Former Celtic teammates congratulate Man City winger Patrick Roberts on loan move to Norwich City

He received numerous responses from various players including Celtic stars Kieran Tierney and Scott Bain

Roberts spent two seasons on loan in Glasgow and won seven trophies as well as making 78 appearances scoring 18 and setting up a further 26.

This is the former Fulham mans’ third loan spell away from the Etihad, and it is unlikely he will ever become a first team player for Manchester City, but if he impresses for the Canaries, then he may still have a Premier League career to look forward to.

One thing for sure is that his old Celtic teammates will want him to do well for Daniel Farke’s side.

Rangers: Club will be a laughing stock if they sign Stewart Downing

With the transfer window in Scotland days away from opening, Steve Gerrard is already trying to get the most of his summer dealings done early.

A plethora of new faces have already been confirmed to be joining the club this summer with more expected to come as the Rangers manager aims to build a side that can compete with Celtic for the upcoming season, although not every player linked with the club can help achieve this goal.

According to Sky Sports News journalist Keith Downie, Rangers are one of the clubs interested in Middlesbrough playmaker Stewart Downing, who is likely to be released this summer at the age of 34, and if Gerrard is aiming to build a side that can compete with Scotland’s best, the former Liverpool man isn’t the answer.

Downing has not been at his best for a very long time, and although he is a fairly big name and could have done a job in Scotland three or four years ago, at this stage of his career, the former England international is simply way too past it to be even considered an actual signing.

The veteran playmaker will be unable to match the impact Ryan Kent made at the club last season and Downing would also be an expensive signing on the wage-bill front, with a currently reported wage of £35,000-a-week on Riverside.

Gerrard should be looking for players that can make the fans excited and make rival supporters fearful, however, signing Downing will have the opposite effect, and the club should reconsider their options this summer when it comes to replacing Kent.

Rangers fans, who should the club bring in this summer to replace Kent? Let us know!

Leigh Griffiths’ return should send shockwaves around Celtic

Great news for Celtic fans as Leigh Griffiths backs himself to flourish under Neil Lennon’s management after overcoming health issues.

Time to rejoice: the mighty Griffiths is making his return to Scottish football.

The striker has sadly been missing since December after taking a break from the sport to address some personal issues.

But the fan favourite has recently returned to proceedings and is apparently doing everything he can to get back into shape for the start of the next campaign as Celtic look to build on last year’s success.

Griffiths is keen to add to his already whopping 104-goal tally for the Hoops by helping the club get their hands on nine-in-a-row.

He said to Celtic TV (via The Sun): “Is the hunger still as strong as ever? It’s probably more so now.

“From where I’ve been in December to now, it’s night and day.

“Hopefully when I pull that jersey back on and step onto the pitch I’ll be firing in all cylinders.

“It’s been a tough few months, double training sessions every day. I’m on the home straight now and not long to go before pre-season.

“I’m hoping to come back a lot fitter than the previous start to the campaign.

“Being in the gym near enough every day gives me that platform to get fitter and when we come back on the 17th I’ll be raring to go.”

It’s great stuff, it really is.

While we wouldn’t necessarily say the club have been detrimentally missing Griffiths this year – given just how well they have performed in the domestic competitions – there are definitely some things he could improve in the squad.

Not least giving Celtic a bit more firepower in Europe, the only arena they are yet to dominate.

With just one recognised quality striker in the squad now, Odsonne Edouard, since the departed Timothy Weah returns to Paris this month, Griffiths is needed back now more than ever.

He needs it, the fans want it to happen and the rest of Scottish football are surely cowering.

Celtic fans, how excited are you for the return? Do you feel like you could have achieved more with the Griffiths at your disposal? Let us know in the comments below…

Spurs fans love Moussa Sissoko boost ahead of Champions League clash

[ad_pod ]

Moussa Sissoko could be fit to play for Tottenham Hotspur against Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, per the club’s official website, to the delight of the club’s fans.

The France international has been integral to the hopes of Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, having been transformed under the Argentine’s management.

Sissoko has played 39 times in all competitions but sustained a groin injury in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City.

He subsequently missed the Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion as well as the defeat to West Ham United on Saturday.

But he will be assessed ahead of the clash with the Dutch giants and could be involved as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to reach their first European final of the modern era.

And fans believe he has an integral role to play as Spurs look to achieve history against Ajax over two legs.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Vertonghen reveals astonishing reaction to Champions League reprieve

[ad_pod ]

Jan Vertonghen has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur had no idea that they were going to be sent into the Champions League semi-finals by an amazing VAR decision, per Goal.

Manchester City thought they had beaten Spurs at the Etihad Stadium, with Raheem Sterling completing his hat-trick in injury time, only to see it ruled out.

What’s the word?

Spurs took a 1-0 lead into the game at the Etihad Stadium and a modern classic unfolded, leaving supporters of both sides breathless.

Both sides traded four goals in the opening 11 minutes before Sterling scored to give City a 3-2 lead just after the 20th minute. A Sergio Aguero goal then gave City the aggregate advantage, only for Fernando Llorente to swing the tie back Spurs’ way.

Sterling, thought he had won it in injury time, slotting Aguero’s cut-back past Hugo Lloris; Aguero, however, was offside in the build-up and VAR subsequently ruled the goal out.

Vertonghen, though, says Spurs did not even have the slightest inclination that the Argentine was offside, with a semi-final clash with Dutch giants Ajax now looming.

“It was crazy, madness, absolute madness. You don’t know anything and it’s a weird feeling,” Vertonghen said.

“No-one was even appealing for offside, we all thought they had scored. Everyone was on the floor, but there was still two or three minutes left.

“So it was ‘let’s try and get the ball in the box and we will see whatever happens’. And then out of nothing, the referee came up with VAR. We didn’t even know.”

An omen

This was a game that had genuinely everything, with Spurs ultimately progressing to their first European Cup semi-final in over 50 years.

VAR has gone against them before – City’s Fernandinho should probably have been sent off in the first leg for an elbow on Harry Kane – but Spurs are now indebted to the technology.

All the great triumphs in football need that little bit of luck.

That Vertonghen says that Spurs were not even bothering to appeal for an offside tells you everything.

They were given a last-minute reprieve akin to resuscitation. They must now ensure they do not waste it, with Spurs, amazingly, now just three wins away from Champions League glory.

Tottenham: Gareth Bale returning home the next phase of the project

Imagine the excitement if Gareth Bale came back to Tottenham! They’ve got a shiny, new stadium and now they need a marquee signing, so who better than a man already close to the fans’ hearts?

Marca have claimed they are one of a number of clubs interested in the Real Madrid superstar after a hit-and-miss time at the Bernabeu over the past few seasons. He’s played 25 times in La Liga this season, scoring eight and assisting two in a disastrous season for the club.

There’s rumours Eden Hazard could be the club’s next major forward signing, according to Sky Sports, and with Bale and returned manager Zinedine Zidane never seeing eye to eye, it could be the time for the Welshman to move.

Cue a Daniel Levy masterclass?

It’s unlikely the Spurs chairman would want to splash the cash, but he could see it as the right opportunity to test Madrid’s resolve. If Bale was to request a move then Spurs could get him for much cheaper than expected and Levy does love a bargain.

It’d be another way of expressing the club’s ambition to reach the top, and this summer could be make or break with regard to this Spurs era.

Signing Bale would keep the fans’ excitement at a peak, prove to the existing squad that the club are going places, and add another explosive element to their attack.

In it for the money? Metgod’s Nottingham Forest exit provokes mixed fan response

[ad_pod ]

Nottingham Forest cult hero John Metgod has left the club, but not for the first time.

During his playing career, the Dutchman enjoyed a three-year spell with the Reds in the 1980s before leaving to join Spurs. However, after becoming a part of the board of directors at the club in 2017, he has now gone again.

He’ll be moving to the Far East where he’ll join the U.A.E as the assistant manager of their national team.

In response, Forest fans have shared a mixed reaction. Some left GIFs which suggest he’s only left because of the money, but there were some more positive tweets sent in the direction of their former player as well.

One supporter claimed they were still in awe of his free-kicks whilst another said they were his first ever favourite player.

Metgod had a successful playing career, especially in his native Netherlands where he won major honours with AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

Newcastle fans react to Andy Carroll’s latest setback

[ad_pod ]

Andy Carroll may well have played his last game for West Ham United.

Out of contract this summer, Carroll has picked up another ankle injury.

The 30-year-old bounced back from ankle surgery to make his return in the latter stages of 2018, but has not played in West Ham’s last two Premier League matches.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed on Thursday that the centre-forward had picked up another issue, but refused to put a timescale on it.

West Ham can trigger an extension to Carroll’s contract if they wish, but it seems likely that he will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The news has been discussed by the Newcastle United fans on social media, with some insisting that they would not take the nine-time England international back.

Carroll scored 33 times in 90 appearances during his time at Newcastle, but is now seemingly battling to save his career in the top flight.
