Dean Smith must prioritise summer deal for Kortney Hause

Aston Villa fans have been living in dreamland in recent times as Dean Smith continues to get the very best out of his side, with a play-off spot now well within their sights.

It’s safe to say that Smith’s January transfer window signings have had a huge influence on how things have panned out during the second half of the season as the likes of Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause have worked wonders.

Hause has been simply sensational in recent games as he continues to enjoy a rich vein of form and he even managed to find the back of the net against Nottingham Forest. The Villans have conceded just once in the three matches that the Englishman has started in, which just goes to show much of an influence he’s had.

But, securing a summer deal for the central defender may be difficult as his parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers will be well aware of his performances at Villa Park, so they could look to include him in their plans next season.

Villa simply must make him their top summer target as he’s helped cure their central defensive woes and has already built a formidable partnership with Mings. Indeed, many supporters feared the worst when James Chester suffered an injury but Hause has made fans forget all about the Welshman as he’s made the position his own.

The 23-year-old is clearly enjoying life at Villa Park and he’s already found a place in the hearts of many supporters, so he may be open to a permanent move in the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa fans, would you like to see Kortney Hause at Villa Park permanently? Surely he’s done enough to warrant a permanent move…

Liverpool fans loved Wijnaldum’s display vs Bournemouth

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been giving their verdict on Saturday’s comfortable 3-0 win, and there’s plenty of praise for the often-unheralded Georginio Wijnaldum.

After making his name for Newcastle as a goalscoring midfield who loved to drive into the box with Frank Lampard-esque timing, Wijnaldum’s transformation at Liverpool has been remarkable.

Jurgen Klopp has turned the Dutch international into one of the most well-rounded box-to-box midfielders in the world, a role which is perfectly suited to the composed, mature and ridiculously athletic 28 year-old.

Roberto Firmino has thrown a party themed around the colour of his teeth! Watch the video below to find out what we’re talking about…

Perhaps the one mark against his overall game is a lack of goals – he had scored just once in the league before Saturday – but it was him who put the game to bed with a delightful goal.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring with a header, but Wijnaldum stole the show when he latched onto an Andy Robertson pass, controlled the ball beautifully with his first touch and then gently lobbed it over the helpless Artur Boruc.

The all-action midfielder, who Klopp claimswas badly ill before the match, completed 91 per cent of his passes, made three key passes and one tackle, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

When is the Premier league likely to resume?

The world misses the Premier League

With the Premier League season still under suspension, one of the biggest questions that have remained on every football lover’s lips is when the restart is likely to be.

Although in the face of the ongoing pandemic, such questions might be considered to be rather sensitive and selfish, considering that people are testing positive for the virus every minute, while several others are dying every day.

But can we really blame these fans for missing their beloved league so much?

No, we cannot.

The bromance between the EPL and its global community is just too strong to be broken by any pandemic.

No disrespect COVID-19, but that’s just the truth.

As the most-watched league in the world, the premier league has been a hotspot for football lovers for many years now. And that’s thanks in no small parts to its nonstop delivery of mouthwatering fixtures, exciting matchups, and several other intriguing actions.

But football lovers aren’t the only ones who miss the glamour and glitz of the Premier League.

Talk of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) fans, Monday Night Football (MNF) lovers, and even those bettors betting with Agen Bola Terpercaya like Spbobet all miss the excitements, money-making potential, and entertainment of their beloved league.

What we know about the suspension of the Premier League

In the wake of Mikel Arteta testing positive for the COVID-19 virus back in March, the football bodies in England decided to halt all footballing activities, including weekend matchups, FA Cup games, and even lower league fixtures.

But with most clubs still having at least 9 matches to play before the season wraps, there’s a growing sense that the few remaining games might just be played behind closed doors.

How long has the Premier League been suspended for?

Back in March, the match between Manchester City and Arsenal had to be called off because some of the members of the Arsenal team were feared to have been in direct contact with the disease, having met the president of the Greek club Olympiakos a while before. The rescheduling of that match marked the beginning of a process that would soon eventually result in the indefinite suspension of the whole league.

From the time of suspending the Manchester City vs. Arsenal game, a match earlier scheduled to hold on March 11, the Premier League has been made to sit in the stands and watch as the world continues to fight its unseen enemy for exactly 34 days and still counting.

When is the Premier League likely to resume?

After a meeting between all 20 clubs on Friday, April 3, it was announced that the Premier League would not resume in early May as previously planned.

The situation is clearly evolving day-by-day, and it remains to be seen when the league will be able to get back underway. The Premier League remains determined to complete the current season and avoid it being written off completely.

A league statement read: “The Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

“The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops, and we work together through this very challenging time.

“The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.

“With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.

“However, any return to play will only be with the full support of Government and when medical guidance allows.”

Will the Premier League season be voided?

One very popular opinion amongst football lovers is the idea of voiding the current premier league season and declaring it as null and nonexistent and then waiting until the whole Coronavirus drama passes before starting a new season.

But guess what? There’s not a chance in heaven of that happening.

Not only will a cancellation send a wrong impression about the league’s management to the public, but it could also result in the league incurring losses up to £1billion, according to chief executive Richard Masters.

Sky, BT, and overseas rights holders have already paid the Premier League for their full season’s broadcast rights, despite a quarter of the campaign left to play.

So scrapping the campaign will mean broadcasters will look to recoup millions.

What else has the Premier League said?

As well as supporting the NHS and promoting public health messages, the Premier League detailed its discussions regarding its players and clubs in lower leagues.

The April 3 statement continued: “In the face of substantial and continuing losses for the 2019/20 season since the suspension of matches began, and to protect employees throughout the professional game, Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to consult their players regarding a combination of conditional reductions and deferrals amounting to 30 percent of total annual remuneration.

“This guidance will be kept under constant review as circumstances change.

It added: “Discussions also took place regarding financial relief for clubs in the short term, and while there is no single solution, measures are to be put in place to immediately deal with the impact of falling cash flow.

“Critically, the league unanimously voted to advance funds of £125 million to the EFL and National League as it is aware of the severe difficulties clubs throughout the football pyramid are suffering at this time.”

Sunderland fans show vocal support for Phil Parkinson following recent turnaround

Sunderland have struggled for much of the season but their form since Christmas has brought renewed hope back to the Stadium of Light, and the team now sit in sixth place in League One.

Jack Ross found himself out of a job after a poor start and the hangover effect from his tenure seemingly plagued Phil Parkinson and his squad, which he has only recently got rid of.

The 4-0 thrashing of second-place Wycombe shows the Black Cats can be a class above on their day, and that is thanks to the spirit and style that Parkinson has finally been able to implement.

He may still only have five wins from 18 games but supporters are beginning to understand his tactics and there is seemingly a strong belief in what he is trying to install at the club, as the six-match unbeaten run indicates that it is working well.

Supporters have acknowledged that they were perhaps a little too quick to judge the manager so harshly, as his key decisions have worked in the team’s favour.

That includes the move to a 5-2-3 formation which has seen Lynden Gooch and Chris Maguire thrive – the pair now have 21 goals and assists between them this season – whilst Aiden McGeady’s omission from the senior squad seems to have allowed a strong team spirit to manifest.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Some fans point to Parkinson improving players, most notably Maguire, who has now scored nine league goals after firing his side to victory over the Chairboys on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sunderland fans have also been discussing the potential signing of a prolific goalscorer currently playing in the Premier League.

Revealed: 57% of West Ham fans want Javier Hernandez to lead the line against Watford

[ad_pod ]

In-form West Ham United host Watford at the London Stadium on Saturday, looking to extend their winning streak to five consecutive Premier League matches.

The Hammers will have to be at their best to overcome the Hornets though, and Manuel Pellegrini will need his attacking contingent to be at the top of their game.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

It is a rare occasion for the Chilean coach heading into this match, as he has all four of his senior strikers available for selection. Whilst this is a good thing though, it does present the former Manchester City boss with something of dilemma.

Marko Arnautovic began the campaign as first choice and it wouldn’t be surprising if he returned to the starting XI this weekend. However, the form of Javier Hernandez in the 77-cap Austria international’s absence means that the 30-year-old former Manchester United forward deserves to retain his place.

The Irons’ No. 9, Andy Carroll, may be fit again, but like summer signing Lucas Perez, he doesn’t seem to be in Pellegrini’s immediate plans.

West Ham fans certainly seem to agree that the 105-cap Mexican veteran ought to retain his place. Of those who took part in our recent poll, 57% voted for Hernandez to start, whilst 29-year-old Arnautovic amassed just 24%. See the full results below.

Max Gradel and James Forrest would thrill Celtic fans for years

Celtic fans will be delighted to see James Forrest put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.

The Scottish champions have been in talks to extend the 27-year-old’s deal which was set to expire at the end of the season. After several weeks of negotiations, Forrest has penned a four-year deal to keep him with the Hoops until the summer of 2022.

The news will be a welcome boost to Celtic fans during a difficult season so far. The Bhoys were knocked out of the Champions League and are already behind in the race for the Scottish title. Brendan Rodgers should be actively scouting potential players to improve their fortunes in the January transfer window.

One man they should be keeping tabs on is Toulouse winger – Max Gradel. Valued at £6.75m by Transfermarkt, the Ivorian was once considered one of the brightest talents in world football after making a name of himself at Leeds United before joining Saint-Etienne. After making over 100 appearances for the French side, he eventually moved to Bournemouth but was later sold to Toulouse after failing to break into the first-team.

Since moving back to France, Gradel has rediscovered his goal scoring touch. The 30-year-old has found the back of the net three times as well as registering two assists in his opening seven appearances in Ligue 1. Should his form continue, Rodgers should be looking to bring him to Celtic Park.

Gradel possesses blistering pace and excellent dribbling ability – he would add another dimension to the Hoops attack. Potentially available at a great price, this move should be one to watch.

Celtic fans, thoughts?

Goncalo Guedes is not a player Arsenal need

Arsenal have contacted Paris Saint-Germain about the availability of Goncalo Guedes, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

What’s the word?

The report states that Inter Milan are also interested in the 21-year-old, while Valencia, who had Guedes on loan last season, are keen on a permanent move.

The Portugal international, who has earned 14 caps for his country, is believed to be keen to return to Valencia, but the Spanish outfit are yet to hear back from PSG.

Arsenal have reportedly entered the race, and perhaps that is because of the manager’s connection to the French club.

Unai Emery spent two years at Parc des Princes before getting sacked, and it appears that he is keen to swipe a player from his former club.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”267843″ player=”12034″ title=”Five crazy stats from the World Cup last 16″]

Is Guedes good enough?

During the 2017-18 campaign, the left winger had a decent loan spell at Valencia, scoring six goals and creating 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.

At the World Cup, though, it was a different story as he struggled to make a significant impact before Portugal were dumped out of the tournament at the last-16 stage in Russia.

Guedes featured in all four matches, and his only contribution was a single assist.

Arsenal are not crying out for a new winger, so if Emery wants to bolster that side of the pitch, then he should only be targeting top-class talent.

No disrespect to Guedes, but he is not quite at the level that the Gunners’ require, particularly in a position that they do not need to strengthen.

Everton fans react as club launches M’Baye Niang bid

According to reports on Italian website Calciomercato.com, Everton have launched an €18m (approximately £15.8m) offer for AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang.

Toffees director of football Steve Walsh was spotted in Milan on Wednesday by Italian Sky Sport reporter Gianluca Di Marzio according to his Twitter account, adding further fuel to the fire.

Ronald Koeman is looking to strengthen his squad this summer and is particularly keen to sign new forward players considering he has already lost Arouna Kone and Enner Valencia, and with doubts remaining over the future of Romelu Lukaku.

Now the Dutchman is said to have submitted a bid for Niang, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Premier League rivals Watford, scoring two goals and providing a further two assists in 16 appearances.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and many were far from impressed as they don’t believe the striker is good enough.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Manchester United 2-1 Middlesbrough: Five Talking Points

Manchester United edged Middlesbrough by a narrow margin yesterday as they mustered a dramatic comeback late in the second half.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic thought that he had given his team the lead in the first half but his goal was disallowed by referee Lee Mason for dangerous play. Manchester United continued to dominate the match with Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all missing gilt-edged chances.

United were soon made to pay for their profligacy when Grant Leadbitter found the back of the net to give Middlesbrough the lead at Old Trafford. However, The Red Devils poured men forward towards the end of the match and mustered a brilliant comeback. They scored two goals in the space of two minutes and got a well-deserved victory – stretching their winning win in the Premier League to five games.

Let’s take a look at five things that we learnt from the New Year’s Eve affair…

1. Anthony Martial Is Back To His Amazing Best

Anthony Martial was simply phenomenal against Middlesbrough. He gave the Boro defence – Calum Chambers in particular – all sorts of problems through his direct running, dribbling and superb crossing. He left Chambers chasing shadows throughout the match.

He struck the post with a long-range effort in the first half and delivered a couple of brilliant crosses into the box. He was rewarded for his sensational performance with a late goal.

Defenders Beware… Martial is back!

2. Referee Lee Mason Made Poor Decisions

Lee Mason had a mixed game at Old Trafford as he made a number of poor decisions throughout the match. He ruled out Ibrahimovic’s first half goal, insisting that Ibra had made contact with the goalkeeper before scoring. However, replays showed that Ibrahimovic made no contact with Victor Valdez before scoring. This led to round of boos from the home fans.

He also refused to award a penalty when Rashford was knocked down by Bernardo right in the 18-yard box.

3. Adama Traore Has Got Speed!

Good grief, Traore has got some pace about him. He breezed past Blind on numerous occasions and the Dutchman just could not contain him. Middlesbrough’s game plan was simply to clear the ball into open space as soon as they received it, so that Traore could use his speed to beat the Man United backline to the ball.

This tactic worked really well for them as Traore created a couple of chances for the visitors.

4. Man United Struggling To Get Goals

We have seen so often this season that creating chances is not a problem for Man United. The main problem is to find the back of the net from these chances.

The Red Devils created many against Middlesbrough but they just couldn’t score until the 85th minute.

Manchester United have managed the same amount of goals as relegation-threatened Crystal Palace this season, just 29.

5. Pogba and Ibrahimovic Combine Again

The Pogba-Ibrahimovic partnership has been instrumental in Man United’s recent upturn in form and they showed their continued importance against Boro when Pogba’s long ball was flicked on by Ibrahimovic for Martial to score United’s equaliser.

Pogba also created a superb chance for Ibrahimovic early in the second half, only for Victor Valdez to deny the big Swede.
