series alive after Strauss and Alastair Cook made a significant dent in the total during the final 23 overs. Strauss reached his first international fifty of the season as the pace bowlers struggled to make an impression and Amit Mishra didn’t pose many problems.England’s quicks, on the other hand, are a handful in most conditions so a well-grassed pitch and cloudy skies just added to the threat. As with the Broad-Swann stand at Trent Bridge it showed the impact of a positive approach and India were served well by the captain coming out of his shell.Dhoni had taken 16 balls to get off the mark, and India were going nowhere as the main batsman had departed in a rush, but he burst into life with a string of boundaries and the strut so often associated with his batting hinted at returning. His fifty came from 62 balls and included three mighty sixes to various corners of the impressively redeveloped ground.Still, Dhoni’s innings only papered over the ever-expanding cracks in India’s batting. It would have seemed inconceivable at the start of the series that such a strong line-up (even allowing for the missing Sehwag and other injuries) would have failed to pass 300 in five innings. Sehwag’s return couldn’t have been briefer when he failed to lower his hands and gloved Broad’s first delivery to the wicketkeeper. The umpire, Steve Davis, initially said not out and Strauss was swift to call for the DRS, which clearly showed the mark on HotSpot. Sehwag was seemingly carrying the hopes of a nation on his dodgy shoulder, but the odds were always stacked against him having an impact even if he’s one player who often goes against convention.Smart stats

India were dismissed under 300 in the team first innings for the tenth time in Tests since January 2009. Seven of these occasions have come in the last nine innings.

Stuart Broad picked up four or more wickets in an innings for the eighth time in Tests and the third time in his last five innings. In 16 previous innings, he had just one four-wicket haul.

MS Dhoni’s 77 is only his second half-century in 2011. He has now scored 223 runs this year at an average of 20.27.

Virender Sehwag was dismissed off the first ball he faced. It is the fifth time that he has been dismissed off his very first delivery.

The 113 runs added for the eighth and ninth wickets is the fourth-highest aggregate partnership runs for the eighth and ninth wickets for India against England.

Since the Brisbane Test in November 2010, England have bowled out the opposition team in 17 out of 19 innings. The only two times they failed to bowl out the opposition were in rain-affected matches against Sri Lanka.

The half-century opening stand for England is only their second in Tests this year. The previous fifty-plus opening stand came in the Sydney Test in January.

Andrew Strauss’ half-century is his first in nine innings after his 60 in the Sydney Test in January 2011. In eight innings prior to this one, he scored 129 runs at an average of 16.12.

Given the form of England’s pace attack, a grassy pitch and cloudy skies, further wickets seemed there for the taking but India responded solidly. Gautam Gambhir, also returning from injury after the blow to his elbow at Lord’s, had already collected two boundaries in Anderson’s first over and moved along at a pace more akin to Sehwag’s. Dravid, who wasn’t given much of a break despite a return to No. 3, showed the judgement and skill that made him India’s stand-out batsman in the series.However, as India were sensing stability England burst through as Bresnan, who had bowled with nagging accuracy and immediately located the right length for the pitch, was rewarded when Gambhir inside-edged a drive onto leg stump. Tendulkar was greeted with the cheers that have followed him throughout the series and Anderson was recalled immediately to target someone he has removed seven times.This time, though, Anderson had to settle for a helping hand in the wicket when Broad found the outside edge and he held the catch at third slip. It was the third time in the series that Broad had removed Tendulkar, whose 100th hundred is proving elusive, and India’s problems didn’t stop as Dravid received an unplayable leg cutter that took off stump in the final over of the session. England have had to work hard to dislodge Dravid in this series and Bresnan won’t have bowled many better deliveries in his career.Suresh Raina was again unconvincing as the quicks toyed with him before he loosely drove over a delivery from round the wicket, then Laxman joined the list of poor shots when he flicked a pull straight to long leg much as he did at Lord’s. Mishra, who replaced the injured Harbhajan Singh, was batting high at No. 8 and soon edged a drive to give Broad his fourth.The innings was at its low point, and England will have expected to be batting by tea, but India responded with some gusto. Praveen more than played his part with an idiosyncratic innings which included crunching drives and haphazard defence. The partnership was ended when Praveen top edged a pull off Bresnan, but it again needed DRS to confirm the edge after Davis said not out for the second time.Given the ultra-defensive fields set by Strauss it was ironic that Dhoni’s resistance was ended when an edge flew to the one close man – Strauss, himself, at first slip. The innings was ended when Cook, at silly point, managed to cling onto a well-timed punch that lodged in his elbow. When a team is playing confident cricket those are the sorts of things that go their way. One more good day can seal the series and No. 1 spot.
