Rashford has struggled at United since the beginning of last season. Having scored 17 Premier League goals in 2022-23, Rashford netted just seven last season, and has yet to register a goal contribution this term. As a result of his poor form, the 26-year-old was left out of England's Euro 2024 squad.

Rashford may well be targeting a return to the international fold under interim manager Lee Carsley but he was not included in his first squad, and Shearer believes he must look for a fresh start away from Old Trafford if he is to get back into the fold.

WHAT SHEARER SAID

Shearer told : "In his current form, I don't see Marcus Rashford reviving his England career. I personally don’t know his mentality, or what his approach is in terms of training, but there's only one way back, which is to train and have the right attitude.

"But looking from the outside, for me, he should have left Man United to reignite his career because he's gone very static for whatever reason, and it hasn't worked for him for a while now. Only Marcus can answer how much he wants to get back to scoring 30 goals a season."

Weah back in training for JuventusWinger injured Aug. 19Missed September international window with USAWHAT HAPPENED?

Tim Weah could be close to a return to pitch after suffering a minor injury on Aug. 19 against Como in Juventus' Serie A opener.

The 24-year-old U.S. international returned to his club's training ground, Juventus shared Wednesday. It's a welcome boost for Juventus and the U.S. national team as the winger spent three weeks in rehabilitation following his injury.

Weah missed the September international window with the USMNT, a period that saw them fall 2-1 to Canada and then draw New Zealand 1-1. The winger's absence was well-noted, as the U.S. saw a lackluster attack fall short in both matches.

His return for Juventus is important for manager Thiago Motta, too, who lost winger Federico Chiesa late in August after the Italy international secured a transfer to England with Liverpool. Weah has been transitioned from wing-back to his natural position at winger this season and scored his first Serie A goal prior to his injury.

Whether or not Weah will be fit for the weekend remains to be seen, though.

Weah's only other goal scored for Juventus came in the Coppa Italia, a 6-1 win over Salernitana. would lift the Coppa that same season.

Everton eyeing instant Onana replacement with £102m release clause

Everton have been heavily restricted as to what they can spend in recent transfer windows, following their recent financial situation which resulted in an eight-point deduction last season.

Sean Dyche’s side have desperately lacked investment, with the club needing to act in a sensible manner this window if they are to pull further clear of any looming relegation worries.

He brought in Udinese striker Beto for £30m last summer, but the 26-year-old only managed to score three times in the Premier League in a disappointing campaign for the Portuguese frontman.

It was certainly a bold move from the club to splash that amount of money on a new talisman given their PSR troubles and it appears to be a move that has backfired, with Beto failing to make the impact he would’ve envisaged.

However, despite his failings at Goodison Park, Dyche and Co are looking to recruit another Portuguese talent on Merseyside, with the club looking to splash some of the cash they may potentially raise during the window.

Everton set to reignite interest in January target

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Toffees are still interested in Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, despite having a €30m (£25.5m) bid rejected for the 24-year-old in January.

The Benfica academy graduate, who has a €120m (£102m) release clause in his current contract, wouldn’t require a big anywhere near that figure for the Portuguese club to part ways with their talent.

florentino-luis-nottingham-forest-transfer-news-premier-league

Jacobs also goes on to state that despite the uncertainty around the club’s ownership, the Toffees will reignite interest in Luis ahead of the summer window in an attempt to bolster their midfield.

He’s featured 30 times in Liga Portugal during 2022/23, with only 17 of those appearances coming from the starting lineup, featuring for a total of 1,683 minutes under boss Roger Schmidt.

Whilst it may seem surprising that the club are willing to spend big given their financial woes, they may be able to reinvest with Amadou Onana rumoured to be available to leave the club for £60m this summer.

Why Florentino Luis would be the perfect Onana replacement

Whilst many fans would be devastated to see Onana depart Goodison Park this summer, they simply can’t turn down a bid over £50m – a figure that would see the club make at least a £17m profit in just two years.

However, should the 21-year-old depart the club Merseyside, Luis would be the ideal replacement for Onana, with his stats proving how much of an upgrade he would be for Dyche’s side.

It’s very evident that the Portuguese talent is more confident than the Belgian, who has largely been seen as a ball-winning player for Dyche’s side.

He averages 74 passes per 90, with 89% of the passes he’s attempted this campaign finding a teammate, 7.6 of which are progressive, with Luis eager to play the ball forward.

Unfortunately, Onana can't get anywhere those tallies this season, with his figure of 45 passes and 4.6 progressive passes respectively, considerably short of the 24-year-old Benfica sensation.

Despite his tackling ability, the Everton midfielder has been outclassed by the “superb” ace, as described by Jacek Kulig, with Florentino producing some simply sensational numbers this campaign, having been hailed as "the kind of player every coach would like to have in their squad" by former Benfica coach Joao Tralhao.

He averages one more tackle than the Toffees’ star midfielder, whilst also making nearly three times more interceptions per 90, albeit in a lower-quality division

Onana has been excellent during his time on Merseyside, but with his rumoured departure and Luis’ ability with and without the ball, Dyche and the board simply must focus on a deal for the Benfica talent, with the ace having the ability to transform the club’s midfield.

Everton targeting "dominant" ace who'd be the perfect Branthwaite successor

He’s previously endured a tough spell in the PL, but has impressed this campaign.

Mohammad Hafeez self-isolating after biosecurity protocol breach

Hafeez tweeted a photo of him interacting with a member of the public

Matt Roller12-Aug-2020Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan allrounder, has been told to self-isolate after breaching biosecurity protocols by posing for a photo with a member of the public.Hafeez posted the photo, taken on the golf course adjacent to the on-site hotel at the Ageas Bowl, on Twitter on Wednesday morning, saying: “Met an inspirational young lady today morning [sic] at golf course. She is 90+ & living her life healthy & happily. Good healthy routine.”While players have been permitted to use the golf course at the Ageas Bowl, they have been advised to avoid interaction with anyone outside the biosecure bubble, since the course is still open to the public. The ECB’s medical team were made aware of the photo, and a PCB statement confirmed that Hafeez had been instructed to isolate “for his [safety] and the safety and security of everyone around him”.ALSO READ: Cox dropped by Kent for Covid-19 protocol breachHafeez underwent a Covid-19 test on Wednesday afternoon, and the PCB said that he would be free to join back up with the rest of the touring party “at some stage” on Thursday provided his test result is negative. Hafeez is not part of the Test squad, and is on the tour ahead of the three-match T20I series starting August 28.The sanction is lenient when compared to other breaches. Phil Simmons and Joe Root were both asked to self-isolate for five days and return two negative tests following their departures from the bubble for a funeral and a birth respectively, while Jofra Archer was also required to self-isolate for five days and return two negatives after stopping off at his flat when travelling from Southampton to Manchester. An ECB spokesperson confirmed that the discrepancy was because Hafeez had not officially left the bubble. On Tuesday, Kent announced that batsman Jordan Cox had been dropped for their next Bob Willis Trophy match after posing for a photograph with a member of the public, meaning he was forced to enter self-isolation and miss their next match this week – a similar offence to that committed by Hafeez.”This morning, Mohammad Hafeez went to a golf course, which is adjacent to the team hotel and part of the bio-secure bubble,” a PCB statement said. “During the golf round, he was photographed with a member of the public, which he subsequently posted on his social media account.”As it was evident from the photograph that Hafeez had breached the two-metre social distancing protocol and following a consultation process with the team doctor, the team management has decided to isolate him until he returns a negative Covid-19 test.”The decision to put Hafeez in isolation has been taken for his and, the safety and security of everyone around him. The team management believes it was an inadvertent mistake, but a good reminder for everyone on the importance of following the bio-secure protocols, which have been designed for the health and safety of everyone involved in the series.”The team management has updated the England and Wales Cricket Board of its decision.”Before travelling, Hafeez tested positive for Covid-19, before deciding to get tested privately himself and returning a negative test. He then returned two more negative tests, meaning he was allowed to travel to the UK.1600 BST – This story was updated to include details of Hafeez’s self-isolation

Poch must part ways with Chelsea man who’s played less than Nkunku

Chelsea's 2023/24 season came to an end on Sunday as they beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to finish sixth in the Premier League table.

The Blues achieved a sixth-placed finish and are now set to host European football next term, having gone through the current campaign without any Champions League, Europa League, or Europa Conference League games.

Mauricio Pochettino will now have a number of decisions to make during the upcoming summer transfer window as he shapes the squad for the new season.

One player who must be ruthlessly ditched from the squad by the Argentine head coach is central midfielder Cesare Casadei, who should be shipped out on loan or sold permanently if a good enough offer comes in.

Cesare Casadei's time with Leicester in numbers

The Italy U21 international spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Leicester City in the Championship but failed to nail down a place as a regular starter in Enzo Maresca's side.

Despite the Foxes' dominance in the second tier, as they went on to win the division, the Chelsea youngster could not showcase much in the way of attacking quality when on the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, Casadei underperformed in front of goal with the quality of chances that were created for him and failed to provide a single assist for his teammates in 22 matches, only eight of which came as a starter.

He also made just 1.2 tackles and interceptions combined per game and lost 51% of his duels, which shows that the youngster did not make up for his lack of attacking quality with strong defensive work.

Why Chelsea should move Cesare Casadei on

Pochettino opted to bring the Italian gem back to Stamford Bridge to be part of his first-team squad for the second half of the campaign but the 6 foot 1 talent did not do enough to suggest that he should be kept around next season.

Casadei, who was once hailed as "powerful" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, went on to play 11 times in the Premier League over the past five months, all of which came as a substitute.

Cesare Casadei

He played 99 minutes of top-flight action for the Blues and produced zero interceptions, zero goals, zero assists, and zero 'big chances' created in that time.

This meant that the 21-year-old midfielder ended the Premier League season with even fewer minutes than Christopher Nkunku (437), despite the French forward having missed a whopping 39 matches through various injury issues.

The former RB Leipzig star battled back through his fitness problems to score three goals in 11 league appearances for the Blues, whilst Casadei did not do enough with his time on the pitch.

His lack of starts and complete lack of impact on the pitch off the bench suggests that Chelsea must now brutally ditch the youngster this summer, whether that is on loan or permanently.

Chelsea star who won 11 duels simply has to become a regular next season

The Blues star put in a fantastic display on the final day vs Bournemouth to give Chelsea a great chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

ByDan Emery May 20, 2024

Casadei's lacklustre performances, both in the Championship for Leicester and in the Premier League for the Blues, show that he is unlikely to be a useful player for Pochettino next term, which is why he should be brutally parted ways with ahead of next season.

Ben Slater's career-best 172 drives Leicestershire's victory chance

Loan batsman proves worth as late wickets leave Lancashire with much to do on final day

ECB Reporters Network03-Aug-2020Lancashire 322 (Vilas 90, Croft 63) and 96 for 3 (Davies 54) lead Leicestershire 409 for 8 (Slater 172, Ackermann 94, Azad 58) by nine runs Ben Slater hit a career-best 172 and Colin Ackermann 94 as Leicestershire declared with a first-innings lead of 87 before taking three early wickets as opponents Lancashire closed the third day just nine runs ahead in the Bob Willis Trophy match being played at Blackfinch New Road.Keaton Jennings went caught at third slip off Chris Wright for 8, the ball looping off an inside edge and his pads, Josh Bohannon was leg before wicket to a full delivery from Ben Mike for 3, and Alex Davies leg before for 54 missing a pull at a delivery from left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson that went on with the arm to give the Foxes real hope of forcing victory on the final day.Slater, signed by Leicestershire on a two-week loan from Nottinghamshire, shared in a partnership of 165 with Ackermann, a third-wicket record for Leicestershire against Lancashire, beating the 163-run partnership between James Bradshaw and Norman Armstrong at Leicester’s old Aylestone Road ground in 1929.Ackermann was positive from the start when his side resumed on 183 for 2, looking to get forward where possible against an inexperienced bowling attack including three men making their first-class debuts in seamers Ed Moulton and George Balderson, and left-arm spinner Tom Hartley. All bowled straight and to their fields, however, and on a good, dry but slightly slow pitch, Ackermann and Slater found it hard to work the ball to the boundary. Slater kept the scoreboard moving with singles as he worked his way towards 150, going in to lunch on 143 off 318 balls, while Ackermann hit seven fours in reaching 50 off 88 deliveries. Only one chance was created, when Ackermann, on 47, drove a delivery from Balderson that stopped a little in the pitch back towards the young bowler, who was unable to hold the catch very low to his left.It was a different story after the interval as Leicestershire looked to secure a fourth batting bonus point. Having passed 150, Slater lofted Tom Bailey for consecutive sixes over long-on, but a third attempt landed in the hands of Bohannon at deep mid-off.George Rhodes came and went quickly in the search for quick runs, driving Bailey to Dave Vilas at cover, but Ackermann, on 94, looked certain to reach a century of his own until he was called through for an unlikely second run by Tom Taylor and failed to beat Jennings’ throw from the midwicket boundary. When Taylor went lbw hitting across the line at Balderson and Harry Swindells was bowled trying to improvise against Hartley’s left-arm spin, Leicestershire had lost five wickets for 43 runs, but Mike, Klein and Parkinson saw them past 400 before Ackermann declared to ensure the Foxes were able to bowl before tea.Neither Jennings nor Davies were troubled during the seven overs they did bowl before the break, but Jennings’ unfortunate dismissal, followed by those of Bohannon and Davies, means much will depend on Lancashire’s in-form captain Dave Vilas, who was unbeaten on 7 at the close. Before play began, match umpire Alec Swann confirmed Leicestershire seamer Klein had been handed a three-point penalty and a reprimand after being adjudged to have committed a level two offence under Law 43, throwing the ball at another player in an inappropriate and dangerous manner. The incident occurred on the second day of the game, when Klein threw the ball at the stumps but hit Lancashire batsman Danny Lamb on the foot.

Everton eyeing "incredible" Onana replacement who’s never won at Goodison

It could be a long summer transfer window at Everton, who are already reportedly eyeing a move to sign a midfielder who could replace Amadou Onana, should the Belgian decide to leave Goodison Park in the coming months.

Everton transfer news

In an ideal world, Everton wouldn't need to sell players of Onana's quality, but without the completion of a takeover and concerns over even more FFP sanctions, the Belgium international is reportedly a player they are willing to sacrifice in a big-money sale with the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain interested in his signature.

Everton struck gold on "top-class" signing who's worth more than Phillips

He’s catapulted himself into a key player under Sean Dyche this season.

ByEthan Lamb May 29, 2024

The sale would follow Sean Dyche's earlier prediction, having admitted to The Guardian at the start of May: "If the [777] takeover doesn’t happen, or a takeover, then it will probably be juggling dust, not sand.

"Because who knows then? You are having to self-generate everything then, I would imagine, because it’s not like there is a pile of cash anywhere so you’ve got to self-generate. And if you self-generate, how do you get in what you are losing? If someone leaves, how do you get the next one in who is as good as the one leaving? There is no time for development [of young players] because this club hasn’t got time for that.”

With that said, if Everton do sell Onana, they'll still need a replacement and reports suggest that they've lined one up in the form of a former Premier League loanee. According to TuttoJuve, Everton are eyeing a move to sign Weston McKennie alongside interest from both Newcastle United and Aston Villa in a deal that would be worth between €20m and €25m (£17m and £21m) this summer.

Whether Everton will be able to afford such a fee remains to be seen, however, in what sums up their struggles once and for all ahead of a difficult few months.

"Incredible" McKennie isn't without his risks

Whatever Everton spend this summer, they must make sure that every deal makes a significant enough impact to prove worthwhile, and after McKennie's failed stint on loan at Leeds United last season, he's a risk they must weigh up. Goodison Park saw the American and the rest of his Leeds teammates fall short in a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park in the last campaign in a crucial result in the relegation battle, but he has since bounced back at Juventus.

Whilst Onana's ability off the ball is better, McKennie's creative output and ball-carrying ability would hand Everton an added dynamic alongside the similar Abdoulaye Doucoure.

What's more, even whilst at Leeds, McKennie earned plenty of praise, including from former manager Jesse Marsch, who said via Leeds Live: "He's got incredible flexibility and can play almost any position on the pitch and I've seen that. He's aggressive, he's confident and he has quality.

"At Schalke they played a little bit similar to the things that I like to do, so now even sitting and talking to him about what we think his role will be, he's pretty clear on how to integrate himself. Training over the past week, he's been outstanding."

Brendon McCullum: Shubman Gill will be 'part of leadership group' at Kolkata Knight Riders

Morgan will be the perfect foil for Karthik as a vice-captain, says the team’s head coach

ESPNcricinfo staff19-Aug-2020Dinesh Karthik is ready “to really take ownership of the [Kolkata] Knight Riders set-up and back his judgement”, while Shubman Gill will be part of the team’s leadership group “at least in some capacity”, according to Brendon McCullum, the two-time IPL-winning franchise’s head coach.Karthik, who has been captain of the team for the past couple of seasons, and Eoin Morgan, the England white-ball captain, are the natural frontmen of the team, with the likes of Andre Russell and Pat Cummins among the senior players around, but McCullum has identified 20-year-old Gill as someone the team can “lean on for some leadership throughout this season”.”What a talent, and what a good guy as well,” McCullum, who is currently at the CPL as head coach of Trinbago Knight Riders, said in an interview with . “He is going to be a part of our leadership group this year as well, at least in some capacity. Even though he is young, I am a big believer that it’s not necessarily true that you having played for a long time makes you a good leader. It’s about you exhibiting the behaviours of a leader.

We’ve obviously already got the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, but to have added Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan in particular to that leadership group, and also provide him behind the scenes with some support staff who will be able to assist DK as wellBrendon McCullum

“It’s always good to have a cross-section of leadership within your group. To us, Shubman is one of those guys we would look to lean on for some leadership throughout this season.”Under Karthik, who took over in 2018 after Gautam Gambhir had led the team to two titles, Knight Riders made the playoffs in 2018 but finished just outside the top four, at No. 5 in 2019.Asked what about Karthik has stood out for him, McCullum said, “You’ve got to break DK down a little bit into different parts to understand this. I think first and foremost, wicketkeeping. He’s up there with the very best wicketkeepers in India. Then you move on to his batting and he’s as good and as adaptable in any role. He doesn’t come with perhaps, the stardom that some guys do and that’s just DK’s personality. But he’s a big star within the KKR franchise, he’s now been at the helm for a couple of years and he’s had some success.”The team hasn’t quite got over the line, but I think DK is in that stage in his leadership where he’s almost ready to really mature and to really take ownership of the Knight Riders set-up and back his judgement. What we tried to do throughout the auction process as well was to provide him with some strong leadership on the field. We’ve obviously already got the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, but to have added Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan in particular to that leadership group, and also provide him behind the scenes with some support staff who will be able to assist DK as well.Back to the drawing board – Brendon McCullum during a KKR training session in 2012•Getty Images”I think there’ll be a nice layer of leadership around DK where he’s able to really prosper and touch all of the members of the Kolkata line up to try and get the very best out of themselves. I love DK as a person. He’s quite intense at times which I love, we just need to provide him with some support. His passion for the game and his love of people is just infectious.”Morgan, meanwhile, is one of the players who might miss the first few games for Knight Riders, as he will reach the UAE – the team’s base is likely to be Abu Dhabi – only after England’s home white-ball series against Australia. That ends on September 16, just three days before the start of IPL 2020, but Morgan, as well as the others, would need to serve the mandatory quarantine in the UAE upon arrival too.”Some years back (2012), we played with each other at KKR and that relationship and that friendship really took off right from the word go. We like the same sorts of things – we enjoy playing golf, we enjoy horse racing…,” McCullum said. “I think we’re very similar kinds of people, to be honest. We love the game, and we play it for the camaraderie, the friendships, the experiences that it gives you for the rest of your life. We don’t necessarily play it just for that moment.”Eoin has been nothing short of inspirational in what he’s been able to achieve in the last four-four-and-a-half years with England.”Let’s not forget, he’s an Irishman. And for an Irishman to have left home at the age that he did, to have taken the plunge and said ‘I want to go and further my career and make a real fist of this’ to now becoming the England captain, and a world cup winning captain at that – just phenomenal. I think he’s the perfect foil for DK as a vice-captain. It’s a match made in heaven in regards to an IPL franchise. You’ve got that overseas experience and leadership and you’ve got the local leader. I think it’s a really nice mix.”

The England captain moved to Germany in the summer of 2023 expecting to get his hands on silverware of some description during his debut campaign. That was not to be the case, with Bayern enduring a rare season without success – despite their No.9 hitting 44 goals across all competitions.

Kane is determined to right those wrongs and has already been back in the goal-getting groove this season. After grabbing hat-tricks in back-to-back Bundesliga and Champions League games, he netted again in a 5-0 mauling of Werder Bremen to take him to double figures already.

WHAT KANE SAID

Next up for Bayern is a home date with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, with Kane saying of the immediate past, present and future: “It was a great week. Congratulations to the lads for the right attitude and mentality. We played an away game against opponents [Werder] who had remained unbeaten in the league for a while. The way we played with and without possession is the kind of style we want to show in the upcoming games as well. You could tell that we kept pushing, even after the second and third goals.

“We are Bayern Munich. It's definitely going to be a different game against Leverkusen. They showed last season how strong they are. It's going to be a tough game.
