Na terça-feira, na véspera da partida contra o Juventude, o volante Hudson disse que a Copa do Brasil seria encarada como uma “Copa do Mundo” pelo São Paulo. Quem esperou ver um time ao menos semelhante àquele semifinalista da Libertadores, no entanto, se frustou. O Tricolor deu vexame e perdeu para os gaúchos por 2 a 1 na noite desta quarta-feira, no Morumbi, pelo jogo de ida das oitavas de final da Libertadores. A Copa do Mundo citada por Hudson nem entrou no Morumbi. Passou longe. Apenas 6.643 torcedores enfrentaram o frio e foram apoiar contra um time da Série C. Quer dizer, apoiar nem tanto. Bastou o Juventude abrir o placar, aos 9 minutos de jogo, para o mundo tricolor cair. Roberson, duas vezes, jogou o time da casa contra a torcida. Ou vice-versa.

A falta de sintonia chegou ao ápice quando Carlinhos cruzou a bola para Chavez fazer, de cabeça, o gol do São Paulo, ainda no primeiro tempo. Xingado pouco antes, o lateral-esquerdo provocou a torcida colocando a mão na orelha. Passou a ouvir vaias a cada toque na bola. O clima azedou, tudo isso ainda no primeiro tempo.

A falta de sintonia entre São Paulo e torcida se explica pela irregularidade no Campeonato Brasileiro e o pobre futebol apresentado nos últimos jogos. Perdido desde que foi eliminado na semifinal da Libertadores, há mais de mês, o São Paulo chegou a quatro jogos sem vencer no Morumbi (Chapecoense, Atlético-MG, Botafogo e Juventude). A má fase resultou em revolta da torcida, que, em pouco número, passou a maior parte do jogo cobrando reação e os jogadores. As organizadas pediram “Raça!” e cantaram “Não é mole, não, estou cansado de time amarelão”. Ricardo Gomes tentou reagir.

Com Michel Bastos no lugar de João Schmidt, o Tricolor retornou melhor para o segundo tempo contra o organizado Juventude, criou algumas chances, mas voltou a sofrer quando Thiago Mendes fez pênalti em Lucas. Roberson, o nome do jogo, fez a festa gaúcha e ampliou o desespero tricolor. Drama.

O São Paulo volta a campo no próximo domingo, contra o Coritiba, novamente no Morumbi. A falta de perspectiva de melhora é preocupante. Os últimos nove gols do time foram marcados por jogadores estrangeiros, entre Calleri, Cueva e Chavez. O time parece ter ficado no passado, enterrado lá em Medellín. Agora, precisa vencer por dois gols de diferença ou por um desde que faça pelo menos três para eliminar o Juventude e seguir na Copa do Brasil.

O goleiro Alisson não poupou elogios sobre a maneira como Tite vem lidando com os convocados da Seleção Brasileira. Em entrevista coletiva neste sábado, o camisa 1 afirmou que coube ao treinador transmitir calma em meio a um grupo que lidava, especialmente, com desconfiança pela eliminação precoce na Copa América Centenário:

– As críticas não eram só para o Dunga, eram pra gente também. Nós entramos em campo, fazemos as coisas acontecerem ou não. Quando a fase está ruim é bola na trave, gol de mão, pode ser que tenhamos nos abatido, mas o professor Tite nos deu palavras de ânimo, ajudou bastante, organizou o básico e através disso, voltando ao simples, fizemos um jogo envolvente, com posse de bola.

Alisson ainda ressaltou que a força de Tite contribuiu para incentivar os jogadores a mostrar serviço:

– A novidade gera mudança, um treinador novo tem que mostrar mais, se dedicar mais. Vínhamos de resultados não tão bons e quando as coisas não acontecem ficamos com a cabeça perturbada, as coisas não cooperam, tanto que fomos eliminados com um gol de mão na Copa América. Permitimos isso, poderíamos ter liquidado a partida antes. A Olimpíada nos ajudou bastante na aproximação com torcedor.

Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to have been handed a huge boost at Southampton ahead of the rest of the season, with Theo Walcott making his return to training after a lengthy injury this week.

The on-loan Everton man has been pictured in training during the international break and could be set to make his return when the Saints take on Burnley at St Mary’s next weekend.

Walcott rejoined his boyhood club in the summer on loan from the Toffees and made a promising start, with two goals and two assists in his first eight appearances at the South Coast club.

However, his form declined after Christmas when Southampton’s awful run of form began before he picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa that has kept him sidelined since.

Considering Southampton now find themselves in a relegation battle, after losing 2-1 to Brighton in their last Premier League fixture, Hasenhuttl will surely be delighted to have someone of Walcott’s experience available for the run-in and will be hoping that the 32-year-old can help steer the Saints to safety.

Walcott will also know that he will need to perform for the remaining fixtures this season, as his contract with Everton is set to expire in the summer, so you would imagine that he is hoping Southampton will turn his loan move into a permanent one ahead of next season.

However, the £5.4 million-rated winger will have to show a lot more than he did in his last eight appearances for Hasenhuttl’s side, when he failed to contribute a single goal or assist.

When Walcott is on form, he can still be a dangerous player in the Premier League, but he will have to start showing some of the form that led Danny Mills to label him “unplayable” in 2019 if he wants to earn himself a permanent contract with Southampton this summer.

There is no doubt that his return will be a timely boost for Hasenhuttl, however, as the Saints boss will be desperate to have as many senior options available as possible as he looks to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight for the final few fixtures of this season.

– Claro que o jogo é difícil. Mas vou lembrar que tivemos um clássico contra o Corinthians, logo depois da (eliminação do São Paulo da) Libertadores, a maioria das pessoas já dava o jogo como perdido, e fomos lá e saímos com o empate, merecedores da vitória. O que temos de fazer é lutar, se empenhar, para fazer um grande jogo – disse Denis, em coletiva de imprensa.

No entanto, é justamente na Arena do Corinthians onde Denis tem retrospecto ruim: sofreu 12 dos 14 gols já marcados pelo Alvinegro no São Paulo desde a inauguração.Cabe a Denis repetir a boa atuação da última partida do São Paulo em Itaquera para tentar parar o líder do Brasileirão.

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Newcastle United midfielder Rob Lee believes the club will be regretting the day they sold Adam Armstrong to Blackburn Rovers.

It has been a breakout season for the Newcastle academy graduate as he is the Championship’s third top scorer with 19 goals in 33 games, despite his season being slightly derailed by an injury.

He has been linked with a remarkable return back to Tyneside after proving himself in the Championship for the last three seasons with 55 goals in 153 games with Rovers potentially preferring to sell him back to Newcastle to avoid paying out on the 40% sell-on clause.

Armstrong featured 21 times for the Magpies registering just one assist, however this included just four starts with three of those coming in cup competitions.

Speaking on how he predicted that Newcastle would regret selling Armstrong and what one thing would make him a more in-demand striker, Lee told FFC:

“When he left Newcastle, I said at the time that they’ll regret letting him go because he’s a goalscorer.

“People probably don’t give him the credit that he deserves because of his size and shape, but so what if he’s smaller? I don’t care what size or shape you are, you could be 20 stone as long as you score goals.

“It doesn’t matter what shape you are. I think if he was six-foot-four then he’d be worth £50 million so I don’t understand the logic.”

Armstrong was with his boyhood club from 2006 until Blackburn signed him permanently in 2018 for £1.7 million.

With Newcastle staring relegation in the face, it remains to be seen if Armstrong would still be an option either if they survive or if they go down.

Steve Bruce has been left facing a huge conundrum against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday with a return for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson considered unlikely.

The Toon boss confirmed that Wilson remains a doubt for this weekend’s Premier League affair at St James’ Park when speaking to the media on Friday, although he voiced hope in having Allan Saint-Maximin back.

Wilson has missed Newcastle’s last six fixtures after sustaining a deep hamstring tear during February’s 3-2 win over Southampton, which forced the £20m summer signing from Bournemouth out of the game late in the first half.

Newcastle are yet to win a top-flight fixture without Wilson since his arrival on Tyneside in September, with Bruce’s men succumbing to five defeats and three draws.

The Toon had landed a potential boost over the international break when Wilson hinted at a return on social media, after Bruce alluded to having the 10-goal centre-forward back available to face Tottenham. Those hopes have now been dashed, and Newcastle will likely host Spurs on Sunday without their top scorer to call on once again.

“I wouldn’t have thought so, no,” Bruce said in relation to Wilson returning to selection at home to Jose Mourinho’s north Londoners.

“He [Saint-Maximin] could be, yeah. We’ve still got two days to train, today and tomorrow, but he came through a big training session 48 hours ago, so we hope he’s a bit more advanced than Callum is. We hope he can play some part.”

Despite missing Newcastle’s last six Premier League fixtures and two earlier in the campaign, Wilson remains atop the scoring charts at St James’ Park with more than double the tally of second-ranked Miguel Almiron (4) and with nine goals more than any other striker.

Being without Wilson on Sunday will leave Bruce facing a huge conundrum over his attacking options, with ex-Magpies midfielder Rob Lee fearful of the consequences.

“If you haven’t got someone who’s a natural goalscorer scoring goals, you’re in trouble, you’re in trouble,” Lee exclusively told Football FanCast. “You look at all the teams down there and none of them have a natural goalscorer, none of them.

“They [the teams that are relegated] never do. Throughout the years, they never have a natural goalscorer. We actually have one, but he’s injured and it seems the whole of our team is based around him and how he plays. And we haven’t got a replacement and then we don’t have any players from midfield [who can score].”

Joelinton, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle have each scored one goal in the Premier League this term, but neither have found the back of the net since Wilson’s injury.

Bruce will be well aware that Newcastle cannot afford to drop many more points with the northeast outfit only two points clear of the relegation zone, but they will likely struggle to steer the ship away from trouble while Wilson remains sidelined.

Gabby Agbonlahor slammed Joelinton following the Toon’s dismal 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the international break, claiming that the Brazilian “hasn’t turned up all season” and is still not delivering in the black and white stripes.

However, Bruce has been pleased with Joelinton’s recent efforts, saying that the 24-year-old had his best game for the club against Aston Villa last month, having turned in a “terrific” performance.

Alas, no goals in 14 Premier League games raises question marks over Joelinton’s ability to lead the line against Tottenham, when Newcastle will likely be in trouble again unless they can find someone to fill Wilson’s goalscoring void.

وتقام مباراة الإياب على ملعب المنتخبات الـ6 الأعلى تصنيفًا بينما تُلعب مواجهة الذهاب في أرض الفرق الأقل.

وحدد الاتحاد الإفريقي موعد إقامة مباريات الدور التمهيدي للتصفيات المؤهلة لكأس الأمم الأفريقية في الفترة من 21 إلى 29 مارس المقبل، بالتزامن مع المرحلة النهائية والحاسمة من تصفيات كأس العالم قطر 2022.
