CSA bent their quota rules after a last-minute injury to a black African player meant the Lions could not meet the stipulated guidelines that compel every franchise to field at least six players of colour, of whom three must be black African, in every XI.Legspinner Eddie Leie, one of the Lions’ three black Africans, was ruled out after sustaining a niggle during the warm-ups ahead of their match against the Titans in Centurion. The Lions had only travelled with 12 players, and their reserve was Rassie van der Dussen, an opening batsman who is white.The Lions had to contact CSA to explain van der Dussen’s inclusion before naming him in the team. “We cleared it with all the relevant CSA officials and they had full understanding for the situation,” a Lions’ insider told ESPNcricinfo.Had CSA not given their permission, Lions’ coach Geoffrey Toyana. who is black African, was ready to make a comeback to fulfill the selection criteria. Toyana, also a batsman, has not played competitively since his retirement in 2011 but has 84 first-class matches and 71 List A games to his name.As luck would have it, Toyana did make an appearance when his team lost bowler Carmi le Roux to a hamstring niggle. Toyana fielded until the Lions were able to get a replacement from the spectator’s banks. William Wentzel, a student at the Sport School of Excellence Academy in Pretoria, was watching the match with his friends when they were approached to provide their best fielder. Wentzel, who is white, wore Leie’s kit while on the field.In a rain-affected game, the Lions had the Titans 240 for 6 after 35 overs and were 74 for 1 after 10.1 overs in their reply when no further play was possible.

Vitor Bueno, substituído durante o duelo com o Fluminense por conta de dores na coxa direita, treino sem restrições nesta manhã com o restante do elenco. O meia está confirmado como um dos relacionados após realizar exame de imagem na última sexta-feira, que não apontou lesão no local. Caso seja preservado, Bueno daria lugar a Alexandre Pato no ataque. Igor Gomes, que cumpriu suspensão na 31ª rodada, reforça a equipe titular de Diniz.

Dessa forma, o treinador são-paulino tem quase todo o seu grupo à disposição, com exceção de Everton e Rojas, que permanecem sob os cuidados do Reffis para tratar lesões no joelho. UAE’s decision to bat seemed a bit like someone doing away with the veggies so they could get to the meat quicker. All their captain Amjad Javed hoped for was “120 to 130” runs; they got 129. Pakistan tried to sink their teeth into the target and suddenly found it was more than they could chew. The top three fell by the time the fourth over of the chase began, but Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal buckled down and took Pakistan to a seven-wicket victory in Mirpur.While that margin indicates it was all hunky dory, Javed’s new-ball burst and the way he could rally his team together had given UAE a strong chance to record their first victory against a Full Member. He took three wickets off his first seven balls to make his team believe, and then made sure they did not waver by slinging his arm around every one of his bowlers while he was at the top of his run-up and clapping his hands until they stung.Pakistan were 17 for 3 when Akmal and Malik got together. They recognised the momentum was with UAE, but knew they could turn it around. They just had to bide their time, to keep their wickets intact and take the chase deep so that the ball wouldn’t be swinging and their experience could trump UAE’s adrenaline. The first boundary of their fourth-wicket partnership came off the 15th ball and the next one came off the 31st but overhauling a target of 130 doesn’t take pyrotechnics. Just patience.There was a moment when UAE could have stormed back. With 40 runs to win from 26 balls, Malik dragged a Mohammad Shahzad bouncer from outside off and the resulting top-edge seemed destined for deep square leg’s hands but Usman Mushtaq, who was brought into the XI in place of Saqlain Haider, dropped it. Malik reached his fifty with a four and a six off the next two balls he faced and along with Akmal sealed Pakistan’s victory with their unbeaten 114-run partnership.Javed was in uproar when the catch went down. He could have had a match-winning three-wicket haul after all. He dismissed Sharjeel Khan lbw, but replays showed the ball would have climbed over the stumps. Two balls later, Khurram Manzoor was caught behind playing an unwise cut against a rising ball that didn’t give him the requisite room to free his arms.Javed’s final wicket of the night though came about because of the room he offered to the batsman. Mohammad Hafeez thought he had an easy put away through the covers but failed to keep his drive down much to the glee of one of UAE’s best fielder Fahad Tariq. The one over he saved for the death turned out to be dreadful as Malik and Akmal caned 23 off it to pull ahead.That Pakistan would need to huff and puff a bit had not seemed likely when they had UAE at 12 for 3 in four overs. Mohammad Amir was in the thick of things again, bowling a first over that went for only one run and following up with a second that had five dot balls and an indipper that squeezed through Muhammad Kaleem’s limp defences. At the other end, Mohammad Sami made Rohan Mustafa pay for driving on the up by summoning some extra bounce. The batsman spooned a simple catch to mid-off and extra bounce from the seven-foot tall Mohammad Irfan accounted for Mohammad Shahzad.Pakistan were barely at full throttle. They even rested their fastest bowler Wahab Riaz to give left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz an international debut. But the rest stacked enough balls around middle and off stump to capitalise on the batsmen’s mistakes.Shaiman Anwar stuck it out for 46 off 42 balls, but he may have been helped by Pakistan resorting to spin soon after the Powerplay. Shahid Afridi brought himself on, at the other end came Nawaz and UAE found some relief. They were 20 for 3 and going nowhere, but seven overs of slow bowling got them to 70 for 4. Anwar even took Afridi for a hat-trick of fours – a cut right through the point fielder, a beautiful loft over extra cover and a superbly-timed sweep. Lucky over 13 yielded 17 runs, the most UAE have scored in one over against a Full Member in T20Is.There had been plenty of plays and misses because the UAE batsmen had not faced quick bowlers of this quality. At the 2015 World Cup, then captain Mohammad Tauqir had been shocked at the South Africa quicks roughing up their batsmen with bouncers. Here too, the company of Amir, Irfan and Sami were outclassing them. Amir had 21 dot balls out of 24, Irfan and Sami had 15 apiece.Still, UAE went down swinging in their death overs as edges and mis-hits flew to the boundary to get a total that gave them a chance. But once again, they couldn’t seal the deal and are now out of the Asia Cup.

New Zealand completed the group stage of the World T20 with a clean slate, and in some style. Signature style too, as they adjusted themselves to a slow and low pitch. An example of that was how their total of 145 for 8 was more than double of what Bangladesh could manage.Kane Williamson’s crew were playing in their fourth venue, but looked right at home. They picked three spinners on a “very dry surface” and their batsmen were careful not to overreach. The way Colin Munro, essentially selected to slog, spent a majority of his innings without even trying to find the boundary was a clear indication of how well the New Zealand management have assisted the eleven men out on the field. His 35 off 33 balls helped navigate the middle overs after Williamson had led them to a strong start with 42 off 32 balls.The eleven men under Mashrafe Mortaza though played like they were dying to catch the 30-minute flight from Kolkata back home to Dhaka. They did have the batting to threaten New Zealand and make sure Mustafizur Rahman’s maiden T20I five-for was match-winning, but slow cutters from Grant Elliott and the legspin of Ish Sodhi bundled them out for 70 in 15.4 overs. It was Bangladesh’s lowest total in the format.Tamim Iqbal’s run-out chasing an imaginary single in the second over was almost an omen of the events that would follow. They managed three fours in the fifth over – one off Sabbir Rahman’s straight bat, one off his pads and one when Mohammad Mithun waited nicely for a late cut. But such prudent shot selection was a rare sight among the Bangladesh batsmen.Mithun went for a slog in the very next over and was bowled by a slower ball from Mitchell McClenaghan. Shakib Al Hasan went for the big shot too early in his innings and holed out at long-on. It was only the seventh ball he faced. In comparison, Munro, a man with far less experience, did not even look to strike a boundary until his 25th ball in the 14th over of the innings.There were instances of brilliance that Bangladesh’s batsmen couldn’t have fought against. Luke Ronchi effected a fine stumping, weathering extra bounce, after a legspinner from Sodhi had beaten Soumya Sarkar’s sweep shot. Then came an unplayable ball. Grant Elliott bowled a simple little legcutter that whisked past Mustfiqur Rahim’s outside edge and hit his off-stump. Even the bowler was surprised by the amount of deviation he got.After 11 minutes of respite when one of the light towers at the Eden Gardens malfunctioned, Mahmudullah fell to Sodhi’s googly to make it 48 for 7. After adding 12 runs with Shuvagata Hom, Mashrafe Mortaza was given leg-before to Elliott in the 15th over though all three of his stumps could be seen, and replays confirmed that it would have missed the leg stump.Prior to that bit of bad luck during a bad batting collapse, Mustafizur and his bewildering offcutters had held sway. He became only the second Bangladeshi bowler to take a T20I five-for; the other being Elias Sunny who took 5 for 13 against Ireland in his T20I debut in 2012.Williamson was coping well with a tired Kolkata pitch – it was the third game played on it – but Mustafizur outfoxed him. The batsman felt the need to do something extravagant – the lap sweep – to put the bowler off. The fact that 20-year old Mustafizur still bowled his cutter full and straight to knock over the off stump points to his composure.New Zealand went through two periods, 20 balls (between overs 5.0 and 8.2) and 26 balls (between overs 8.4 and 13) without boundaries. Munro moved slowly to 17 off 24 balls, during which he survived a plumb lbw appeal against Shakib, before finally opening up. He hit a four and two sixes in seven balls before Al-Amin Hossain bowled him for 35 in the 15th over.Taylor, who eventually made 28 off 24 balls, was dropped on nine by Al-Amin at the square-leg boundary. Chances like that kept coming in the final five overs – New Zealand lost five wickets and Mustafizur was even on a hat-trick in the 20th over – but the batsmen still came up with 46 runs to put up a total that proved quite safe because they had done their homework.

Durante o desembarque ao Estádio Nilton Santos, neste sábado, para a partida da 36ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro, os atletas relacionados para o duelo diante do Colorado tiveram contato com Carlos Augusto Montenegro, ex-presidente do Glorioso.

O atual sócio benemérito marcou presença em uma partida depois de um longo tempo sem aparecer no Nilton Santos. Sua chegada foi comemorada por muitos dirigentes que estavam presentes no local onde os jogadores desembarcam. Além de Montenegro, Nelson Mufarrej, presidente do Botafogo, e Ricardo Rotenberg, vice-presidente de futebol, também falaram com cada atleta antes deles irem aos vestiários.

Montenegro abraçou e falou com praticamente todos os jogadores. Quando João Paulo, o ex-presidente fez questão de perguntar ao meio-campista se ele não estava sentindo dores no cotovelo, região que havia machucado no duelo contra a Chapecoense, na última quarta-feira. O executivo também falou de forma mais calorosa com Alberto Valentim, Joel Carli e Diego Souza.

O clima entre os dirigentes do Botafogo era mais leve. Além das duas vitórias seguidas no Campeonato Brasileiro e a possibilidade de se livrar, de vez, da possibilidade de rebaixamento, os salários dos meses de setembro e outubro foram quitados antes do duelo contra a equipe gaúcha.

O final de semana foi de definições para o Corinthians na Libertadores. No último sábado (28), o duelo que decidirá o adversário do Corinthians na segunda fase da Conmebol Libertadores ficou definido.

O adversário sairá do confronto entre Guarani (PAR), algoz do Timão na Liberta de 2015, e San José (BOL). Vale lembrar que o San José é a mesma equipe que o Timão enfrentou na partida que ficou marcada pela morte do garoto Kevin Espada, de 14 anos, em 2013.

Vale lembrar que, após protestos políticos adiarem algumas rodadas do Campeonato Boliviano, a competição acabou na noite de sábado e definiu os representantes do país na Copa Libertadores e na Copa Sul-Americana.

Lá, o campeonato é dividido em dois: o Apertura e o Clausura. Como o Bolívar venceu o Apertura, e o Jorge Wilstermann ganhou o Clausura, os dois se classificaram diretamente a fase de grupos da Libertadores. O San José terminou na quarta colocação, e portanto, irá jogar a primeira fase da Libertadores.

Já o Guarani terminou na quarta colocação do Campeonato Paraguaio, e por conta disso, também jogará a fase preliminar. O único paraguaio classificado direto a fase de grupos foi o Olímpia, que conquistou o título.

O Alvinegro jogará sua primeira partida fora de casa, no Paraguai ou na Bolívia, no dia 05 de fevereiro, às 21h30. O jogo de volta será na Arena Corinthians, no dia 12 de fevereiro, no mesmo horário.

Para avançar à fase de grupos, o Timão precisará passar por mais um duelo eliminatório e já sabe que terá pelo caminho Cerro Largo-URU ou Palestino-CHI.

Se tiver sucesso nas fases preliminares, o Alvinegro entrará no grupo B da Conmebol Libertadores, ao lado de Palmeiras-BRA, Bolívar-BOL e Tigre-ARG. Campeão invicto em 2012, essa será a 15ª participação do Alvinegro no torneio continental de clubes.

Welington, Fasson, Patryck, Talles Costa e Juan, inscritos na Copinha deste ano, estiveram na delegação da equipe profissional para o jogo contra o CSA, na última rodada do Brasileirão. Juan, inclusive, foi titular e contou ao LANCE! sobre a surpresa com o chamado de Fernando Diniz.

O São Paulo buscará o pentacampeonato – foi campeão em1993, 2000, 2010 e 2019.O primeiro jogo será às 16h do dia 4 de janeiro, contra o Operário-PR, no estádio 1º de Maio, em São Bernardo do Campo, sede do grupo 29. São Bernardo e Palmeira-RN completam o grupo.
