A temporada 2016 mal começou para o Fluminense, mas a situação do técnico Eduardo Baptista já não é tão confortável à frente da equipe. Sem nenhuma vitória em três jogos disputados entre Flórida Cup e Primeira Liga, o treinador soma apenas 33,3% de aproveitamento como comandante tricolor. Desde que assumiu a equipe, no último trimestre de 2015, foram apenas cinco vitórias, quatro empates e dez derrotas.

A situação, porém, não parece preocupar tanto o treinador, que destacou uma evolução do time nos primeiros trabalhos da temporada, e espera manter a base para que a equipe alcance, o mais rápido possível, o entrosamento necessário.

– Estamos trabalhando para dar continuidade, montamos uma grande equipe, tivemos uma resposta boa. Se faz o pênalti, muda o jogo, fica 2 a 1, ficaria tudo bem, mas o futebol é assim. Temos de ter tranquilidade, e não é por causa de um resultado que tem que mudar tudo. O time tem atuado bem – lembrou o treinador, que não deve mexer na equipe para o jogo contra o Volta Redonda:

– Temos de dar sequência, quanto menos mexer, melhor. O time não teve uma performance ruim, faltou finalizações. Tem que pontuar, mas não deve mudar muito…

A última vez que Eduardo Baptista comemorou um triunfo foi há mais de dois meses, no dia 22 de novembro, quando o Tricolor venceu o Avaí, por 3 a 1, no Estádio Kleber Andrade. Por coincidência, foi a última vez que Fred balançou as redes.

Eduardo Baptista chegou ao Fluminense após bom trabalho diante do Sport, substituindo o demitido Enderson Moreira, que não teve bons resultados na segunda passagem dele pelo Tricolor das Laranjeiras. Enderson comandou a equipe em 26 oportunidades – entre Campeonato Brasileiro e Copa do Brasil –, com 11 vitórias, quatro empates e outras 11 derrotas. Na ocasião, o treinador somou um aproveitamento de 34,2%.

Uma vitória contra o Volta Redonda, na estreia do Tricolor no Campeonato Carioca, pode deixar a vida do treinador um pouco mais tranquila neste início de temporada. A torcida agradece!

Manchester United teammates Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba helped France to a 1-0 victory over Portugal that sent the world champions through to the Nations League finals for the first time at the expense of Bruno Fernandes.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have been secretly pleased to see the Portuguese magnifico steal the show with a fine individual display during the international defeat.

Despite Fernandes’ best attempts to make the magic happen, the Red Devils have been affected by an inconsistent start to the season, which has seen repeated calls for Solskjaer’s sacking, amid reports that Pogba is unhappy at Old Trafford, among other things.

Portugal, who were unbeaten in their past six games prior to the fixture with France, suffered a rare defeat. Whilst Joao Felix struggled, his older international teammate shined.

Per SofaScore, the 26-year-old dynamo received a high statistical score of 7.3 for his efforts – he made four key passes, which is more than any other player on the pitch managed including Pogba, took 62 touches of the ball, registered 32 out of 46 passes (70%), won two out of four ground duels in total, took one shot on target and completed three out of six accurate crosses, as well as being fouled twice, whilst he made one tackle and one interception, which implies that he also contributed defensively as well.

Squawka gave Fernandes, who earns £180,000-a-week according to Spotrac, a solid grade of 7/10, which was a higher rating than Cristiano Ronaldo received, whilst The Hard Tackle went a fraction below, claiming he was ‘the most creative player on the pitch, Bruno Fernandes played as many as 4 key passes while coming close with an effort of his own’ whilst he ‘put in a shift defensively as well.’

Recently described as an “exceptional” talent by talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair, the Portugal international hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down anytime soon, as he has scored five goals and supplied three assists in seven games in the Premier League so far this season, whilst he is averaging 2.9 shots and 2.9 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

By comparison, even Pogba is only managing 1.7 shots and 0.3 key passes per league game, as per WhoScored.

At a time when he faces constant scrutiny from fans and pundits alike, Solskjaer will be delighted to see Fernandes fully firing on all cylinders. Now he will be hoping he can continue his fine form for club and country after the international break.

Southampton were one of several Premier League sides to be linked with a move for Hellas Verona goalkeeper Marco Silverstri earlier this year and they may now be regretting not signing him.

The Saints, Norwich City and Everton were all linked with a move for the former Leeds United man by TuttoMercatoWeb but the 29-year-old ended up staying with the Serie A club.

The shot-stopper enjoyed a very solid season in Italy’s top-flight last time out, as he conceded just 43 goals in 35 games, keeping nine clean sheets (per Transfermarkt).

This would help Hellas Verona secure an impressive ninth-placed finish in their first season back in the top-flight following promotion from Serie B.

The ‘keeper has started this season in arguably even more impressive form, having kept three clean sheets in their first seven fixtures, conceding just five goals (per Transfermarkt).

Whilst Alex McCarthy has impressed for Southampton this season, keeping four clean sheets in eight games, having Silverstri as a back-up could have been useful to Hasenhuttl, especially with the recent news on both of his back-up goalkeepers.

Angus Gunn has sustained an injury on loan with Stoke City, whilst Fraser Forster has been linked with a move back to Celtic, where he spent last year on loan. If Hasenhuttl isn’t careful, he could find himself without a back-up to McCarthy by the time the January transfer window comes around.

When making an appearance for Verona last back in 2018, TuttoMercatoWeb awarded the ‘keeper a 6.5 rating for his display despite a 3-0 loss against Benevento and suggested that he was “miraculous on several occasions” and that he could do nothing about any of the goals.

Considering Silvestri has now established himself as a first-team regular at Verona, and has earned himself a superb 7.2 rating for his performances in Serie A this season, it could definitely be argued that Southampton may be regretting not signing the £5.4 million-rated shot-stopper, particularly if Forster ends up departing in January.

According to a report by the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offload both Juan Foyth and Ryan Sessegnon as the club and Daniel Levy pursue Milan Skriniar, with the Lilywhites duo chosen to make way as negotiations continue to unfold. 

Indeed, the Inter Milan star is apparently top of Jose Mourinho’s wish list as Spurs continue their desperate bid to sign a much-needed centre-back, but Mirror journalist John Cross reported that both clubs are still miles apart in terms of valuation.

The Serie A giants value Skriniar at around £50m and Levy is apparently unwilling to go that high, with recent reports claiming that Spurs are even considering the possibility of swapping Tanguy Ndombele in an effort to lower the price (TUTTOmercatoWEB via Sport Witness).

Cross has now claimed that the two clubs are still some way off completing a deal, as supported by Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who claims that a decision will be ‘made soon’.

In an effort to recuperate funds and invest in a potential deal for the Slovakian colossus, it appears that both Foyth and Sessegnon could be sacrificed (the latter on loan) to make space, as per this latest update.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein recently hinted that Tottenham need to sell before they can buy again, with Serge Aurier, Danny Rose and Paulo Gazzaniga being other names on the chopping block.

Lauded as ‘incredible’, the 31-cap Slovakia international certainly has a few admirers and could be worth the investment, especially considering that Spurs let club legend Jan Vertonghen leave on a free transfer with no adequate replacement.

Newcastle United are set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Federico Chiesa in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to La Nazione (via Sport Witness).

As per the outlet, the Fiorentina ace may move away from Italy for a fee of at least €60m, which equates to around £53.7m.

However, there is not yet an indication as to just how much the Tyneside club are willing to put on the table, but La Nazione believe that they will overtake the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus for his signature.

This is pending the proposed takeover in the northeast, though, as the Premier League are yet to approve of the £300m deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group.

Chiesa is enjoying a relatively impressive 2019/20 season so far, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 30 games in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Comparing the Fiorentina winger to the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie in their respective domestic leagues so far in this campaign, Chiesa has netted the most strikes as well as averaging more shots in Serie A (per Whoscored).

The 22-year old could prove to be a valuable addition at St James’ Park if he moves to Newcastle and can replicate his Serie A form in English football, but the potentially extortionate price tag would arguably put a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

Nevertheless, if the Magpies can beat the likes of Manchester United, Inter and Juventus for his services, then it promises to be a real coup for the Toon Army.

As datas para os jogos das semifinais do Campeonato Pernambucano foram divulgadas nesta segunda-feira pela Federação Pernambucana de Futebol (FPF). As partidas de ida acontecerão nos dias 20 e 21 de abril. Já as de volta, no dia próximo dia 24.

O primeiro confronto entre Santa Cruz e Náutico acontece no dia 20 de abril, uma quarta-feira, às 21h45, no Arruda. Já Sport e Salgueiro medem forças pela primeira vez por uma vaga na final da competição de 2016 no dia 21, às 16h, na Ilha do Retiro.

A federação colocou o jogo do Leão em outra data propositalmente, para evitar dois jogos paralelamente em Recife. E o jogo contra o Salgueiro foi marcado para às 16h porque cai no Dia de Tiradentes (feriado nacional).

Os jogos de volta serão na mesma data e horário: 24 de abril, às 16h. O Náutico encara o Santa Cruz na Arena Pernambuco. Já o Salgueiro vai pegar o Leão no estádio Cornélio de Barros, no Sertão pernambucano.
