Stoke fans react to Moritz Bauer speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to The Telegraph, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer during the January transfer window.

Stoke boss Nathan Jones has since issued a hands-off warning, however, with Gary Rowett’s replacement insisting that Bauer would not be leaving.

Wolves can be pretty persuasive though and Bauer’s head would surely be turned by the chance to return to the Premier League.

The Stoke fans have been on social media offering their views on the transfer speculation and it would be fair to say that there was a mixed reaction.

Bauer only joined Stoke from Rubin Kazan last January and the defender made 15 Premier League appearances in the second half of last season.

The 26-year-old was seriously out of favour under Rowett in the first half of this season, but was back on the bench for Jones’ first game in charge against Brentford at the weekend.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Stoke fans can be seen below:

Could Liverpool shock us all and bring back former midfielder to seal Premier League title?

Liverpool remain on course to land their first Premier League title after sealing a 4-3 win over Crystal Palace this weekend in a dramatic tie at Anfield.

The Reds saw off a firm challenge from the Eagles to snatch what could prove to be a massive three points in the title race, and the fans at Anfield will be getting genuinely excited that this is the year for their club.

However, a lack of January transfer window action will be of a concern to some Liverpool fans, especially with Champions League football just around the corner again, meaning injuries and suspensions could well mount up in the winter months.

That’s why we here at the Tavern think adding one or two players of massive quality would be a wise move for the club, and we think it’s not entirely unfeasible for the Reds to go out and make a move to re-sign former midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian has not shone at Barcelona like many thought he would do, and he seems to be overshadowed by the consistent brilliance of the likes of Leo Messi and Luis Suarez.

Coutinho would be welcomed back to Anfield with open arms, especially as his big money replacement Naby Keita has simply not come off as yet.

A loan move, or even a big money move but at a fraction of what Barca paid for the Brazilian is not out of the question for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and if he were to come back, then the title would surely be there for Liverpool to take.

Reds fans, what do you think? How good a signing would this be? Let us know in the comments!

McClaren must sign Nketiah and Ampadu on loan this month

Queens Park Rangers have struggled to ensure consistency in recent times, which can be put down to a lack of potency up top and a drop in quality at the back.

The London club will be desperate to bring in at least a couple of players this month after witnessing Nakhi Wells, Geoff Cameron and Toni Leistner’s influence so far this season.

Although, the Hoops are currently under an enforced transfer embargo as part of the punishment for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations at Loftus Road.

The second condition to making a signing would be that the incoming player would not be paid more £11,500 per week, or be paid a salary of more than 75% of the player which he’s replacing. That would be on a one-in-one-out basis, with the club permitted, also, to make free transfers.

But, with their promotion hopes still very much alive, perhaps McClaren can get the most out of a couple of potential January loan signings during the second half of the season.

One player who has struggled to enjoy regular minutes in the Premier League is Eddie Nketiah. The youngster has been in fine form in the current campaign at youth level, scoring six goals in seven appearances, but he has only managed to appear five times in the first-team ranks at Arsenal, despite being one their hottest prospects.

Nketiah causes all sorts of problems with his pace and dribbling ability and he’s a natural goalscorer, so he could definitely produce the goals required to secure QPR a play-off spot.

Another player who the Hoops should take a look at is Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu. He has made all the right moves since joining Chelsea but first-team appearances just haven’t come around as often as he would like, which opens the door for a loan move this month to try and force his way into the reckoning for next season.

The Wales international has all the ingredients to become a future star in the Premier League and has already displayed his talents during first-team appearances at Stamford Bridge.

QPR are currently lacking options at the heart of the defence and the likes of Joel Lynch and Toni Leistner are very one-dimensional, so bringing in a ball-playing defender like Ampadu would aid their promotion push massively.

It’s unknown as to how much either player earns exactly at this moment in time, but a loan move could be something that excites both youngsters at this stage in their careers, with a potential pay-cut being taken for just 6 months.

Queens Park Rangers fans – thoughts on potentially securing these two loan signings?

Clash against Wolves on Saturday should be a turning point in Everton’s season

Everton welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Goodison Park on Saturday and the encounter is perfectly poised to be quite an important matchup for both camps.

Marco Silva’s men, though, should head into the clash feeling they have nothing to lose and play the type football they have been trying to master this whole season, while at the same time a win over Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges could spark new life into the Merseyside club.

A run of poor results in recent times by the Toffees was followed by an important win at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening and despite losing Lucas Digne to a red card, the victory came at a crucial time for the team.

A shock defeat to Millwall in the FA Cup over the weekend heaped a lot of pressure on both the manager and the players and raised a few big question marks over the quality of the group.

There have been times this season where it was quite evident to what Everton can achieve if all the players play to their best abilities, but inconsistency has let the team down on too many occasions this season.

That’s why the big test against Wolves could come at just the right time for Silva to see his team turn a corner and show the rest of the league what the club is building towards.

Wolves have a two-point lead over Everton in the Premier League and both clubs will be desperate for a win to improve their chances of qualifying for the Europa League.

A strong showing against the high flying Wolves would signal to the fans as well that Everton haven’t given up on their season and are still committed to finish on a high.

Wolves, though, are enjoying a stellar time in the league and easily saw off West Ham United on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 thumping.

This should encourage Everton even more to raise their game come Saturday and put in a proper performance that would please both the manager and the supporters.

Liverpool fans praise FSG as club reports record profits

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to a story on the club’s finances, as the Reds secured record-high profits in 2018.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool set a world-record profit of £125 million in the financial year ending May 2018.

The Reds were in deep financial trouble under previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, as reported by The Liverpool Echo, but the heavily-criticised Fenway Sports Group have got things back on track and so much more.

Who has the loudest fans in Europe? PSG certainly state their claim in the video below…

The American owners were bashed tirelessly by supporters during their first few years at the club, as the Anfield faithful were just fed up of poor transfer business and trophy-less seasons.

While the latter of those things hasn’t changed (yet), the Reds are now kings of the transfer market, regularly hailed as one of the best operators in the business.

On top of that, Joyce reports that the club recorded £125m profit last year, a whopping £40m increase on the previous year.

This is even including the £190m Jurgen Klopp splashed out on the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson Becker, and fans are heaping praise on the previously divisive FSG.

Quick read: Bielsa must replace Ayling with Shackleton

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United earned a draw against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in dramatic circumstances on Saturday, as Kalvin Phillips headed in an equaliser for the Whites in the 11th minute of stoppage time.

The point took Marcelo Bielsa’s side back to the top of the Championship table. However, the Argentine coach will know, although a draw was a fair result, it was for from a perfect performance from his side.

Leeds wasted plenty of goalscoring opportunities and at times struggled to be effective on the ball. A number of players looked fatigued and out of ideas, none more so than right-back Luke Ayling.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

The 27-year-old has been in fine form this season but could do with some time out of the firing line now. What’s more, 19-year-old Jamie Shackleton has impressed this season and could offer Leeds a new dimension if given the chance to fill in for Ayling at right-back for a while.

If Bielsa is to guide his side successfully to promotion he must rotate his ranks smartly, bringing in Shackleton for Ayling would be doing exactly that.

West Bromwich Albion: Fans laud Slaven Bilic after Birmingham win

Appointing Slaven Bilic as their new manager at the beginning of the season clearly looks to have paid dividends at this stage of the campaign, so much so that West Bromwich Albion fans have been hailing the Croatian boss once again on Twitter.

The Baggies managed to see off local arch-rivals Birmingham City in a Midlands derby that took place at St. Andrews in Saturday’s early kick-off, despite finding themselves going behind twice in the game (BBC).

Lukas Jutkiewicz got the hosts off to a perfect start inside the opening three minutes when he headed home, however Bilic’s side were left thanking West Ham United loanee Grady Diangana just moments later when he levelled the tie.

Birmingham took the lead once again in similar fashion as they scored just after the restart in the second half when Harlee Dean netted, a late double-salvo from substitute Charlie Austin meant they would return to the top of the Championship and remain there after a collapse by promotion rivals Leeds United later on in the afternoon.

Fans were understandably delighted with what their side had managed to achieve on the pitch, however many of them also took the opportunity to sing the praises of their current manager.

One supporter had even admitted that having Bilic at the club was the best bit of news they had had in decades.

Here are just some of their reactions…

West Bromwich Albion fans, what are your thoughts on Bilic? Let us know below!

Tottenham fending off major competition for Victor Osimhen would be a major coup

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are one of many clubs currently monitoring Lille starlet Victor Osimhen ahead of a possible move.

What’s the word?

The 20-year-old has been in sparkling form for the French side this season, netting 12 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions. Indeed, his nine strikes in Ligue 1 is level with PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe. Understandably, there appears to be a lot of interest in the Nigeria international, and Sky Sports claim Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea are among a host of clubs monitoring his progress.

The report adds however that the £27m-rated prospect is expected to stay at current side Lille for the duration of this campaign, unless the club “receives a January offer that is too good to refuse”. Osimhen is also said to be happy with life at the French outfit, and is intent on helping them qualify for the Champions League next season and refining his own game.

Major coup

Whilst signing young prospects from France hasn’t always worked out well for Spurs – Georges-Kevin Nkoudou anyone? – a swoop for Osimhen would be far less of a risk, and more of a major reward. The Nigerian’s aforementioned exploits in Ligue 1 are as impressive as they look, but it’s his performances in the Champions League this season that should really catch Jose Mourinho’s eye.

Despite Lille crashing out of the group stages without a win, Osimhen netted twice: against Chelsea at home, and Valencia away. And after his performance against the Blues, Frank Lampard himself raved about the starlet’s performance. He said: “He was hugely impressive, was going to be a tough match for our defenders. His performance individually was really good. He has everything in his game and it was tough to play against him. I wish him well. He looks like he has a fantastic career ahead of him.”

And Luis Campos – the Lille sporting director who has openly admitted his great relationship with Jose Mourinho – even revealed that he wanted him after watching just one game before the striker eventually made his move to Wolfsburg. He said: “I went to Lagos to see the U17 World Championships. After one match I wanted him. I spoke to my CEO. I called him every night saying, ‘Please give me this player, he is amazing. In two years he will be one of the best in Europe’.”

Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?

If Mourinho ever needed a seal of approval on a potential signing, then he just got one from Campos. The Portuguese boss would do well to listen to the rave reviews of the talent-spotter.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s declining ace could be in for a rude awakening in the derby clash against Chelsea.

Everton transfer target Jean-Clair Todibo more suited to Ancelotti than Michael Keane

According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Everton are pushing hard to sign Barcelona centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo, and all of the signs point to him being more suited to the role under Carlo Ancelotti than Michael Keane is.

On the chalkboard

Keane has been a regular in the Merseyside outfit’s backline ever since his £30m move from Burnley in the summer of 2017, making 92 appearances in all competitions to date.

However, having come from Turf Moor, and with no disrespect to the Clarets, being a possession-based defender hasn’t always suited to England international, and he often can look a little clumsy and uncomfortable when on the ball and attempting to play out from the back.

Watch Everton Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

That was shown by his big mistake for England in their 5-3 win over Kosovo earlier this season, when his lapse of concentration allowed the visitors to score within the first 60 seconds, and he has also come under heavy criticism from the Goodison Park faithful on Twitter for his displays.

As per WhoScored, he also has a inferior passing success rate to centre-back partner Yerry Mina in the Premier League this term – 79% compared to 82.6% for the Colombian.

Todibo is the answer

Mina of course came from Barcelona, who will always insist that their central defenders are good on the ball.

That is clearly one of the reasons they decided to bring Todibo to the Camp Nou from Toulouse in January of this year.

The 19-year-old has made just the five appearances for the La Liga giants to date, having been described as being “a player with a lot of potential” by Eric Abidal when he signed for Barca.

Their official website labels the teenager as being ‘excellent at bringing the ball out from the back’, and the fact he has an average passing rate of 96.7% in the Spanish top flight this term – albeit in only 77 minutes on the pitch – suggests that is very much the case.

Ancelotti of course had Koulibaly last season and the beginning of this one, with the Senegal international recording a passing average of 88.7% in 35 Serie A outings for Napoli in 2018/19.

The Italian coach is said to favour centre-backs who can take the ball from the goalkeeper and play out into the midfield according to The Liverpool Echo, and the stats suggest that Todibo would be far more suited to that particular role than Keane.

In other Everton news, one 27-year-old may have convinced Carlo Ancelotti that he should be one of the Italian’s first summer signings…

Manchester United fans react to Robin van Persie’s recent comments

Manchester United suffered a rather disappointing defeat at the Emirates on Wednesday and rolled into the new year with a bad taste in their mouths.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are currently sitting in fifth in the Premier League table and while things don’t necessarily look that alarming, Arsenal beating them and keeping a clean sheet is definitely not something to be happy about.

After the game, Robin van Persie talked to BT Sport and addressed some of their issues, namely the lack of any real passes towards their forwards. Here’s what he said, as quoted by Daily Post:

“I do believe the reason why United were so flat is because the midfielders were not giving those final balls.

“Nobody was giving those balls. Rashford, I had him down for 15 great runs. Martial similar. He didn’t receive one. Why? Partly quality.”

Of course, upon seeing his verdict, many Man United fans couldn’t help but agree with the pundit, saying that he was “absolutely spot” on and that changes have to be made…

Other fans were just buzzing with his statement because they saw it as a sign that he understands their situation and is indirectly asking the board to get some reinforcements for the middle of the pitch.

They were also loving the fact that he mentioned the lack of quality as well, which seems to be a big theme surrounding their squad as a whole currently.

One fan thinks Van Persie has also confirmed that he is “Ole out” as well…

Quickfire Quiz: How much do you know about Man Utd’s history in the January transfer window?

And for those reasons, it wasn’t really that surprising to see many of the fans actually calling for him to take over the team as they see him as more competent than Solskjaer…

Elsewhere, many Man United fans were absolutely buzzing with their legend’s famous goal against Manchester City…
