Australia’s World Test Championship and ODI World Cup defences will be shown exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming platform has secured the broadcast rights in Australia for all men’s and women’s International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments.Foxtel/Kayo broadcast the entire recent ODI World Cup, while the Nine Network screened Australia’s games and a handful of others. But under this new deal there will be no free-to-air element. In Australia men’s home Tests and all women’s internationals remain on free-to-air with Seven, but men’s white-ball internationals are with Foxtel. Men’s away Ashes series in 2027 and 2031 will be shown on the Nine Network. The move comes just days after the federal government reaffirmed its commitment to sport anti-siphoning measures.Communications minister Michelle Rowland last week introduced laws to parliament updating anti-siphoning measures that would require free-to-air services to be offered first refusal for important sporting events.”All Australians regardless of where they live, or what they earn, should have the opportunity to enjoy free TV coverage of iconic sporting events,” Rowland said.ICC boss Geoff Allardice welcomed the partnership with Amazon.”We are very excited to be entering a new four-year partnership with Prime Video for ICC cricket rights in Australia,” he said in a statement. “The recently concluded men’s World Cup has highlighted the interest and passion for ICC events across the globe, and especially in Australia where cricket fans have enjoyed the recent success of their men’s and women’s teams.”We look forward to working with Prime Video Australia to provide an innovative coverage of world class cricket to more fans in Australia.”The new partnership between the ICC and Amazon, who also broadcast New Zealand’s home internationals into India, will begin in January with the men’s Under-19 World Cup with the first senior tournament being the men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA. Later in the year, Australia’s women will be involved in their T20 World Cup in Bangladesh during September and October.Meanwhile, Amazon also confirmed a third season of the documentary would be released in 2024 which will cover this year’s Ashes series in England which finished 2-2.”As a cricket fan, I couldn’t wait to see what happened when the unstoppable force of ‘BazBall’ batting came up against the best test bowling lineup in the world. The 2023 Ashes were the most closely contested and memorable of recent times, and I am delighted to be able to relive them along with our customers in Australia and around the world,” said Hushidar Kharas, head of Prime Video Australia and New Zealand. The first season of the followed the fallout of the 2019 ball-tampering scandal, while the second released last year followed the 2021-22 men’s Ashes and tours of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Lauren James has shared her candid thoughts on Chelsea’s managerial transition, applauding new boss Sonia Bompastor while honouring Emma Hayes' legacy. Hayes spent over a decade at the helm, guiding Chelsea Women through a golden era marked by relentless success and five consecutive Women’s Super League titles.

Replacing a figure as monumental as Hayes was never going to be an easy task. But Bompastor has already made her mark, claiming the League Cup in March and then securing Chelsea’s sixth straight WSL crown.

James, a key figure in Chelsea’s recent campaigns, admitted that adapting to Bompastor’s methods took time, but she’s grown to thrive under her guidance.

"It was hard at first but I got used to it and now I’m cool," James said to the . "Emma left Sonia with a top team and she built that winning culture Chelsea are known for."

While Hayes was known for her tactical sharpness and inspirational leadership, Bompastor’s competitive edge and intense approach have become defining traits of her early Chelsea tenure.

"Sonia is one of the most competitive people I’ve come across. It’s not just about football – whatever it is, she wants to beat you," James added. "That gets passed down in the dressing room and in training – always thinking about the next thing we can win."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Bompastor, Chelsea’s style has undergone noticeable tweaks. James highlighted the tactical shift towards a more aggressive pressing system and a heavier focus on off-the-ball responsibilities.
"She’s added more intensity to us. We have to press a lot more and use a different style of play," James said. "She’s added more to my game when I don’t have the ball. She’s pushed me because she’s quite demanding. She always wants more which helps you to be better."

Unfortunately for James, her personal progress was temporarily halted in early April when a hamstring injury ruled her out of Chelsea’s final stretch of the season. The timing was bitter, as she missed out on key WSL fixtures and the Blues’ FA Cup final triumph.

England are due to begin their defence of the European Championship in Switzerland in early July, and James is hopeful of playing a major role. Her presence would be a boost for the Lionesses.

England Under-21s player ratings vs Czechia: Elliot Anderson and Valentino Livramento dominate while Harvey Elliott gets on the scoresheet as Young Lions make perfect start to Euros title defence

Omari Hutchinson also caught the eye and Charlie Cresswell found the net for Lee Carsley's side as they began the group stages in confident fashion

England Under-21s made a perfect start to the defence of their European Championship crown as they ran out 3-1 winners over Czechia on Thursday. Harvey Elliott and Charlie Cresswell got themselves on the scoresheet for the Young Lions in what was a strong opening night for Lee Carsley's side.

Tino Livramento and Omari Hutchinson both had early efforts saved in Slovakia, though England goalkeeper James Beadle also had to be alert to tip Stepan Chapoulek's header over the crossbar. It was Elliott, though, who broke the deadlock with a low effort after Livramento's deflected cross was knocked into the Liverpool midfielder's path by James McAtee.

England doubled their lead early in the second half when Livramento skipped past the Czechia full-back and fired in a low cross that was diverted into his own net by goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, though Marseille forward Jonathan Rowe may have got a touch on its way through.

Czechia offered an immediate response as Daniel Fila headed in at the back post to half the deficit, but England regained control thereafter and secured a deserved victory when Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell headed in from a corner with 14 minutes remaining. Carsley's side will next be in action against Slovenia on Sunday, before rounding out their group-stage campaign against Germany next Wednesday.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    James Beadle (7/10):

Made two fine saves in the first half as England struggled to deal with set-pieces, while he showcased his excellent passing ability when the ball was at his feet. Had no chance with Czechia's goal.

    Archie Gray (6/10):

Grew into the game after being exposed defensively through the first quarter of the game. Carried the ball well and played the odd eye-catching pass.

    Charlie Cresswell (6/10):

Made himself available for the ball as England built from the back, but was a little lucky not to be punished for a couple of sloppy passes. Commanding header sealed victory.

    Jarell Quansah (6/10):

The more commanding of the centre-back duo, though he will be unhappy with how the Young Lions dealt with dead balls. Broke the lines with a couple of mazy dribbles in the second half.

    Tino Livramento (8/10):

Absolutely electric going forward from the very first minute. Played his part in the opener before his superb skill and low cross led to England's second. Was caught out at the back post for Czechia's goal, however.

    Midfield

    Harvey Elliott (7/10):

Had some nice moments drifting inside from the right to combine with McAtee, though couldn't quite unpick the lock with his passing. Strong finish to open the scoring.

    Alex Scott (6/10):

Faded in and out of the game, but put in plenty of hard yards off the ball when England lost possession while mostly keeping it simple in possession.

    Elliot Anderson (9/10):

Booked inside the first 20 seconds, but didn't let it faze him one bit. Was at the heart of everything for England, whether that was when he baited the press while facing his own goal or when spreading the ball in attack. Commanding in every sense.

    Omari Hutchinson (8/10):

Came close to opening the scoring early on and dazzled with his quick feet whenever he picked up possession. Almost opened the scoring early on, while his movement inside made him a nightmare to mark while opening space up for Livramento to overlap.

  • Getty Images

    Attack

    James McAtee (5/10):

Asked to help lead the line but looked more comfortable when he was able to drop into midfield or move out wide. Got the assist for Elliott's goal, but didn't offer enough otherwise.

    Jonathan Rowe (4/10):

Struggled to have much impact on the game before being replaced midway through the second half. Movement across the front post saw him rewarded, as his faint touch was enough to see him awarded England's second goal, but otherwise rarely got into the game.

    Subs & Manager

    Ethan Nwaneri (6/10):

Had a couple of chances to run at the Czechia defence and let them for dead. Was guilty of taking one too many risks in his own half at times.

    Jay Stansfield (5/10):

Gave England more presence up front and made a couple of good defensive interventions.

    Samuel Iling-Junior (5/10):

On following the third goal to help shore up the left-hand side.

    Tyler Morton (N/A):

    Replaced Anderson late on.

    Hayden Hackney (N/A):

On for the final seven minutes.

    Lee Carsley (7/10):

Chose not to select a natural striker and it showed at times. However, putting Livramento on the left to combine with Hutchinson was an inspired move, while he wasn't shy to use his bench. Solid start.

Chelsea "already" preparing bid to sign Liverpool "superstar" for Maresca

Chelsea are believed to be planning an offer to sign one Liverpool player ahead of the summer transfer window, amid claims that Enzo Maresca’s side could look to bolster their squad before the Club World Cup on June 14th.

Away from their chase for Champions League qualification and a Premier League top four place, BlueCo are believed to be making plans for the pre-CWC transfer window, which opens from June 1st to June 10th.

The Blues may have a battle on their hands trying to keep hold of one of their most important players…

Last week, the Premier League confirmed that the summer window would be split into two sections, with the early June version allowing both Chelsea and Man City to sign players before the CWC commences.

Chelsea are said to have laid “significant groundwork” over a deal for Liam Delap, and if all goes to plan, he could be signed from Ipswich Town before the CWC kicks off (Simon Phillips).

The tournament could yield £100 million for Chelsea if they manage to win it, leaving little wonder Stamford Bridge chiefs appear set to take it seriously.

A new striker of Delap’s ilk is just one of their many transfer goals for the summer, though. Despite their large backlog of goalkeepers, with Kepa Arrizabalaga out on loan at Bournemouth, Djordje Petrovic at Strasbourg and Mike Penders set to arrive from Genk in the summer, it is believed that they want another capable body in-between the sticks.

Petrovic has refused to rule out staying at Strasbourg next season, amid his very impressive spell in Ligue 1 on loan from Chelsea, so perhaps Liverpool star Caoimhin Kelleher could fill the Serbian’s spot.

The 26-year-old, rumoured to command a £40 million asking price moving into the next window, has seriously impressed as a very capable understudy to Alisson – leading to serious interest in his signature.

Chelsea "already" preparing £40m bid to sign Liverpool star Kelleher

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea are “already” preparing a £40m bid for Kelleher, but it won’t be an “easy” negotiation for the west Londoners considering Arne Slot’s side view him as a solid squad player and understudy for Alisson.

The Irishman has showcased true match-saving quality when given the chance, and he’s arguably very unlucky that such a big-name currently sits ahead of him in the Liverpool pecking order.

Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher and Virgil van Dijk

During Alisson’s spell out through injury earlier this season, the Republic of Ireland international was an absolute revelation, with Virgil van Dijk calling him “world-class” and TNT Sports pundit Steve McManaman branding Kelleher a “superstar”.

“Look at the goalkeeper [Kelleher],” McManaman said.

“He’s a superstar, isn’t he? Caoimhin Kelleher.

“He played more games last year than Alisson because of injuries, he’s done exactly the same this year. If you have the quality behind you – Trent Alexander-Arnold went off today and Conor Bradley seamlessly comes in – if you’ve got that, great.”

Rishi Patel, Wiaan Mulder hundreds steer Leicestershire to safety

Sussex unable to bowl out hosts for a second time having enforced follow on

Hundreds from Rishi Patel and Wiaan Mulder steered Leicestershire to a draw against Sussex after being asked to follow on, preserving their unbeaten record in Division Two of the LV= Insurance County Championship.Dismissed for 270 in reply to their opponents’ 430 late on Saturday evening, they were in early trouble at 65 for 4 as Sussex chased a second win of the season. But after Patel had made 100 from 157 balls, the third century of a season he began with none to his name, South Africa allrounder Mulder saw them to safety with an unbeaten 102 to go with his five wickets in the Sussex innings. He had valuable support from young allrounder Tom Scriven, who contributed 51 not out to a seventh-wicket stand worth an unbroken 99 in 23 overs before the teams shook hands on a draw with 20 overs unbowled and Leicestershire 135 runs in front.Sussex’s four-man seam attack had their moments, with 21-year-old Henry Crocombe looking sharp at times, but with Ari Karvelas and Brad Currie both making their first appearances of the season, they could not find the outstanding individual performance that was probably needed to fashion a victory, and missed two chances to dismiss Patel before he had reached fifty.Leicestershire had looked in danger of succumbing to the kind of rapid disintegration to which they were prone last year when a solid start to their follow-on was wrecked by the loss of four quick wickets midway through the morning session.Six without loss overnight, having failed by just 11 runs to meet the avoidance target on Saturday, they advanced to 48 without too many alarms in the first 40 minutes of play, dealing relatively comfortably with a new-ball attack of Karvelas and Currie. But after a major let-off when an edge offered by Patel on 27 was put down by third slip Tom Clark, the next eight overs saw them lose four wickets for nine runs, slipping from 56 without loss.Sol Budinger slashed Fynn Hudson-Prentice into the hands of the fielder at point, the opener getting a send-off from the Sussex fielders that seemed to prompt a warning from the umpires, and the opener was immediately followed back by captain Lewis Hill as Crocombe did enough to induce an edge to first slip Tom Alsop.Colin Ackermann, who scored 298 runs in his first four innings of the season but just 34 in his most recent five, faced 25 balls before he was leg before to Karvelas, getting only half forward, after which Currie claimed the wicket Sussex hoped would be key, delivering a beauty to pass Peter Handscomb’s defensive bat and hit the Australian’s off stump. With Leicestershire still 95 behind, Sussex tails were up, yet they missed another chance to dismiss Patel when he was dropped at first slip on 47 off Currie, who also had a strong appeal for leg before against him turned down in his next over. The home side were still up against it at lunch, 69 in arrears, yet there was always a suspicion that a Sussex attack lacking both Ollie Robinson and Nathan McAndrew might struggle to bowl Leicestershire out twice, especially in improving weather conditions and with their opponents concerned only with saving the game.Indeed, the two chances created but not taken against Patel began to look costly as the tall right-hander went on to complete a third century of a season in which only the Sussex captain, Cheteshwar Pujara, has more than his 517 runs in Division Two.It was by no means flawless, quite apart from the two drops, but on the occasions he made good contact with the ball it could go a long way without much obvious muscle behind it, witnessed in three sixes, one back over the head of Karvelas, another lofted over the leg-side boundary off Hudson-Prentice, the other over long-on off spinner James Coles. After reaching the milestone off 154 balls with his 16th four, Patel rather gave his wicket away, pushing at a ball from Currie in the same over that he had no need to play, giving first slip a comfortable catch. Nonetheless, his partnership with Mulder had added 122 runs, a sizeable stride towards safety.Yet when Rehan Ahmed was out three overs later, brilliantly caught by a diving Steve Smith at second slip off Crocombe, Leicestershire were vulnerable again, six down and just 36 in front, with still 43 overs remaining.Another setback in the 10 overs remaining before tea would have buoyed Sussex still further but in the end it was Leicestershire’s rediscovered resilience that prevailed.Mulder, who made 689 Championship runs last season but came into this match with a top score of 11 in six innings this year, followed his five first-innings wickets by regaining his touch with the bat and it was he as much as Patel who was the game-saver, facing 167 balls and going to his hundred with his 16th four, his 15th having come of the one over bowled by Smith.

Arsenal eye double-striker deal with "top priority" named alongside Watkins

Arsenal are plotting an ambitious double-striker move this summer, as Mikel Arteta’s side now aim to bring in two new centre-forwards to bolster their Premier League title hopes for next season.

Arsenal face Nottingham Forest after crushing West Ham defeat

Their 1-0 loss to West Ham last weekend all but ended their hopes of pipping Liverpool to the title this season, with Arteta now attempting to garner any sort of Gunners momentum in preparation for a Champions League challenge.

Arsenal take on Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flying Nottingham Forest side on Wednesday, knowing of the near-impossible task of catching Liverpool in the title race, but Arteta is keen for his side to finish 2024/2025 on a high domestically.

“It’s been incredibly satisfying to work every day with the players, the coaches and the staff to try to overcome certain situations,” said Arteta on Arsenal’s obstacles this season.

“If somebody tells you at the start of the season that by this time you will have played five times with a red card, over half an hour in each of them, and you have lost this amount of players, what’s the bet you are in the middle of the table at least, and you are out of the Champions League?

“But that’s not the situation, so that tells you the resilience, the resources and the ambition the team and that every individual has, and that time has probably been one of my proudest moments to work, in that sense. The problem is when you are there you want more and more. I’m not going to stop – over my dead body that we stop thinking that way and putting everything we possibly can to increase that probability of us winning, being better than the opponent and hitting that performance, those standards constantly, regardless of what happens.”

In the background, Arsenal are targeting new centre-forwards ahead of next season, coming as their serious shortage of attacking options right now exposes their lack of depth up front.

This was prevalent in their last match when they failed to break down a resolute West Ham side, minus both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, who are out with long-term injuries.

Arsenal plan double-striker signing with Sesko and Watkins targeted

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are planning to sign two strikers this summer, with RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko named as their “top priority” as they prepare a bid for Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

Sesko, who’s scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, has a gentlemen’s agreement to leave Leipzig either this summer or next year (Fabrizio Romano) – with the Slovenian’s contract also including a £65 million release clause – according to some reports.

Meanwhile, Villa are prepared to negotiate an exit for Watkins at around £60 million, as per David Ornstein, so Arsenal know the conditions of any potential deal for the aforementioned forward stars.

Arsenal star who Wenger sold for £18m is now outscoring Sesko & Martinelli

The atmosphere around Arsenal at the moment is mixed.

Mikel Arteta’s side put in a barnstorming performance against defending Premier League champions Manchester City on the weekend and, in turn, have given their fans hope that they might be able to overturn their two-goal deficit away to Newcastle United in the League Cup tonight.

However, off the pitch, things are less than rosy as the board failed to make a single addition to the first team in the winter transfer window despite desperately needing attacking reinforcements following the injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.

What might make the situation harder for fans to take is that the club were linked with a plethora of incredibly talented players, including Benjamin Šeško, and the fact that one of their former stars has outscored the Slovenian marksman as well as some of their current forward players, such as Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal's need for a striker

It was no secret that during the summer transfer window, Arsenal needed at least one attacking signing, as the only intentional additions to the frontline made under Arteta’s tenure have been Jesus and Leandro Trossard, with Kai Havertz initially joining as a midfielder.

We’ve seen how this lack of firepower has affected the team this season, with the German being the only player to reach double figures for goals in the squad, while the injured Saka sits on nine and Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Martinelli are all on seven.

So, when the links to Šeško returned in full force last month, there was some excitement that the club would finally bring in another seriously dangerous striker with the skills and ability to rack up goals for fun.

For example, in just 29 appearances this season, the Radeče-born sensation has scored 14 goals and provided three assists, which might not sound incredible when you consider Havertz has scored 15 goals, but when you account for the fact he’s putting up these numbers at just 21 years old, it really is.

Moreover, the 6 foot 5 titan has been a force of nature for the national team, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists in just 39 senior caps, the first of which he won at 18.

In short, Šeško is a player who could’ve helped fire Arsenal to some kind of glory this season, be that in the league, Champions League or League Cup, yet a player sold by the club seven years ago managed to score more goals than him and Martinelli in his last full season.

The former Arsenal star outscoring Šeško

So, to get straight to the point, the former Arsenal star in question is Olivier Giroud, who joined the club in the summer of 2012 for just £12m from Ligue 1 side Montpellier.

olivier-giroud-transfer-gossip-arsenal-edu-arteta-elye-wahi-montpellier

Throughout the next five and a half years, the French marksman made 253 appearances for the North Londoners, scoring 105 goals, providing 37 assists and winning three FA Cups and three Community Shields.

However, in January 2018, he made a surprise £18m move to Chelsea – which allowed Arsène Wenger to bring in Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang – and in 119 appearances for the Blues, would score 39 goals, provide 14 assists, win another FA Cup and pick up a Champions League medal for good measure.

Not quite content with that, the “outstanding” marksman, as dubbed by former professional Danny Mills, would make another significant move in July 2021, this time to Italian giants AC Milan, where he’d play a crucial role in their 2021/22 Scudetto triumph and rack up an impressive haul of 49 goals and 20 assists in 132 appearances.

The Chambéry-born poacher left the San Siro last summer to join MLS side LAFC, and as he did so in the midst of their 2024 season, his tally across his final campaign with the Rosseneri and his first in Los Angeles was greater than Šeško’s so far this season.

For example, he scored 19 goals and provided ten assists in 66 games, totalling just 4428 minutes, so while the former Gooner averaged a goal involvement every 2.27 appearances, he also averaged one every 152.68 minutes, which is undeniably impressive for a 38-year-old centre-forward.

Ultimately, Arsenal were probably right to move Giroud on when they did, as Aubameyang came in and blew teams away for a few years, but we’re sure Arteta would love to have someone like him in the squad today.

With that said, the club should also do all they can to sign Šeško in the summer, as his record is unreal for someone his age, and there is every chance he could develop into twice the striker the Frenchman was for the Gunners.
