Aston Villa may have been the busiest Premier League team this summer transfer window, with Unai Emery's side already acquiring Ross Barkley, Enzo Barrenechea, Lewis Dobbin, Samuel Iling-Junior, Jaden Philogene, Ian Maatsen, and Amadou Onana.

According to Transfermarkt, Villa have spent €176.2m (around £150m) so far this window and could be set to spend even more, with rumours continuing to circulate, linking them to another striker, especially if Jhon Duran leaves the club.

Sales of Moussa Diaby, Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroebunam, Morgan Sanson and Viljami Sinisalo have netted Villa €127.4m on sales (around £107m) according to Transfermarkt, and any sale of Duran would bring in another heap of money, with his valuation being set at around £40m.

According to reports from The Standard, Aston Villa have made contact with Crystal Palace over striker, Jean-Philippe Mateta. However, Palace are insisting the Frenchman is not for sale, whilst potential new contract talks are beginning to "rumble".

The report suggests Palace were willing to listen to offers for Mateta in January. However, that stance has now changed, with new manager Oliver Glasner showing a liking to the striker since he joined the club.

Mateta made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles last season, scoring 19 goals, providing five assists, and totalling 2,574 minutes of football played.

Mateta, hailed as a striker who "scores all types of goals" by writer Frankie Maguire, showed last season his ability to be one of the top scorers in the Premier League. FBref's "similar players" feature has even compared him to one of the league's other top scorers, Ollie Watkins.

Watkins made 53 appearances for Villa last season in all competitions, scoring 27 goals, providing 13 assists, and totalling 4,323 minutes of football, as an ever-present part of the team. The 28-year-old spearheaded Villa to their first Champions League qualification since the 1982/83 season.

Mateta's metrics show he is a more clinical finisher than Watkins, taking fewer shots per 90 with 1.74, and scoring more Non-Penalty Goals per 90 with 0.55 – 0.02 more than Watkins manages. The French striker has a better shots on target percentage too, getting 56.8% of his shots on target per 90, compared to only 43.9% for Watkins.

This tells you Watkins is a higher volume shooter, which we can also tell from his total shots per 90, and is willing to take on typically more difficult shots. Mateta scores at a higher rate, scoring 0.32 goals/shot per 90, compared to Watkins' 0.18.

If Duran leaves Villa, Mateta could come in and offer them a more efficient goal scorer than Watkins, either pushing the England international to take another step up, or even providing the option of playing both of them up top together.

All of this, whilst offering better value for money too, as Mateta, according to Capology, only earns £50k-per-week at Palace, compared to the £130k-per-week Watkins is earning at Villa.

If the Olympic star can get anywhere close to matching the levels of the current Villa marksman, then Emery would be in for a treat.

Meslier has long divided opinion amongst the hardened Elland Road masses, and the Frenchman will continue to be a divisive figure if he regularly puts in performances like the one served up against Portsmouth.

The towering 24-year-old only made one save all afternoon, as Pompey grew in confidence that they could catch the former Lorient 'keeper out from wherever they attempted a shot from.

That was seen in Lang's first of the exhilarating 3-3 draw somehow squirming in from distance after Meslier couldn't deal with a straightforward Elias Sørensen opener that was hit straight at him for the South Coast outfit to equalise.

The 6 foot 6 presence also looked uncomfortable at points with his distribution from the back, not helped by Joe Rodon in front of him also having an off-day with some wayward passing, with just two accurate long balls managed all afternoon, as Leeds had to make do with an unsatisfactory share of the points to start the new second tier season.

However, away from Rodon and Meslier not covering themselves in glory defensively, there was an even more underwhelming performer at the back in the form of Jayden Bogle, who struggled back in the thick of it in the Championship, after a promising set of pre-season performances.

Bogle will just hope he's getting his dodgy displays out of his system early on this campaign, as the former Sheffield United man struggled to competently complete his defensive duties all match.

The brand-new Whites number two did shine going forward in patches, with two big chances created all of his own working, but the ex-Blades right-back gave away the penalty that nearly allowed Portsmouth to win 3-2, before Aaronson's last-gasp heroics.

Bogle failed to impose himself into the contest as a strong and brave full-back, with only nine duels won from 19 attempted, alongside many lax passes going astray, with possession surrendered 15 times to allow Mousinho's outfit regular ways back into the exciting contest.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth dished out a low 4/10 rating to Bogle consequently, stating that he was 'bizarrely' positioned for Portsmouth's first strike amongst other faults in his game.

It will be interesting to see if Farke persists with his new capture here, when the Whites open their EFL Cup campaign versus Middlesbrough this mid-week, or if he chooses to start the likes of Sam Byram or other reserve defenders in his place after the 24-year-old really struggled back in competitive action. Perhaps Byram is the way to go mid-week.

There'll be many twists and turns to come this up-and-down Championship season, but Leeds fans will be worried that a slow start out of the blocks could be costly early on, on the way to promotion attempting to be sealed.

– Trabalhar como treinador no Brasil é muito difícil. Muitas vezes comparamos o Abel ao sistema que o Jesus fez no Flamengo. Não se pode comparar. Sharjeel Khan’s PSL form has been rewarded with a recall to the national side for the first time in over four years, as he was included in Pakistan’s T20I squad for the tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe next month.Sharjeel was the third-highest corer in this year’s curtailed PSL season, finishing only behind Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, but at a fantastic strike rate of 170.94, well ahead of what the other two recorded. Sharjeel, playing for the Karachi Kings, was the only player to score a hundred in this edition, against the Islamabad United.The recall capped an eventful four years for the left-handed opener, who was out of the game altogether for two and a half of them, banned for his part in the 2017 PSL spot-fixing scandal.There have, however, been question marks about Sharjeel’s fitness. “Fitness isn’t the only criteria for selection – at the end of the day, a player has to play cricket. We are already working on reviewing the fitness testing levels and will introduce a new strategy [to gauge fitness],” Mohammad Wasim, Pakistan’s chief selector, said in a press conference. “I didn’t comment on Sharjeel’s fitness earlier as his performances [last year] were patchy, but now we have to look at anyone who performs, whatever the fitness they have.”Yes, I understand there is still a lot work that needs to be done on his fitness and he will improve with time, but at the moment he can win us big games with his bat.”The view on Sharjeel’s fitness marked something of a U-turn for the PCB. Fazendo valer o fator casa, a equipe de Allan Aal não quis saber de deixar o líder Coritiba ir para cima nos primeiros minutos. Entretanto, mesmo não ficando muito com a posse de bola, conseguiu criar uma boa chance antes dos 10 minutos com Jajá, aproveitando erro da defesa adversária, mas seu arremate acabou indo para fora por muito pouco.

Aos 4, após cobrança de escanteio de Diego Torres, Gum, sem precisar subir para cabecear, mandou no cantinho sem chances para o goleiro Wilson fazendo 1 a 0.

Porém a comemoração durou pouco. Correndo atrás do empate, praticamente na sequência, aos 9, também em um cruzamento, porém de Rafinha, Igor Paixão conseguiu levar a melhor, mandando com estilo para o fundo das redes, igualando tudo.

Confronto ganha momentos de emoção até a reta final

Precisando da vitória para entrar no G4 da competição, o Galo não estava disposto a ficar no empate. Voltando a ditar o ritmo, chegou com perigo algumas vezes com Pablo Dyego, fazendo com que Allan Aal fizesse algumas mudanças aumentando seu poder ofensivo optando pelas entradas de Wesley e Emerson Negueba, porém com Gustavo Morínigo também recuando aos seus suplentes colocando William Alves, Gustavo Bochecha e João Vitor.

Feitas as substituições, o time alagoano praticamente armou uma blitz na área adversária. Aproveitando até os 5 minutos de acréscimos dados pelo árbitro, tentou encontrar espaços entre a zaga, mas acabou frustrando a torcida ao apito final no Rei Pelé que decretou o empate entre as equipes em 1 a 1.

خسر فريق الكرة الأول بنادي الزمالك أمام نظيره مودرن سبورت، بهدف دون رد في اللقاء الذي أقيم بينهما مساء اليوم الخميس ضمن مواجهات الدوري المصري.

وفرضت السلبية كلمتها على الـ45 دقيقة الأولى نتيجة وأداء لينتهي الشوط الأول بنتيجة 0-0، فيما سعى الزمالك في الشوط الثاني بمنتهى القوة لتسجيل هدف التقدم ولكن صمود دفاع مودرن سبورت حال دون ذلك.

وشهدت الدقيقة 80 إهدار الزمالك فرصة خطيرة بعد أن تصدى محمو جنش لرأسية حمزة المثلوثي ثم عاد ليتصدى لتسديدة أحمد زيزو ببراعة.

وقبل نهاية اللقاء بدقائق قليلة، نجح جوزيف جوناثان في اختراق دفاع الزمالك بـ “وان تو” مع علي زعزع لينفرد بالحارس محمد عواد ويسجل هدف فريقه الأول.

الجدير بالذكر، أن فوز مودرن سبورت اليوم على الزمالك، يعتبر الأول له هذا الموسم بعد تسع جولات، والأول على حساب الفارس الأبيض في تاريخ مواجهتهما.

بتلك النتيجة يفرط الزمالك في صدارة ترتيب الدوري التي يحتلها فريق بيراميدز بـ20 نقطة بعد تعثر الأهلي بتعادل أمام فاركو، ليتجمد رصيد الفارس الأبيض عند 17 نقطة في المركز الثالث.

ونال الزمالك اليوم خسارته الثانية بعد خوضه 9 مباريات، فيما حقق الفوز في 5 لقاءات، وتعادل مرتين.
