Then there are his underlying numbers, which help illustrate the extent of his influence over games, as according to FBref, he ranks in the top 2% of midfielders in the Premier League this season for expected goals, the top 6% for passes into the penalty area and goal-creating actions, all per 90.

Someone who endured a tough start to life in West London, but is now as undroppable as Caicedo, is Marc Cucurella.

The Spanish left-back has been sensational for the Pensioners for well over a year now, and has proven himself to be as brilliant at the defensive side of being a full-back as he is at the offensive side.

He was excellent against the Reds at the weekend and provided the assist for Estevao’s late-late winner.

However, while these three are clear examples of successful signings under the club’s new ownership, there is one international who has become the jewel in the crown, someone whose value has exploded since moving to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's best signing under Boehly

It’ll likely come as no surprise at all that the signing in question is none other than Cole Palmer.

The former Manchester City star joined the club in the summer of 2023 for a fee of around £42.5m, including add-ons, and according to the CIES Football Observatory, is now worth up to €161m, which is about £139.5m.

In other words, the Englishman’s valuation has skyrocketed a whopping 228% in just over two years, and while that might sound absurd, it’s an increase that simply mirrors the international’s immense talent and importance to this Blues side.

For example, since making the move, the 23-year-old game-changer has made 101 appearances for the club, totalling 8095 minutes, in which he has scored 45 goals and provided 29 assists.

That translates to a world-class average of a goal involvement every 1.36 games, or every 109.39 minutes, which would be an outrageous rate of return for a number nine, but is all the more impressive considering he primarily plays on the right or in attacking midfield.

Moreover, he isn’t some flattrack bully who scores meaningless goals; he’s someone who loves the biggest stage, as he demonstrated in the Club World Cup final, with a brace and assist against Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Finally, in addition to the sheer number of goals and the important big-game goals, the former City ace is also a great entertainer, someone capable of turning defenders inside out and getting the crowd on their feet.

It’s an outlandish comparison to make, but there is certainly an element of truth in the statement from GOAL’s Sean Walsh that he’s like “Lampard, Drogba & Hazard all in one.”

Ultimately, Chelsea have made their fair share of poor signings over the last three years or so, but they’ve also made some world-class additions, none more so than Palmer.

Manchester City suffered their first defeat in October last time out as the unusually wasteful Citizens came unstuck 1-0 away at Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s visitors would register 15 shots at the home side’s goal, but even the Erling Haaland-led visitors are prone to a frustrating afternoon here and there, as a fierce Matty Cash strike in the first half ended up being the match-winner on the day.

Heading into this contest, City had powered home seven strikes across the rest of the month, with a staggering six of those efforts that found the back of the net coming directly from the lethal Norwegian.

It really does highlight how dependent Guardiola’s men are on their clinical Scandinavian to bail them out of trouble, as one of his goal-shy attacking teammates in Savinho continued his poor season to date in the West Midlands.

Why Savinho is in danger of being dropped

Thankfully, Guardiola also has Jeremy Doku, who he can fall back on down the left flank, with the Belgian boasting a far superior tally of three Premier League assists this season so far.

But, he could think outside of the box shortly when searching for talents who can surpass Savinho, with this homegrown talent certainly one to keep an eye out for.

The "unbelievable" 17-year-old who can surpass Savinho

The ultra-successful Spaniard is also a manager who isn’t afraid to test out starlets if he deems they’re first-team ready, as seen in him handing Bury-born Rico Lewis 102 senior appearances to date, after first making a name for himself at the Etihad in the U18 and U21 ranks.

Reigan Heskey will hope he’s the next up-and-coming sensation that is gifted some opportunities in the senior picture, with the 17-year-old winger already being dubbed an “unbelievable” talent for the future by one of his coaches at City in Ben Wilkinson.

He could even be the perfect solution to City’s Savinho troubles, with the Liverpool-born attacker standing out as an extremely direct option down the South American’s left channel, when looking at his flashy highlight reel above.

Indeed, across 57 appearances in various youth set-ups in Manchester, Heskey has established himself as a tricky forward option who, most importantly, has the goals and assists in his locker to back up all his tricks and flicks, with a lethal 31 goals collected.

It is for that reason that he has been likened to another Manchester-born star in the form of ex-Manchester United hero Marcus Rashford, with analyst Ben Mattinson praising his “Rashford-like ability as an inside forward to stretch the defence”.

The next major step Heskey will have to make is breaking into the first-team picture, with Guardiola actually handing him first first-ever senior opportunity just this season in the EFL Cup versus Huddersfield Town, with the young Englishman also coincidentally replacing the aforementioned Savinho for the final seven minutes.

Of course, Guardiola won’t just discard the 13-time Brazil international completely, considering he does have four goals and 15 assists next to his name in City Sky blue, away from his poor opening to this season.

But, he will surely be tempted to throw Heskey into the men’s side more regularly now to give the out-of-sorts attacker more competition, with the potential also very much there for the 17-year-old to surpass Savinho down the line, if his blistering academy numbers can be translated to the senior game.

While there have been the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, and occasionally Dilshan Madushanka putting in good bowling performances over the past few years, there has been a dearth of batting stars, and a shortage of firepower.But it has begun to feel like Sri Lanka are serious of fixing this. From the way players in the camp are talking, the message has gone out from captain Charith Asalanka especially, that bowlers have been carrying the side for too long, and that it’s time for the batters to win matches with their own performances.In the first T20I on Thursday, the bowlers were good, restricting Bangladesh to a total that was perhaps 15 runs short of par. But the batters were exceptional, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis putting on a rollicking opening stand. Right through the tour, at least one batter in the top five has contributed heavily to Sri Lanka’s victories.Bangladesh must now find ways to halt these supremely in-form players. Nissanka and Kusal Mendis are perhaps in the form of their life at the moment, while Asalanka continues to perform consistently. Which of their bowlers can deck the top order? Sri Lanka have had trials against legspinners in the past, so perhaps if Rishad Hossain was deployed earlier in the match, he might have more say on the outcome. Could Mustafizur Rahman prove a greater challenge than Taskin Ahmed, who was expensive in the first match?In the first match, Bangladesh’s batters could also have shown a bit more hustle during the middle overs especially. Bangladesh: LLLLLIn the spotlight: Dasun Shanaka and Shamim HossainIn domestic cricket, Dasun Shanaka tends to be a big-hitting monster. Although there have been moments in international cricket in which he has showcased his power, he has not done so consistently. He’s back in the team after a while outside it, and in his first game back impressed with the skill and smarts with which he bowled. His bouncers were especially useful. If he can put a couple of good batting performances together this series, he will seriously recommend himself as an option for Sri Lanka’s 2026 World Cup campaign.In cynical terms, Shamim Hossain is a “bits-and-pieces”player. These players are the sorts that captains and selectors like because they allow decision makers to hedge their bets (or so the story goes).. But analysts are increasingly against, because these sorts of players rarely contribute to victories (or so that story goes). So far on tour, Shamim has contributed a tight spell in an ODI win, and in the first T20I, hit two sixes in a five-ball innings, and took a spectacular leaping catch running back from short cover.
