So after looking like they had staged a mini revival, Manchester United were firmly brought back down to Earth with a bump after slipping to a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils came into the game full of confidence following a run of three successive away wins, and coming up against a side that had not scored in their previous three Premier League outings, this was surely seen as a quite comfortable three points.

Instead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men showcased the kind of problems that have characterised their entire season – a lack of creativity and goals. The Manchester side could only register four shots on target in the entire game, and in truth, never looked like scoring.

So when the attention turns towards Thursday night’s Europa League encounter against Partizan Belgrade, the United boss must simply throw caution to the wind and play the kind of attacking line-up that gives the team the best chance of scoring.

As has been the theme this season in the cup competitions, Sergio Romero will likely replace David de Gea in between the sticks for United. In front of him, Marcos Rojo could replace Victor Lindelof, but Solskjaer may be tempted to stick to a strong starting eleven. The Red Devils desperately need a feel-good performance and result, and a clash at home to Partizan is exactly the kind of game they should be ear-marking to do just that.

Whilst Aaron Wan-Bissaka has already earned rave reviews for his defensive prowess, he is not the most adventurous of full-backs – certainly not by modern standards. Against Bournemouth at the weekend, the former Crystal Palace man attempted no crosses whatsoever, whilst only two of his his attempted eight long balls found their mark. Teenage prospect Brandon Williams – who had United fans drooling over a mazy run in a game earlier this season – could be the man to provide some attacking thrust.

In midfield, James Garner could come in for Scott McTominay to help dictate the tempo, whilst Andreas Pereira’s woeful showing in the number ten role against the Cherries surely means he should be out of the team on Thursday. The Brazilian provided just one key pass, failed to complete any of his six crosses and lost possession 23 times. Solskjaer should therefore think about turning back to Juan Mata to provide some creativity – after all, the ex-Chelsea man has an impressive career average of two key passes per game.

And finally, whilst the Red Devils boss may want to give his forwards a rest, they could really do with another boost in confidence. As such, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Anthony Martial may be given the chance to start again – and it’s exactly the kind of attacking line-up Solskjaer needs to put out to quickly erase their painful Bournemouth memories.

وتابع: “بلا شك عودة البطولة بعد طول غياب ستعود بالفائدة لكل المنتخبات العربية المشاركة، خاصة أن المنتخبات لديها استحقاقات هامة في الفترة المقبلة”.

وأضاف: “ما ينتظره المشجع الجزائري المنافسة الدائمة على كل البطولات، وهذا من حقه، شيء طبيعي ونحن سنسعى لتحقيق طموحاتهم وإسعادهم وسنقدم الدعم الكامل للمنتخب”.

واختتم حديثه بسؤاله: هل منتخب الجزائر سيشارك بالمحترفين أو المحليين؟، ليجيب: “سنشارك باللاعبين الجاهزين في ذلك الوقت”.

It seems not many Barcelona fans are particularly keen on manager Ernesto Valverde, with sections of the support whistling the team at the Nou Camp recently. 

The Blaugrana sit top of both La Liga and their Champions League qualifying group as things stand, though some of their performances in both competitions have been unconvincing so far.

Inconsistency has been the main problem with Barcelona under Valverde. One week they could be emphatic and dismantle their opponents – they did it this weekend, beating Celta Vigo 4-1 at the Nou Camp. The next, they may be held by Slavia Prague at home in the Champions League, just like they were last week or lose convincingly to Levante.

It is a problem that has plagued the Catalan titans for the previous two seasons now. Even last term, as they won La Liga at a canter, they still came apart in tragic circumstances against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals and then lost the Copa del Rey final against Valencia.

It seems as though Barca fans have simply had enough with their current manager, and are yearning for the club to appoint a more charismatic suitor, one who will get results on the pitch whilst motivating the supporters and players off of it.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is arguably the best manager in the world right now, especially after his side beat Manchester City 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. Indeed, he is the manager these fans appear to want to be given the role.

استنكر خالد الغندور، لاعب الزمالك السابق ومقدم البرامج الحالي، قرار إقالة بعض المذيعين والمراسلين بقناة النادي الأهلي بعد اكتشاف أنهم ينتمون للقلعة البيضاء.

وتشهد قناة الأهلي تطويرًا جديدًا على مستوى مقدمي البرامج والمحتوى، حيث تم إقالة المذيعة سارة محسن، والمراسل مينا ماهر، بعد أن ثبت أنهما ينتميان للزمالك.

He may not generate the same amount of excitement as Jadon Sancho or James Maddison – what with him being a left-back – but Ben Chilwell certainly produced a performance that has gotten Manchester United fans purring.

The England international has been linked with a big-money move to the Red Devils in the future, and on Thursday night against Montenegro, he showed exactly why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are interested in signing him.

As per Sofascore, he recorded a 9.2 match rating (the highest of any player on the pitch), no doubt thanks to his hat-trick of assists and incredible five key passes in total.

After seeing Chilwell’s display, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their reported transfer target.

Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted he showed exactly why he is far better than current Red Devils left-back, Luke Shaw, and urged the club to sign him as soon as possible.

Wolves target Dani Olmo speaks about his future

In an interview with Spanish publication Sport, the 21-year-old Barcelona academy graduate replied “I hope I can come back” when asked about a possible return to La Liga, although he also stated: “I don’t close the door on any club.”

Verdict

Sport have claimed that Barcelona may be tempted to bring Olmo back to Camp Nou, which could leave Wolves needing to use all their powers of persuasion to try and bring him to Molineux.

He netted on his senior debut for Spain last Friday and scored against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last month, with a return of six goals from 17 club games this season.

With Wolves not having an abundance of goals from midfield (Ruben Neves is their most prolific in that position so far this term with three), Olmo could be worth another try for Wolves in the January transfer window.

Patrick Cutrone’s agent refutes rumours of possible Wolves exit

Patrick Cutrone’s agent Donato Orgnoni has poured cold water on reports that the striker wants to leave Wolves and return to his native Italy.

Italian outlet Primo Canale reported on Monday [via Sport Witness] that the 21-year-old is seeking a return to Serie A, with Sampdoria considering a loan-to-buy offer in January.

However, Orgnoni subsequently told SampNews24 [via Sport Witness] that his client has not thought about leaving Wolves and is fully committed to the club.

Verdict

Cutrone hasn’t quite hit the ground running at Wolves since joining from AC Milan in July, with just two goals in 19 appearances so far for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Having made just three Premier League starts and remaining in the shadow of Raul Jimenez, who has followed up his 17 goals last season with 13 already this term, the Italian might have been hoping to make more of an impact at Molineux in his first few months at the club.

However, at 21 he has ample time to improve and does not deserve to be written off at Wolves yet, considering his tender years and that this is his first move outside of his homeland.

Wolves maintaining their interest in Danny Loader

Wolves are continuing to keep tabs on Reading forward Danny Loader, having come close to signing the 19-year-old during the summer.

On transfer deadline day in August, the teenager had a medical at Molineux and agreed terms with Wolves, only for the Royals to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute, as tweeted by Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui.

That hasn’t deterred the Black Country club from renewing their interest in the player, though, with Birmingham Live claiming on Tuesday that Wolves are keeping tabs on him.

Verdict

Loader has yet to firmly establish himself in Reading’s first team, making just six senior appearances (four as a substitute) this season without scoring, as per TransferMarkt.

However, that hasn’t stopped Wolves from being joined in the race for his signature by Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News.

With Raul Jimenez scoring freely and a host of forward options either at the club currently (Diogo Jota, Patrick Cutrone, Pedro Neto) or out on loan (Rafa Mir, Leo Bonatini, Bright Enobakhare, Renat Dadashov), there seems no great need for Wolves to go all-in on an unproven striker who hasn’t yet nailed down a place at the team placed 19th in the Championship.

أعلن الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم “يويفا” عن نقل نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا للموسم الحالي 2020/2021 بين مانشستر سيتي وتشيلسي إلى البرتغال.

وأكد “يويفا” في بيانه الرسمي أن ملعب “دراجاو” الخاص بنادي بورتو هو من سيستضيف نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا بدلًا من “أتاتورك” في مدينة “إسطنبول” بـ “تركيا” في 29 مايو الجاري.

وأفاد البيان الرسمي أن كلاً من مانشستر سيتي وتشيلسي سيحق لجماهيرهما حضور المباراة بحد أقصى 6000 مشجع.

الجدير بالذكر أن هذه هي المرة الثانية على التوالي التي يتم نقل المباراة من ملعب “أتاتورك” بعدما أقيمت البطولة من دور الثمانية في البرتغال بالموسم الماضي حتى النهائي بسبب فيروس كورونا.

ويأتي السبب وراء نقل المباراة من “إسطنبول” بسبب الإجراءات الاحترازية الشديدة التي تعاني منها المدينة بسبب فيروس كورونا والتي ستمنع الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم من تنظيم النهائي.

عاد مرتضى منصور، رئيس مجلس إدارة نادي الزمالك (المعزول) للظهور من جديد، وهاجم أشرف صبحي وزير الشباب والرياضة واللجنة المؤقتة التي تدير القلعة البيضاء حاليا.

مرتضى منصور تم عزله هو ومجلسه بقرار من وزارة الشباب والرياضة، بسبب وجود شبهة فساد مالي، وتكليف لجنة مؤقتة لإدارة نادي الزمالك لحين إجراء انتخابات جديدة.

وقال منصور في فيديو بثه عبر قناته بموقع الفيديوهات الشهير “يوتيوب”: “أعد لك مفاجأة يا أشرف يا صبحي، وستكون في الفيديو القادم، سيجعل كيانك يسقط، ولو الحكومة محترمة ستجعلك تذهب للمنزل، وهذا الأمر ليس له علاقة بشخصي، ولكن هناك مفاجأة وراء السبب الحقيقي للغل الذي تحمله لي”.

وأضاف: “انا بالفعل ارتكبت 3 مخالفات مالية من أصل 60 مخالفة، وأعترف بهم، المخالفة الأولى هي خطأ إجرائي في صرف شيكات للمقاولون العرب، والإدارة المالية كانت السبب في المشكلة، وقمت بفصلهم من العمل، وأعادهم عماد عبد العزيز”.

وواصل: “المخالفة الثانية، وصل الكهرباء جاء بمبلغ 44 ألف جنيه، وهناك ولد كان يعمل في النادي صرف لهم المبلغ مرة بأصل الإيصال ومرة بالصورة”.

وتابع: “المخالفة الثالثة، موظف شركة جاء ليقوم بتركيب لافتات في النادي، وأخبرني أن تكلفتها مليون و200 ألف جنيه، وتم صرف مبلغ مليون و900 ألف فقط من خزينة النادي، والموظف أخذ 200 ألف جنيه في يده، وأنا قمت بتحويل المسؤولين عن الواقعة للنيابة العامة”.

وشدد: “أنا أشرف من الجميع، أعترف بتلك المخالفات لأن الراعي مسؤول عن راعيته، ولن أتبرأ من ذنبي، ولكن أين باقي المخالفات؟ ولماذا لم يتم التحقيق فيها؟”.

واستطرد: “حاليا أجهز ملفًا مكونًا من 108 صفحات، مستند فيه للوائح الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم وميثاق اللجنة الأولمبية، وهناك ملف آخر عن التنمر الذي تعرضت له أنا وشيكابالا لاعب الزمالك، وتركي آل الشيخ (الرئيس الشرفي للنادي الأهلي السابق)، بالإضافة إلى ملف آخر عن حسن مصطفى (رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة اليد)”.

وأوضح: “هذا الملف سيتم ترجمته للغة الإنجليزية، سيسافر مع وفد على أعلى مستوى، سيتم تسليمه باليد للفيفا”.

وهدد: “أقول لـ أشرف صبحي وزير الرياضة أمامك فرصة أسبوع حتى يتم تجهيز الملف، أن تعيد الشرعية لنادي الزمالك وكرامته، لديك فرصة ذهبية، لأن هذا الملف لو تم تسليمه للفيفا من الممكن أن يضر الكرة المصرية، وأنت من ستتحمل ذلك”.

واستكمل: “أمامك فرصة لكي تصحح الخطأ الكبير الذي حدث، هذا ليس خطأ في حقي، أنا رئيس الزمالك التاريخي مثلما تردد الجماهير”.

واختتم: “حققت بطولات لم يحققها أحد، نصف ألقاب الدوري كانت في وجودي، منذ أن كنت عضوًا في مجلس إدارة كمال درويش الذي لم يكن يتحدث أبدًا، وأنا كنت مشرفًا على الكرة”.

It’s been over a month since Marcelo Bielsa claimed that he’s been working hard on scoring from corners in training, and since that point Leeds United haven’t found the back of the net from one of those scenarios.

It’s not as if they’ve not had the chances either, Leeds have had more corner kicks than any other team in the Championship, yet they’ve continuously struggled to score from them.

Phil Hay has now bemoaned the Whites’ incessant wastefulness from those types of situations.

What’s been said then?

The former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist was hosting a Q&A session on The Athletic after the Whites’ 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday, and one disgruntled fan asked him his thoughts on the club’s wastefulness from set-pieces.

“Corners especially. Almost a waste of time. Leeds have had roughly 140 in league games this season and have scored from one. It’s an oddity with Bielsa – that his team send so many deliveries into the box when so few pay off.”

Needs to change

Hay is absolutely spot on with his summary of this, and Marcelo Bielsa really has to change something about it.

You really have to wonder what Leeds have been working on in the corner training that Bielsa spoke about earlier this season because it simply isn’t working.

It’s not as if Leeds have a poor set-piece taker either. Kalvin Phillips was topping the charts in terms of successful corners delivered last week, but Leeds still aren’t scoring from these scenarios.

Hay says that it’s an oddity that Bielsa’s side continue to deliver balls into the box, and perhaps it’s time for Leeds to switch to a short corner tactic in the near future.

It might have something to do with a lack of an aerial threat in the team. Only Liam Cooper has won more than four aerial duels per game in the whole side.
