Faulkner and Mitchell Starc have been included for the final Test while Usman Khawaja and Jackson Bird have been dropped, and the batting order will be reshuffled to feature Shane Watson at No.3 and Brad Haddin at No.6.The inclusion of Starc was expected but the naming of Faulkner was a major surprise given that it is Australia’s batting that has been their biggest issue on this tour. Faulkner has scored 111 runs in the tour matches and has been dismissed only once, but there is no question that his bowling is his stronger suit: in 37 first-class matches, he has made eight half-centuries and is yet to register a hundred, but has 132 wickets at 22.87.Faulkner will become the 17th player used by the Australians in this Ashes series, leaving backup wicketkeeper Matthew Wade as the only squad member not to have played a Test on the trip. I think he’s the right character for this team and I think you’ll have a good opportunity to see just how much talent he’s got in this Test match.”Faulkner will provide the Australians with a fifth seam-bowling option at The Oval, while Watson will be available to bowl despite picking up a groin injury during the Chester-le-Street Test. Watson’s move to first drop will mean on this Ashes tour he has occupied the opening role, No.4 and No.6, and this year he will have batted in every position in the top six.”Shane will be able to bowl,” Clarke said. “Shane will certainly play that allrounder role once again. But I think it’s an extra string to James’ bow that he can bowl as many overs as possible. He’s fit and strong and he’ll play a big part with the ball. Given the end-of-term atmosphere that permeates any limited overs series to follow an Ashes contest, it would be quite the embellishment to say Michael Clarke basked in Australia’s 88-run victory over England at Old Trafford. But there was certainly some relief evident in Clarke, for this was the first significant international win he had been part of since early February, and the first he has taken part in against England on a tour that began four months and three Prime Ministers ago.As results go, the Manchester margin was handsome, hurried along by a grand partnership between Clarke and his deputy George Bailey that pushed the tourists to 315 for 7, then secured by an even bowling display in which Mitchell Johnson was particularly menacing and everyone contributed at least one wicket. In a year largely barren of Australian success away from home, the win in Manchester will help establish the winning habit Clarke spoke of in the aftermath.”Winning’s always pleasing and that’s one thing I’ve emphasised to the Test boys but also the one-day guys,” Clarke said. “Sometimes it might not look pretty or feel great, but if you get over the line and get that winning feeling it’s a nice side of the fence to be on.”In the Test matches we showed in patches some really good cricket. Our performance today was a good start, but we won’t take anything for granted and I won’t look too far ahead, but I think at the end of the day it’s nice to have won a game against England on this tour.”It was nice to contribute, I’d like to play every Test and one-dayer at Manchester, I seem to score runs here. It’s about trying to help the team win and fortunately today I played my part. But everybody contributed today. There’s still three important games to go but it’s a nice feeling to be sitting here having won the first one of this series.”Surmising what his men had to do for the rest of the series, Clarke said the posting of a high total that increased the element of risk for England’s batsmen was significant, as was the plucking of regular wickets to ensure that no partnerships could be established. “England have got a lot of destructive players,” he said. “So I think for us taking wickets was crucial throughout our bowling innings, and batting as well as we could to set a target to make England take risks is something we’re going to have to continue to do throughout this series.”I wasn’t surprised by their team or that they bowled first, I think they’ve been doing that a lot in the shorter form of the game for a while now. We’ve got to make sure we keep working to get better because England will get better than today.”Eoin Morgan, England’s stand-in captain, certainly hopes so, and conceded his bowlers had allowed Australia around 40 runs too many on a dry, slowish Old Trafford strip. “It was probably more of a 275 type of pitch,” Morgan said. “It was hard when you got in but when you developed a partnership you found yourself without any effort going at five or six an over. Today we lost wickets through the whole innings. They played particularly well and put our bowlers under a lot of pressure.”James Tredwell was notably targeted by Australia’s batsmen, his usually efficient and tidy 10-over spell ended two overs short of that quota by Morgan, having already conceded 60. “It did make it difficult yeah,” Morgan said. “He’s a fantastic bowler and been a great performer, in the Champions Trophy he was one of the best bowlers in the tournament. Because they kept coming there was a feeling that he would create an opportunity to take a wicket, so it worked both ways. We ended up getting Finch because they played so hard, and I don’t have to tell you how good Michael Clarke is at playing spin.”

O Botafogo fez o dever de casa e manteve viva a chance de classificação para as semifinais da Taça Rio, segundo turno do Carioca. O Alvinegro venceu a Portuguesa-RJ por 4 a 1, na noite desta quinta-feira, no Nilton Santos. Todos os gols saíram no segundo tempo. Diego Souza, Gustavo Ferrareis, Alex Santana e Marcão (contra) fizeram os gols da equipe comandada por Zé Ricardo, enquanto Nilson descontou para a Lusa.

Com a vitória e o empate em 1 a 1 entre Cabofriense e Volta Redonda, o Botafogo seguiu vivo no Estadual. Agora, na última rodada o Alvinegro precisa vencer o Americano no domingo, torcer para que o Flamengo perca o Fla-Flu e a Cabofriense no máximo empate com o Madureira. Além disso, precisa tirar um saldo de quatro gols do Rubro-Negro.

Início morno no Niltão

Precisando vencer para manter-se vivo no Carioca, o Botafogo foi para cima da Portuguesa nos primeiros minutos de jogo. Diego Souza teve chance de abrir o placar aos 2 minutos, quando ficou cara a cara com Edson e bateu em cima do goleiro da Lusa. Mas foi só. A partir daí, o time de Zé Ricardo passou a errar na saída de bola, não conseguiu encaixar os ataques e mostrou pouca criatividade. Erik, artilheiro na temporada, estava sumido em campo. Com o gramado pesado pela chuva, a Portuguesa apenas esperava o erro do Alvinegro para tentar um contra-ataque.

Trapalhada da arbitragem

Após a parada técnica o time comandado por Aílton se animou. Aos 27, Diguinho cobrou falta no travessão e a Portuguesa foi pra cima do Botafogo, que continuava cometendo os mesmos erros. Três minutos mais tarde, o juiz marcou pênalti de Pimpão em Nilson, depois de um escanteio. Com a bola na marca do cal e Diguinho preparado para a cobrança, o árbitro Alexandre Vargas Tavares desistiu da marcação, acompanhando sinalização do assistente atrás do gol de que não houve falta. Ainda assim, o clube da Ilha não se abateu e continuou criando as melhores chances até o fim da primeira etapa. Do outro lado, nada funcionava para o Alvinegro. Alex Santana não funcionou como primeiro volante e Cícero não deu a dinâmica esperada por Zé Ricardo.

Enfim, os gols

Em um espaço de quatro minutos, três gols saíram no Nilton Santos. O Botafogo voltou do intervalo ainda jogando mal e quando a paciência da torcida já se esgotava, o pressionado Marcinho cruzou fechado, a bola bateu na trave direita e sobrou para Diego Souza livre marcar o seu primeiro gol com a mítica camisa 7 alvinegra, aos 8 minutos. Gustavo Ferrareis ampliou dois minutos mais tarde após belo lançamento de Cícero e Nilson descontou para a Lusa ao finalizar na saída de Cavalieri, aos 12.

Fim do sufoco

Depois do susto, Zé Ricardo mexeu no time, sacando Cícero e Erik para a entrada de Wenderson e Luiz Fernando. Mas quem resolveu foi o até então sonolento Alex Santana, que marcou um golaço em chute colocado da entrada da área, após troca de passes com Pimpão, aos 21 minutos. Mais aliviado, o Botafogo passou a errar menos passes. E foi rodando a bola que o time completou a goleada e ganhou sobrevida no Carioca. Novamente Pimpão avançou pela ponta direita e cruzou para a área. O zagueiro Marcão se atrapalhou e marcou contra.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been named captain of the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming Champions League Twenty20.In the IPL this season, Sunrisers were initially led by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara but he was later replaced by Australia’s Cameron White. While Sangakkara has chosen to play for Sri Lankan outfit Kandurata Maroons in the Champions League, White remains in the Sunrisers squad for the tournament.Dhawan, who has captained Delhi in the past, was eager to get cracking in the new role. “I have captained the Delhi team for a while now but this is a new challenge. Matt Coles, the England Lions fast bowler, has agreed a three-year contract with Hampshire, the county where he spent the last month of the season on loan. Coles had previously told Kent he would not be signing a new deal with them.Coles, who along with Ben Stokes was sent home from the Lions tour of Australia last winter, impressed during his short spell with Hampshire, taking 21 wickets in five matches, as well as scoring two half-centuries. In the final game of the season, against Essex, he claimed his best match figures of 10 for 154 in a resounding win.”I’m delighted to have made the move to Hampshire a permanent one,” Coles said. “In my short time here I’ve been very impressed with the way Giles White runs things. He has an excellent structure in place and a positive environment in which to develop and hone your skills.”Everyone at the club has welcomed me and there’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room. كشفت تقارير صحفية مختلفة، منذ قليل، توصل نادي مانشستر يونايتد إلى اتفاق بشأن صفقة حارس مرمى فريق إنتر ميلان أندريه أونانا.

وأبدى مانشستر يونايتد رغبته في الحصول على خدمات الحارس الكاميروني في موسم الانتقالات الصيفي الحالي، بعد رحيل الإسباني ديفيد دي خيا.

ودخل مانشستر يونايتد في مفاوضات مع إنتر ميلان، طوال الفترة الماضية، لبحث تلك الصفقة.

ووفقًا للعديد من التقارير الصحفية منذ قليل، وعلى رأسها شبكة “ذا أثلتيك” والصحفي الشهير فابريزيو رومانو، فإن مانشستر يونايتد حسم صفقة أونانا.

وأوضحت التقارير أن مانشستر يونايتد توصل إلى اتفاق شفهي مع إنتر ميلان حول الرسوم المالية لتلك الصفقة.

وسيوقع أونانا على عقد لمدة خمس سنوات، حتى عام 2028، مع خيار التمديد لعام سادس أي حتى 2026.

ويسعى مانشستر يونايتد إلى إدراج أونانا في الفريق المتوجه إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية لخوض المعسكر الاستعدادي للموسم الجديد.

ومن المتوقع أن يخضع أونانا للفحص الطبي في غضون الساعات الـ24-48 المقبلة.
