Spurs fans react to Sissoko’s major injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to the news that Moussa Sissoko is set to be out until April.

The France international sustained ligament damage in the clash with Southampton and subsequently missed the FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Spurs have now confirmed that he has undergone surgery on the issue and will return to training in three months.

The news comes as a major blow to Spurs, who already have Harry Kane out injured, and supporters have expressed their sadness at the news.

Other fans have taken a look at the potential solutions, with the January transfer window still currently open.

And various supporters have urged the club to invest in a replacement for the former Newcastle United midfielder as the season reaches its business end.

It remains to be seen if chairman Daniel Levy will take their advice.

One thing is for sure, though: boss Jose Mourinho could well struggle to field a proper midfield against Liverpool this weekend, with The Daily Telegraph reporting that both Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks are also struggling for fitness.

Meanwhile, Spurs are tracking one man who has been in absolutely brilliant form this season.

Liverpool fans praise Pedro Chirivella’s performance for U23s

The case of Pedro Chirivella is a curious one.

Despite being 22 years of age, he has made just nine appearances for the Reds’ first team, with him instead having spent large amounts of time on loan during the last few seasons. However, he will go down in history as having captained Liverpool – he did so against Aston Villa in the League Cup in December – and he also started the Anfield outfit’s match against Everton in the FA Cup earlier this month.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

It was back to reality for the midfielder on Monday as the Reds easily dispatched Southampton 5-0 in the Premier League 2, and many fans were delighted with his display.

His pass for Harvey Elliott’s strike attracted lots of praise from the supporters.

It was a fantastic assist, and it shows the quality that Chirivella has at his disposal.

There was another clip doing the rounds, which showed the Spaniard winning a tackle in midfield, and many were impressed by his desire and dedication.

The winning mentality at Liverpool does seem to be infectious at the moment. That is what can happen when you are on your way to a first league title in 30 years.

Chirivella, of course, has less than six months left on his contract. After seeing his latest showing, there are calls for him to be given a new deal.

Recent reports have suggested that a fresh agreeement could be on the cards, so these supporters may get their wish.

Sunderland fans show vocal support for Phil Parkinson following recent turnaround

Sunderland have struggled for much of the season but their form since Christmas has brought renewed hope back to the Stadium of Light, and the team now sit in sixth place in League One.

Jack Ross found himself out of a job after a poor start and the hangover effect from his tenure seemingly plagued Phil Parkinson and his squad, which he has only recently got rid of.

The 4-0 thrashing of second-place Wycombe shows the Black Cats can be a class above on their day, and that is thanks to the spirit and style that Parkinson has finally been able to implement.

He may still only have five wins from 18 games but supporters are beginning to understand his tactics and there is seemingly a strong belief in what he is trying to install at the club, as the six-match unbeaten run indicates that it is working well.

Supporters have acknowledged that they were perhaps a little too quick to judge the manager so harshly, as his key decisions have worked in the team’s favour.

That includes the move to a 5-2-3 formation which has seen Lynden Gooch and Chris Maguire thrive – the pair now have 21 goals and assists between them this season – whilst Aiden McGeady’s omission from the senior squad seems to have allowed a strong team spirit to manifest.

Some fans point to Parkinson improving players, most notably Maguire, who has now scored nine league goals after firing his side to victory over the Chairboys on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sunderland fans have also been discussing the potential signing of a prolific goalscorer currently playing in the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday may struggle to find viable Steven Fletcher solution this month

Sheffield Wednesday face a race against time to secure the striker that manager Garry Monk so desperately desires.

The Owls’ need for a new forward has been ramped up tenfold in recent weeks after suffering their most devastating blow of the season – losing top goalscorer Steven Fletcher to injury.

Monk will be without the 32-year-old’s services for the next eight to ten weeks, and he’s made it well known that he would like to find a replacement as soon as possible.

Wednesday have been linked to a number of names this month, some of which include Eddie Nketiah, who they appear to have lost out on, Lyle Taylor and Jonson Clarke-Harris, but neither of the latter two are realistic as Monk expects to operate the loan market only. That’s rather damning on the backup options of Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu as their manager clearly doesn’t fancy any of them to step up to the plate in his absence.

Which is the first signal towards the potential problems facing the south Yorkshiremen this month.

One player heavily linked to the club is Crystal Palace’s Connor Wickham, but according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, there’s been a bit of a hold up over the deal.

He then went on to say that if the right offer is there, then the Owls would clinch him – suggesting that it’s on Dejphon Chansiri and the Wednesday hierarchy to pull their finger out.

Nixon also added that there’s probably not another bargain out there, so they shouldn’t sway away from making this move.

If those at the club are unable to stump up the right wages for the injury-prone Wickham, then it only goes to show that trying to sign a suitable striker to fill Fletcher’s void is merely a pipedream.

That’s reinforced by the fact that Wednesday have to operate the loan market for additions this month.

They are still rueing the finances involved with players such as club-record signing Jordan Rhodes and Fernando Forestieri, which are both unlikely to be resolved until the summer.

Monk may find the next two weeks stressful, and these comments from Nixon hardly provide much encouragement; expect such reports to draw out until the frantic scenes on deadline day.

And in other news, one of Carlos Carvalhal’s worst signings is sure to head for the exit door if Wednesday can indeed make an addition this month…

West Ham should allow Anthony Scully and Dan Kemp to join Stevenage

During the West Ham Way Podcast 165, ExWHUemployee suggested that both Anthony Scully and Dan Kemp are loan targets for League Two outfit Stevenage.

The former is also wanted by Cambridge United, while Leyton Orient have their eyes set on bringing the latter in on a temporary basis.

Sending them out on loan to those teams could be useful for their development, but going out as a pair could be very useful for the Hammers and their two youngsters.

This is not something that would usually be done by the club, with Nathan Holland and Conor Coventry having headed out to Oxford United and Lincoln City respectively.

While this would be slightly experimental, it could also be highly beneficial for the two youngsters and the club, especially in this case.

Scully has had a highly impressive record this campaign, as across 16 games in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, the Republic of Ireland youth international has scored 14 goals and provided five assists.

Kemp has also had a solid return, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further four from 18 appearances in the same two competitions.

The duo have already shown that they can link up against Football League opposition, when Kemp ran through and slipped the ball across to Scully, who eventually bundled the ball over the line to secure a dramatic 5-4 victory against Newport County in the EFL Trophy.

Allowing these two to go out temporarily and develop both their individual games and that partnership would surely be positive for the club.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

In addition to that, with any loan move completed this month being a first for both players, it could be helpful for the pair to have a familiar face with them while they look to settle in at their new home.

Looking at the club in particular, it would be a real challenge for them as Stevenage fight to stay in the Football League – sitting second from bottom in League Two before the weekend’s fixtures. So this would be a great indication of whether they have the grit to best utilise their talents in senior football.

Overall, sending them out as a double act is a move that makes real sense and could be of huge benefit.

Meanwhile, FFC sources have given an update on the potential of Dimitri Payet joining West Ham.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk reveals his hopes for Deadline Day

Sheffield Wednesday’s business is set to go right down to the wire with Owls boss Garry Monk suggesting that he would ideally like two new signings before tonight’s 11pm deadline. And the 40-year-old has given an encouraging update in his quest to bolster the Wednesday squad during his pre-match press conference this afternoon…

According to Nancy Frostick of The Athletic, Monk already has two names in mind. Although it remains to be seen exactly who, his suggestion that they are both “available and doable” is hugely positive.

One player could be Crystal Palace striker Conor Wickham, who has been linked with a move to Hillsborough all month. Alan Nixon has provided the latest on that deal here.

Wednesday are now left with a race against time to complete any deals with less than ten hours remaining in the window.

Liverpool’s Adrian is of interest to former club Real Betis

According to Estadio Deportivo, Real Betis are interested in Liverpool’s back-up goalkeeper Adrian.

What’s the story?

The 33-year-old only signed for the club last January on a free transfer, but he is already being targeted by another club – one he used to play for, no less.

Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…

The report adds that Adrian has a contract until 2021, which could run until 2022 if the one-year extension option is exercised.

Must keep him

Adrian has proven to be an astute signing by Liverpool. When he completed his move in August last year, few would have expected him to feature too often outside of the cup competitions, but he has ended up making 15 appearances in total already due to Alisson’s injury and suspension issues.

He has barely put a foot wrong. In fact, he made himself a hero within weeks of arriving as he saved Tammy Abraham’s penalty in the UEFA Super Cup final shoot-out victory against Chelsea. During his time between the sticks in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s side shipped just nine goals – he hasn’t looked out of place.

Of course, Alisson is always going to be the first-choice goalkeeper, but it is always a bonus to have a back-up option you can rely on – and that hasn’t always been the case for Klopp. Before the 6 foot 3 shot-stopper joined, Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet were those called upon in the absence of the Brazil international – both of them had plenty of critics. No wonder Ian Doyle has called Adrian “Liverpool’s best ever No 2 goalkeeper – ever”.

Whilst Real Betis and a return home may interest the former Spaniard, the Anfield outfit must convince him to stay at the club. He has already proven his worth, and it will be hard to find a quality alternative who will be willing play a reduced role. In all honesty, it is hard to see the Reds finding anyone better to fill the role than what they already have.

Man Utd fans hail Hannibal Mejbri’s display in the FA Youth Cup against Leeds

The FA Youth Cup gives clubs like Manchester United the perfect chance for their youngsters to experience a real cut-throat, knock-out tournament environment.

Whilst it was a header from Dillon Hoogewerf that proved to be the decisive, match-winning strike, many fans of the Manchester side took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on one starlet in particular: Hannibal Mejbri.

One supporter in particular suggested Mejbri could be the long-term successor to Paul Pogba, with the France World Cup winner reportedly telling teammates he still wants to leave the club.

Another fan meanwhile, even insisted that Mejbri is ready for the first-team already, despite him only turning 17 last month.

Whilst Solskjaer, just like these United fans, may have left Old Trafford feeling particularly excited about the kind of talent coming through the academy, he knows there should still be a huge sense of caution over their futures.

The Red Devils have had an inconsistent season at first-team level, with wins over the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, being punctured by defeats to the likes of Burnley and Crystal Palace. If they can get back to their best form as soon as possible, then players like Mejbri will have an easier path to shine.

Everton: Fans split on Seamus Coleman’s rallying cry after stating the Toffees need European football

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to captain Seamus Coleman’s rallying cry after stating that the team’s confidence is soaring as they look to secure a European place for next season.

The 31-year-old led his team to a 3-1 victory last weekend against Crystal Palace, which secured back-to-back victories for the Toffees. The result means that the Blues have now taken 17 points from the eight Premier League games for which Carlo Ancelotti has been in charge, with the team now sitting in seventh place in the table.

As a result, Coleman told the club’s official website that the squad’s morale is high and that they are now aiming to get into the European places for the 2020/21 campaign, stressing that the Merseyside club must be playing in Europe. With this in mind, some supporters were split on Coleman’s comments and made their feelings clear on social media, with one suggesting that the Ireland international should leave his words in the past.

QPR fans rave over Dominic Ball for "MOTM" display

Queens Park Rangers produced a stunning comeback to overcome a two-goal deficit and pick up all three points at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Rs found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening half-hour but fought back to go into the break all-square before clinching the victory with two late goals; Bright Osayi-Samuel firing home in the 71st minute then Ilias Chair clinching the win in injury time. But it was neither of the above players that received the bulk of the praise post-game, instead, midfielder Dominic Ball drew the acclaim for what some described as a ‘Man of the Match’ performance. Here’s what supporters have been saying…

After touting him for being the best player on the pitch at the weekend, other fans described him as “underrated.”

These reactions went from being compared amongst the squad to the Championship on the whole, and even as far as the whole world – even if that one was a little tongue in cheek.

His display in the heart of the pitch against Stoke has led to others asking him to sign a new contract at the end of the season.

Further supporters reflected on his just good of a signing he has been this season after linking up with QPR in the summer on a free transfer from Rotherham, who were relegated from the Championship.

The 24-year-old has also featured for Rangers and Aberdeen after coming through the youth system at Spurs.

“Top attitude” and “signing of the season” were two phrases used.

Whilst a few others believed he had the potential to be their next captain, one even touted him to become the skipper next season.
