Man Utd should avoid Barca’s Dembele

Manchester United’s search for a natural right-winger goes on and has circled back around to FC Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

According to Sport, the Red Devils have continued contact with the Catalan giants regarding the signing of the Frenchman after failing to agree a deal last summer.

Ed Woodward needs to move on though as Dembele is not the player they need, despite his immense promise.

The winger, now 23 years of age, has not had the most inspiring of times since his big-money arrival at the Camp Nou from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

In the near four years since, he has played just 109 games for the Spaniards, scoring 28 times and providing a further 20 assists.

Due to a combination of a lack of form and injury issues, he has started on average just under 18 matches per season in all competitions whilst missing an average of just under 21 matches through injury each campaign.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=” Latest Man United transfer rumours and news!”]

Considering the Red Devils’ injury problems in forward positions this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not need another one of his attacking options consistently being restricted to the treatment table.

Having said that, it is clear that Dembele is a talented player. At just the age of 23, he has represented Dortmund and Barcelona, whilst having also having accumulated 23 caps for World Champions France.

Meanwhile, former Barca President Josep Bartomeu even suggested that the Frenchman was a “much better player than Neymar”.

However, due to his persistent injury woes at the Camp Nou, Dembele is yet to prove that.

Now rated at £45m, considerably more than some of the Reds’ alternative targets Raphinha, Pedro Neto and Ismaila Sarr, it would be quite an expense to bring him to Old Trafford.

The club then should continue their extensive search for their much sought-after right-winger elsewhere.

Crystal Palace recruitment guru may leave

Manchester United have made a move for Crystal Palace recruitment specialist Jamahl Jarrett.

The Daily Mail shared the news on Friday, which led to numerous Eagles fans sharing their thoughts on the off-field development on social media.

According to the report, the Red Devils are set to bring in Jarrett, currently assistant head of academy recruitment at Selhurst Park, to be their lead southern scout.

Jarrett has been with Palace for 10 years, six of which have been in a full-time position.

But it now seems as if he will end his association at Selhurst Pak by making a move to the Old Trafford outfit.

The 32-year-old is highly thought of and was the co-founder of South London club Lambeth Tigers in 2010, where he has since helped more than 250 youngsters go on to join high-level youth set-ups around the country.

Liverpool fans react to Koopmeiners rumour

A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting positively to rumours linking the Reds with a move for midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

This summer could see some new faces arrive at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to freshen up his squad and continue to build for the future. Wholesale changes aren’t required, but there are a nucleus of players in and around 30 years of age, so the Liverpool manager can’t afford things to grow stagnant.

Midfield is arguably the Reds’ most congested area of the pitch, with the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and James Milner all excellent options.

It could be that Wijnaldum moves on at the end of the season, however, as he continues to be linked with a summer move to Barcelona.

According to Calciomercato, Koopmeiners is being viewed as a possible replacement for the 30-year-old, with the AZ Alkmaar captain scoring 15 goals in 28 Eredivisie games this season.

The 23-year-old seems to be an exciting option and it may be a story worth keeping an eye on, especially if Wijnaldum eventually decides to leave Anfield.

Celtic: Edouard could leave for £8m

Odsonne Edouard could end up leaving Celtic for as little as £8m this summer.

That’s according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, who have been informed by a recruitment source that the 23-year-old’s camp believes he can seal a Parkhead exit at the end of the campaign in a deal worth between £8m and 10m.

Edouard is entering the final 12 months of his Hoops contract in the summer, and regardless of who comes in to replace Neil Lennon, he wants to leave the club ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The Frenchman has netted 81 times in 162 appearances in green and white, but it seems as if his days at Celtic Park are numbered.

Transfer Tavern take

Should Celtic sell at £8m over the coming months, the Hoops could be in line to make an embarrassing loss on a player they valued at £40m last summer. They paid Paris Saint-Germain £9.27m back in 2018 and owe the French giants a whopping 40% of any sale.

Therefore, should an £8m transfer go through, Celtic would have to hand over £3.2m to PSG, leaving the Hoops with the remaining £4.8m – a £4.47m loss on the £9.27m they forked out three years ago.

There has been talk that AC Milan could offer loanee Diego Laxalt plus cash for Edouard’s services this summer, so that could be a possible avenue for the Hoops to explore over the coming months going off this latest update.

Gers fans love Barisic comments

Glasgow Rangers were delighted with comments from left-back Borna Barisic ahead of the Scottish Cup fourth round on Sunday.

The Gers will face Celtic in an Old Firm derby this weekend in the Cup as they look to make it through to the quarter-finals. With the Premiership title already having been sewn up, the Ibrox outfit are in with a chance of a domestic double.

Ahead of the clash, Celtic manager John Kennedy said the Bhoys are the best team in the country on their day (The Scottish Sun), even though they currently trail the Gers by 20 points in the league table (BBC). During the Gers’ pre-match press confidence, Barisic said it is the biggest joke he has heard – he was clearly not impressed with what Kennedy had to say.

The comments were shared on the Gers’ official Twitter page, and they attracted plenty attention from the club’s supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

RFC: Fans react to Gerrard’s comments

Fans of Glasgow Rangers have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which the Gers relayed the post-match comments of Steven Gerrard following the club’s draw with St Johnstone on Wednesday.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park, the Gers boss claimed that a number of his decisions made in the match were “all about the weekend,” when Rangers, rather coincidentally, play St Johnstone once again in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup.

However, the 40-year-old did claim that it was a shame his side couldn’t “see the game out” having taken the lead, although admitted that he felt Jack Simpson’s barge on Christopher Kane, which led to St Johnstone’s 95th-minute equaliser from the spot, “was a penalty,” despite reports suggesting the referee’s decision was debatable.

And, after Rangers relayed footage of Gerrard’s comments on Twitter, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing somewhat dumbstruck by their manager’s belief that Simpson’s challenge warranted a spot-kick.

So, what exactly did these Rangers fans have to say in reaction to Steven Gerrard’s post-match comments?

“Can’t believe he thought it was a penalty. Everything else makes sense.”

@madeinedzell

“He’s obviously not seen that back if he thinks it is a penalty.”

@WATP115

“Ngl that’s a really bad interview from him.”

@rfcggg84

“Was a penalty?!”

@CrossleyJimbo

“I’m surprised at his attitude towards this game.”

@JKennedy08332

“Baffled Gerrard thinks one if not both are penalties against us, I’m just not seeing it. Especially the second. Possible he’s picking his battles. The rest I’m on board with.”

@RustyBaw72

“He’s lost it. How on earth is he saying that was a penalty?”

Leicester must move for Abraham

Leicester City have been linked with a surprise move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Foxes are interested in the England forward and could potentially make a move should Chelsea be interested in selling in the near future.

He could actually be Brendan Rodgers and Jon Rudkin’s perfect solution to the Jamie Vardy conundrum.

Despite having scored 14 goals in all competitions this season, the forward has shown signs of slowing down. He has scored just once in the entirety of 2021 and at the age of 34, thoughts of replacing him could already be on the minds of the hierarchy at the King Power Stadium.

That is where Abraham comes in.

The Chelsea man has already displayed his eye for goal in the Premier League having netted 15 times last season under Frank Lampard, whilst he has also managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions in all competitions this time around.

At just the age of 23, Abraham, who was once hailed as “exciting” by record Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer, there is certainly potential to improve those numbers even more.

Whilst it could be argued that any deal for the Chelsea man would be unnecessarily costly with the six-time England international being rated at £36m and still having two years left to run on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, it could actually be easier getting him to move to the East-Midlands than first thought.

Since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea, Abraham has been restricted to the sidelines in favour of the likes of Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner. He was also left out of the Blues’ squad to face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.

Should he express a desire for first-team football and indeed to leave Chelsea, then Leicester could well profit by making a move.

The Foxes then should certainly be pursuing a switch for Abraham this summer.

Celtic: Backroom staff playing huge role in Howe deal

The timeline of Celtic’s season is enough to drag you to depression if you’re a Hoops supporter.

It has been a wretched campaign that will end without a trophy at Parkhead for the first time in around a decade. They could also end the term without a first-team manager.

What’s the word?

Neil Lennon left the Bhoys nine weeks ago but majority shareholder Dermot Desmond is finding life difficult in terms of finding a replacement.

Roy Keane has twice emerged on the scene but it’s Eddie Howe who appears to be their number one choice.

Unfortunately, there have been a number of complications holding a deal up.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, reliable journalist Alan Nixon made a big claim on the major reason behind the delay.

Responding to a fan who asked if Howe’s backroom staff demands were an issue, he said: “It’s a huge factor in this.”

Desmond fuming

This has been a ridiculous scenario for the club’s main shareholder and it doesn’t look like ending anytime soon.

After such an arduous season the last thing the Bhoys needed was another lengthy saga, especially when there’s so much to address this summer.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-lampard-klimala-ajer-gossip” title= “Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

Desmond and indeed the entire club are being left in the lurch right now and if we’re seeking a resolution, we may not have one until the end of next month.

There is good news in the sense that Richard Hughes is reportedly no longer a major factor for Howe but he still wants some of the Bournemouth coaching staff to join him at Paradise.

He is keen on seeing Stephen Purches and Stephen Weatherstone come with him but the Cherries are right in the middle of a promotion hunt.

The Championship play-off finals aren’t until May 29th so it might not be before then that we hear news of a new manager. If the south-coast side successfully negotiates their way back to the top-flight then it will cost Celtic more financially to prise Purches and Weatherstone away.

That’s because they will be due pay rises. On top of that, they will also have the lure of Premier League football to keep them in England.

This is a situation that must be leaving Desmond tearing his hair out. Whatever way you look at it, there is no swift remedy.

AVFC: Fans react to Dean Smith’s comments on Trezeguet

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to Dean Smith’s comments on winger Trezeguet after they appeared on social media.

Trezeguet last featured for the club last month in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, with the £9m-rated man going off with a knee injury against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He scored his first Premier League goals of the season the week prior to the trip to Merseyside, coming off the bench to net twice in a 3-1 win over Fulham.

Smith had this to say about Trezeguet’s situation when talking ahead of Villa’s clash with Everton, as reported by Birmingham Live.

“He’s had a significant knee injury which is normally nine months. We never like to put a time frame on injuries but that’s the average time to come back. Some come back earlier, some come back later.”

Villa confirmed days following the injury that the Egypt international suffered knee ligament damage at Anfield and would have an operation as a result.

Villa fans react

Those comments from Smith were shared by @AVFC_News on Friday lunchtime, with a number of Villa supporters interacting with the post.

This is what some had to say in reply to the manager’s comments, with many not exactly thrilled.

Rangers midfielder Barjonas looking for new club

According to an Ibrox source, speaking to Football Insider, Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas is now looking for a new club after learning he will not be offered a new deal with the Teddy Bears under manager Steven Gerrard.

The Lowdown: Barjonas on the move?

The 22-year-old has apparently been deemed surplus-to-requirements and is out of contract at the end of this month, leading to reports that he could be set for an exit from the Glasgow giants.

Barjonas had been in talks with USL side Orange County but a move failed to materialise, with several Scottish Championship clubs also displaying interest during that time (Daily Record).

The midfielder has played for the Gers senior team but first team opportunities have been more and more limited – and that has resulted in links to a departure.

The Latest: Ibrox source shares Barjonas update

Now, speaking to Football Insider, an Ibrox source has allegedly explained that the youngster is actively looking for a new club after being told his current deal won’t be extended.

Barjonas’ latest loan stint came at Championships side Ayr United after he agreed to a short term temporary move which has now concluded, and that apparently hasn’t done enough to impress club chiefs.

Indeed, the writing has been on the wall for some time, as backed by this report, and it now seems as if Barjonas is heading nowhere but the exit door.

The Verdict: Time to say goodbye…

Described as a player with ‘fantastic abilities’ with a ‘second to none’ passing range by former Gers ace Peter Lovenkrands (Daily Record via ninetyminutesonline), it may be time to wave goodbye to Barjonas.

The only regret Rangers may have is not recuperating a fee following numerous failed moves over this last year, with Football Insider also relaying he was close to joining Barrow last summer.

Ayr boss David Hopkin waxed lyrical over the prospect after his loan debut recently, calling him a ‘big, strong, powerful lad’ whilst tipping him to be a ‘great’ arrival (Rangers News).

However, following the end of his spell, Barjonas is back to square one and looks all but set to leave this summer.
